Name 3 good things about yesterdays game/result. Just a fun way to stay sane & optimistic during this long season ahead.

If anyone has been supporting this club more than 3 years you will know one thing: They can do your head in. Jarring disappointment followed by glimpses of brilliance. The season ahead is long. After Round 24's devastation we had yesterday's disappointment. 21 games remain.

Demons supporter PTSD is a real thing. We suffer anxiety during games, depression after losses, bad dreams and cold sweats (I actually awoke at 2am last night and my first thought was the game).

Given the perennial disappointment we have learned pessimism. To counter this we must learn optimism to get through this season with our heads in tact. It's the only way. The good thing studies have shown is optimism can be learned.

It's so easy to look at yesterday & say "We have probably cost our selves a spot in the 8 again" or "what a disappointment". But you could also equally say "We took a top 4 team to the very last minute of the game & nearly won". The latter is actually far more accurate a statement and a lot easier to live with.

Based on this I suggest we come up with 3 good things about yesterdays game/result. Here's my go:

1. We have the best percentage of all losing teams
2. We took a top 4 side from last year to the brink (& lost to them by less than we did last year) - all a sign of improvement.
3. Mark Neeld is no longer our coach

Your turn.

Cheers

A season isn’t defined by one game

petracca ...Oliver & Gawn were brilliant

still looking forward to watching the continued development of our new brigade

Petracca - emerging superstar

Oliver - his commitment to the contest in the final minutes - he put his body on the line in one contest that he could have squibbed, and no one would have noticed

Ablett's head looks like my left nut (if I shaved it)

Petracca - looks to continue to improve - he could be anything

Hannan - he did nothing for roughly the first 3 quarters but he seemed to keep running and tried to will himself into it in the last and actually did some nice things - is what you want, we've had too many who would just accept it as not their day.

Fritsch - has great attack at the ball, if he can fill out some and get more endurance will be a great pick up.

1. This is Petracca's year

2. Oliver will become even more damaging when it starts kicking more goals more often

3. We still have Brayshaw, Tyson, T Mac, Viney to all come back in.

1. We had ten players who did absolutely nothing, and still gave Geelong a real contest. Some of those, including Lever, Salem & Jetta, could not have played worse if they had tried.

2. We didn't throw in the towel in the second half, and put ourselves in a position to win the game.

3. Simon Goodwin gets another reminder that he is not as smart as he thinks he is, and can not afford to play games at selection.

Max, Oliver and Trac combo.

Bernie steamrolling that puddy tat and putting him on his ass.

OMac’s rapid improvement.

Petracca' class and hunt for the footy

Oliver - as above

The hardness the boys played with in the second half.. Do that all season and we're finals bound easy.

1. Fritsch  was great. He ran hard all game and didnt stop. Great disposal apart from that one kick that was smothered.

2. Tracca and Oliver are our future. Both were outstanding.

3. Gawnys tap work was first class. Gave mids first use of the ball just about all day.

Some good displays of hardness - bumps etc.

Confidence that they were still in the game.

Petracca, Oliver, Gawn, Hogan, Jones

As a side note, Gerard Whateley said that he felt the Melbourne v Geelong game was the highest quality game of the weekend and that if you’d picked those 2 sides as legitimate contenders at the end of the year, you would have left the game convinced. Always good to get an outside perspective.

Best quality game of the weekend.

We play attacking footy which against some teams will lead to very attractive and high scoring games.

We came back.

Midfielders kicked goals.

1. Goodwin can't coach as badly again either on match day or at the selection table.                                                               2. We haven't lost to Brisbane yet.             3. One game off top spot.

We won three quarters (but lost it in the second)!!!!!!

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver are genuine stars of the game.

Fritsch looked like he belongs.

we had many passengers and still should have won ( Melk / Nev / Lever / Jeffy  - all pretty ordinary)

Oliver & Gawn combo may become the best in the comp

didn't panic at half time - made changes to get us back in the game.

Trac/Gawn/Oliver all excellent (minus 'that' moment).

Came back in q3 where historically we have tended to fold, and let the game blow out.

Took a top4 team to the brink, even though we didn't play as well as we could have. Yes, they were sans Danger and Harry, but we were also missing TMac and Jack.

(I was there, it was electric - we'll fine-tune, it's going to be a great year - thanks for the positive post @billyblanks29)

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
