Heading to the G soon and something feels a bit different this year. The weight of expectation should be relished not shied away from. I want the players to feel the pressure, last year we dominated Geelong at Etihad for three quarters but a combination of key injuries and inaccuracy cost us.

No Dangerfield, but an elite midfield trio of Ablett, Selwood, and Duncan is a strong test. Pity Viney isn't there to give Gaz PTSD but the midfield group should be up to the challenge.

Dees by 18pts.

About to head off to the G. The nerves are getting the better of me. I don't have the confidence in the team yet to say we'll win this one but I know that we can. We simply cannot afford to let the cats get out to an early start. Enough of the 5 goal headstarts. We have to play 120 minutes of footy. Go those Demons.

It sort of feel strange to be going to the footy again. Its good to have it back and i just hope it's a better performance than the last time we played.

A win would be perfect and i can't wait to see how hogan goes and see lever live.

3.20 start ESDT? Feels like the clock is going half pace - I’d hate to be a player...

Got a sick feeling of anticipation, I’m veering from faith in the group to full blown MFCSS. Viney out worries me greatly

Geelong have 11 players under 50 games today. Not the end of the world if we lose but we should win imo. There is a reason we are favourites and it's not because Danger is out. End of the day if we want respect from the league we need to dish out a football lesson today. Sick of this club being pushed around by Geelong. Losing today and then beating Brisbane next week does zero for our credentials.

We also have 11 players under 50 games.

Absolutely agree with what you say otherwise.

Doesnt stop my normal certain knowledge at the first game of the season that we will lose

I think we'll win today and I'll be very disappointed if we don't.

As @TickleMeTyson said, we dominated Geelong at Etihad last year. We've now got a year under our belts and don't have Dangerfield to worry about either. Stop Selwood and keep an aging Ablett quiet and we should kick a winning score.

We could be 10 goals up with 5 minutes to go and I'd still be [censored] myself.

40+ years of supporting this club will do that to you.

Nah once we pass the Chris Sullivan line (copyright @Supermercado) I can usually relax ?

You guys must be youngens as im heading for my first round for about the 45th time now and im not feeling anything!  The only apprehension i have is who's turn it is to shout the first pre-match frothy at the Transport bar

I'm leaving shortly but I'm not sure about today, not really convinced this is our best available team.

Anyway, I've seen us lose before when everyone thought we'd win, so it won't come as a shock if we lose again.

Go Dees. A good first up game at home against a decent performer over recent years. Quite a few questions will be answered in the hours to come. Hang in there everyone. :)

Best not mix that with beer

Disagree.

We give all the oldies at the home a beer to wash down their pills. Works a treat.

Heart yearning, stomach churning, and Mrs 'oldfart tells me "it's only a game".  What would she know about such things?  It's nice to be among kindred spirits on here.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
