I started a few decades before you Old Dee but at least I have been there for a few Premierships since the “Fuschias” ran out! ? Like you I am a Dee for life (but hoping to see another Premiership in my lifetime)!

Then you must be in the top tier of age groups CBD.

1960 my dad took me too my first game. So I have seen two flags. I must admit the memory of the first one is faded now. Still remember the second well and the drive home to the country, I thought winning GF,s would never end how wrong was I?

I hope we can last till 2020 mate and then we can both enjoy no. 13.

Aflx is gotta be better than a summer of cricket...

TEAM 1

Back 2 ...... Wagner and Hunt

Mid 3...... Stretch Hogan(capt) and Bugg

Front 2 ..... Spargo and Hannan

Inerchange 3 .....Pedo JKH Harmes

TEAM 2

Reserve 4 ..... Fritsch Keilty Baker Melksham(capt)

I considered Pedo and Baker.

Went with no to Pedo, as I think this format will be run, run, run, and not as suited to a bigger body.

I would expect Baker to get a run though.

Wagner? Sorry, can't bear to watch him play in any format. No lateral agility whatsoever, and seems to lack the footy smarts also.

Just thought Jennings would see it as a learning curve...

Seems a pretty perfect crap fest to be represented by Norf and Saints to be honest.

I'm trying to work out what the AFL will roll out next year.

Last year it was AFLW

This year it is AFLX

Maybe next year is AFLY

I'm sure the AFL marketing department will come out with a slogan something like "don't ask Y, ask Y not"

(this slogan seems to apply to their rule changing department, as well)

That maybe the way they will head small.......AFLzzzzzzzz

A few clubs have confirmed some of their starters according to the AFL site. This was our write-up.

Christian Petracca: His ability to win the football in tight, burst out into space and finish long-range running goals would translate nicely into AFLX.

Definite starters: The Demons have not yet picked their squad ahead of next Friday night, but Petracca, Alex Neal-Bullen, Tom Bugg and James Harmes would benefit from a fast-paced game.

Definite outs: Jeff Garlett, Simon Goodwin, Pat McKenna, Joel Smith, Aaron vandenBerg, Jack Viney, Sam Weideman

Hi folks. Please correct me if I’ve got this wrong because I live in the USA so may not know:
AFLX is played on soccer, rugby and american football grounds largely to make it easier to find grounds to play on overseas, thereby making it easier to promote AFL type football overseas correct?

Why then do the AFL seem to have failed to have the upcoming AFLX games aired through the AFL Global Pass, which I think is the only way to watch AFL live from overseas?

"Diamond_Jim said it was promoted as being shown on the “AFL live App”, which i thought was the same as the global pass, but nowhere on my global pass app are upcoming AFLX games mentioned!?

So to summarize my post, they’re introducing a game aimed toward overseas audiences but they’re not allowing overseas people to watch it.   Can that be right?
Thanks, RM

Port Adelaide squad includes Jacks Watts and Trengove plus Jimmy T and Dom Barry.  New teammates again.  Doubt they’ve ever played in the firsts together before.

I think I said it's on the WatchAFL app which is available to all foreign subscribers. As I understand it that is the "Global Pass"

The WatchAFL website is showing the AFLX as being part of the coverage:

I'm thinking increased speed equals more serious contact, equals more injuries. Sorry,  but not enthusiastic at this stage....

Thanks again D_J, the AFLX option has now appeared in my “Global Pass” App, although it wasn’t showing 12 hours ago when I made my post.  Everything you posted is what I always thought was the status.

Squad to be named soon but this is how I'd go in to it:

Unavailable: Viney, Vanders, J Smith, T Smith, Weeds, McKenna, Garlett, Kent
Rested/clear best 22: Gawn, Jones, Oliver, Tyson, Frost, Oscar, Petracca, Hogan, T McDonald, Lever, Hibberd, Hunt, Salem, Lewis, Vince
Unsuitable: King, Filipovic

Leaves us with: ANB (capt), Stretch (vice), Harmes, Brayshaw, Melksham,  Hannan, Johnstone, Spargo, Baker, Fritsch, JKH, Balic, Bugg, Wagner, Petty, Maynard, Keilty, Pedersen

I'm not as negative on this as others. I think it's a bit of fun to see some of the guys have a hit out and I think we've named the right kind of squad.

I'm keen to see Petracca playing midfield in a shorten version of the game and Tom McDonald up forward. Otherwise I'd like to see the 3 draftees and DJ.

It's a televised competitive training exercise before the shortened preseason of 2 games which is the right number.

Melbourne AFLX squad

  1. Christian Petracca
  2. Angus Brayshaw
  3. Tom McDonald
  4. Neville Jetta

Heaven help us if any of these guys sustain a serious injury... All best 22 and all core players, especially Jetta and Tom. I assume McDonald will play as the ruck?

I'll watch our first match on TV as I have plans later on, and my other half was definitely not keen on a romantic AFLX date for the night.

Squad for those who don't like to read.

AFLX.png

So just FYI for everyone whose worried about whatever

The club focused on using players who will benefit with a low contested/high speed game but also those who need a lighter work load

With the shorter field and shorter game times, it's about 3 or 4 times less of a work load playing this game then doing a full preseason training session (hence the use of 3x 1st year players for example) since those selected will do this in place of 1 days full training

Hope that made sense

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
