Pity is that we have to play them in Round 1.

By half way through the season Ablett won't be there with some sort of excuse, and Selwood played the latter half of last season like he had lead boots.

A good boost of confidence though for the rest of the season if we do win. I have a gut feeling Clarry is going to come out on fire and scoop the three votes v Geelong. I can feel it in my plums.

My god. That would be great.

Assuming he is fit, I think that Milkshake proved himself as a genuine quality tagger, when it was asked of him last season and I think he gets the bulk of the job over Vince, though I would still throw Vince in there to get under Danger's skin at opportune times.  I recon Lewis would be good to have a go at Ablett when called for too, particularly if Lewis plays majority back and Ablett as a majority forward (I don't believe this Chris Scott garbage that he will play midfield).

I really don't see why we should be concerned about this game.  If I remember correctly, we were well with this mob last year, despite loosing Max early and with no Pedo to chop out in the ruck, it was up to a very undersized J Watts to ruck practically all game.  No Hogan either and basically only an underprepared Weid as our one and only key forward target.  We also wasted countless opertunities moving the ball forward and we were still in the game at 3/4 time.  I was more surprised that we lasted until 3/4 time before being overrun, as it's pretty hard win being one man down for majority of the game in today's football.

All being equal and both teams come out with best 22...we win.

I'm confident in our ability as a top 4 team next year...

There's fear on a footy field, unless you're a little abnormal or a liar.

Viney instills fear into the opposition due to his strength and ballistic approach to the footy.

Viney has already hurt Ablett in a round 1 game.  Ablett would be unusual if Viney didn't make him nervous.  Ablett is an old man and when you're old in footy terms you like pain and injury even less.

Dangerfield is the key.  We have a point to prove and will be physically stronger in 2018.  We'll be up to our necks in round 1.  But either way, it's just one game and 4 points.

Injury, as usual, will be key for us in 2018.

So round one we face the most intimidating lineup of midfield A+ graders I've ever seen.

It reads like the mid line of a fantasy football team.

Anyone else worried about getting pantsed here?

Most overrated midfield in the comp.

You will rarely see all 3 start in the middle.

Ablett is a “premadonna” (Probly spelt wrong)

selwood is a genuine gun

danger just needs a good tag/match up.

The thought of Jones agin Ablett is terrifying; both past their best but one of them is coming down from the stratosphere and the other was A- at best and only if character  was counted.

Viney will probably break down by half time,or on play  sore and miss the next 8 weeks. At least Selwood will be off under the blood rule though

.Vince?  Really..?

I played golf this morning with a guy who works in the sports dept at Deakin Uni where the Cats train. He said Ablett is absolutely ripped and raring to go. I shudder to think what that midfield could do to us round one.

If this team is going where most hope it is going I expect us to win this game !

It would always be a measure of level of performance. One would think we would win the season opener.

Yes their midfield is brilliant with the 3 stars and then add Guthrie and Duncan and our midfield looks sick in comparison, however, I don't think they are much everywhere else.

They have lost Lonergan and Mackie down back and that is a huge loss and it forces an older and slower Taylor back to help out. That robs the forward line of their best marking forward and other than Tom, their only other good tall key forward option.

I think we are better than them all over the field other than the mids.

If we can limit their mids somewhat, we should win, injuries aside.

I reckon Hawkins holds the key to this game. He absolutely pansted Oscar and Tom McDonald in Rd 3 to the point where it was embarrassing.

He has absolutely owned us apart from the one game when Dunn held him to just 2 goals in 2015...and surprise surprise that was the only time we've beaten them in 10 years.

Yes i was worried about this too.....then i remembered we have a guy named Lever..

Ablett had never been ripped

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
