Last season we needed to beat both Carlton and Geelong to have a chance to make finals and we all know what happened there.

I hope this season that we  dont fold under the pressure again as we really need to win the last four games to guarantee a finals spot.

These next four weeks will show if we have improved between the ears imo.

Such an improvement this season to this point though which has put us in a much better position.  Last year we were comming from  behind, had to win every game and pretty much reley on others to loose.  Beating Geelong in Geelong was a long shot on the respective capabilities of the teams over the course of the season.

This year we have the runs on the board and if we win the next two weeks I recon we pretty much stich up a finals birth with the job ahead of the teams below us.  Win all four and I seriously think we are a top four chance ahead of GWS.  Where last year, we had to play absolutely out of our skins to match it with the best sides and almost hope they had a bad day,  this season I feel our team is at a point where when we are in form, I expect we will match it with any side in the comp.  All far, fat easier said than done and I do like Goodwins one week at a time approach.

Our form has been ordanary over the past month, yet we have still found a way to keep a few wins ticking over.  Interesting that despite the loose a soldier, replace a soldier cleches from Goodwin at the time, he even suggested on Monday that our dip in form correlated with missing our A team mids.  We do need to find the sort of form we had going during that streak of wins against the Pies, Dogs etc.  Given the recient form of GWS I don't think we will know if we are really back in form should we only just win and or until we have finished off the season with a good record over the next four weeks.

Maynard is huge for a midfielder from that video! Or will he spend some time back in defence as he looks like a defender next to Wagner? 1.90cm. Nice to have another taller-physique midfielder in there with Oliver.

He and Petracca could cause havoc side by side.

Re 2 wins: If The Dogs & Hawks can't get into the 8 and we get 8th below Essendon, then it might work out better to play Port (5th) at Adelaide Oval THAN win 3 games and still end up below Sydney and playing at the SCG. Annoyingly. Edit: Let's just win all 4 and stitch up a home final!

We would beat Sydney at the scg. The small ground plays to our advantages

Yass! Cam Pedersen in. I expect to see the old Pedo Win/Loss ratio updated again come Saturday evening. It's my favourite stat in footy.

Didn't disagree with him being dropped as his form certainly dipped, but like you I'm very glad to see him back.  Often has a good impact in big games.

Mark Stevens saying there's a rumour of hamstring concerns for Patton.

He's been named so I suspect they'll give him to the morning of the game.

Most rumours sorrounding late outs don't come to fruition so I'm planning on him playing.

Just saw on AFL 360, Patton is in doubt.

Haven't checked but is this the first game of the season where our gun mids have all played at the same time?

And by gun mids I mean the magnificent 9 -

Gawn - Jones - Viney - Oliver - Lewis - Salem - Vince - Petracca - Tyson

I'd include Brayshaw in that. Just give him time ...

One day you might be able to add Brayshaw to that for an even 10!

A pity for JFK that he copped the bullet this week.

Thought his 3 week stint (Rd 17-19) this time around was far better than his previous stint (Rd 5-7).

At the end of the day I guess he's not quite good enough.

A Freudian slip there, BPP?

I think there is a grassy knoll at the ground so perhaps it is better not to risk him ?

FCS DT, lets not try and get too clever......just win the next 8 in a row and hoist the flag!!

Confident of this one, and quietly hopeful this will be the start of a roll that gains momentum right up to the end of September.

The time to start believing will be 4:15pm Saturday (AEST).

Looking at weather chart ....similar wind conditions to Hobart? Haven't been to ground so don't know if wind had same effect as in Hobart....

This feels like last week all over again. 30-45km winds and at a ground that GWS have a great record on.

blunstone oval runs north south (like shitehad). anyone know if canberra oval is north/south or east/west?

if east/west the wind won't advantage any end unduly as the wind is mainly from the north but will still make conditions tricky

If Patton doesn't get up to play on Saturday, they are without their top 3 goal scorers in Cameron, Patton and Greene. Lobb, their next best, has scored half as many goals as Greene. It's a very hard decision for GWS... do they risk Patton knowing that if he does a hammy it will directly impact their finals campaign, or do they risk losing the game and potentially a top 4 spot?

What's the difference between 'rested' (Hannan) and 'omitted' (JKH and Trenners)?

Rested means you're a good player. Omitted means you're not.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
