I've maintained for a while that Tmac wasn't such a bad kick per se but has problems with measuring the trajectory of a moving target. Most of his infamous clangers off half-back aren't shanks but look like perfect kicks - as if pin-pointed directly to a lone opposition. Probably why they are so aggravating.

Now he doesnt have to go the punch hes also one of the best marks going around. As a forward he seems to bring the defensive mindset of locking the ball in by chasing players to the boundary line or following up 100% after bringing the ball to ground. He has a great work ethic some forwards never have (yes I played down back in my limited games at UNI level) I'll probably get scorned but I dont want Jesse at FF anymore,,,,,,,CHF yes but not FF.

Tmac there is a revelation.

Im rapt with this win.

I didn't give us much chance with all our injuries and to think all the Blues players I thought would hurt us ( kreuz,  Murphy,  Docherty , Gibbs) had solid games,  and we had a number of underdone and many with little impact, this was a gutsy win.

I should add we got lucky with 2 of their players down before half time,  but it's nice to be in the other end of that stick for a change,  we were due some luck. I doubt we win if Cripps didn't get injured!

Can anyone explain the block free kick with 3.40 to go in the last. Does Stretch have to get out of the way or spoil his own man? Hes entitled to stay on his line. Its a dumb rule or at least to open to mistake.

Just watched the replay again.

Jetta had 4-5 incredible efforts in the last quarter. Frosty was almost as good.

Umpire 22 gave 2 of the softest frees of I've ever seen to keep Carlton in the game.

ANB was very strong in the last quarter.

But the absolute highlight was BT waffling on as ANB lined up saying 'don't work about the clock, just kicked the goal'. ANB passes the ball off BECAUSE of the clock and seals the win. Classic example of out of touch channel 7 rubbish.

Umpire 22 was a disgrace. The free in the 1st qtr against ANB 100m away from the action should see him thrown out but the rest of the game degenerated and he was the most biased umpire I have ever seen. Even more than that goose Nicholls.

Tackling was generally poor today.

Carlton's switch. The did this relentlessley and it took us way too long to stop.

Talk. Multiple occasions where our players didn't talk to each other and ended up spoiling each other

Carlton's faux toughness. It was clear they wanted to niggle us knowing that we were unlikely to retaliate. Their treatment of Lewis was pathetic. Clarry stood up for him all day. The umps ignored it. Disgraceful. Our mids were hung onto all day.

Kent. Really poor game. Constantly misses ground balls makes ineffective tackles and is a poor kick. I am done with him.

Carlton's fans. What a pathetic bunch of whingers they are.

Likes

Jetta. Aside from the mentions already on here he did one spoil on Casboult that saved a goal. Levi is very difficulyt to stop but Nev did it.

ANB played a good game and has a great tank.

Oliver. What a gun.

The smarts and great individual efforts in the last quarter.

TMac. Has reinvented himself. Tremendous credit to him.

BT, pffft!!!!

Every time he has commentated one of our games he's always had a something to say about one of ours having a shot at goal whilst looking at the clock.

Not only was the pass by ANB a highlight,  Jason Bennett quickly cutting off BT by praising the smarts of that play was brilliant!!

Like it when commentators call it as they see it.

That's a gutsy win ... the team should be rightfully proud of themselves.  We just refused to lose.

Hunt & Frost continue to impress ... the run & carry from both lads is invaluable.  T-Mac going forward has been a revelation whilst ANB & Oscar were good today.  Hannan, Harmes & Wagner was good at times.

Petracca stepped it up and played a decisive role at the stoppages.  Oliver is just a freak and Hibberd continues to stand out.  Gawn is working his way back to his best form.

7 games to go and if 4 of those games are wins we are virtually assured of a finals berth.  Perhaps even 3 of 7 will suffice.

We need to find a way to win at least 1 of the next 2 but even with the guts of our midfield out along with Watts, this team has a thirst for wins and is playing with real confidence.  We've played a relentless style all season regardless of the make up of the team.

Carlton had about 20 possessions in the first couple of minutes and they were all little chip kicks that were largely ineffectual, their stats were inflated by the number of back and forth kicks and marks all night.

We won, that's all that count, I couldn't care one way or another if some of their players had 35 possessions, they played keeping off and that's not how you win a match. Let's not forget they would have started favourite tonight with anyone that had a brain and we beat them.

Jeffy had 7 possessions and kicked 3 goals, that's far more important than someone getting 4 possessions in 30 seconds and not advancing the ball more than a few metres.

Great win by the boys tonight and yes we made some mistakes, but you do if you take the game on, Vince and Lewis turned the ball over, but I'm happy to have them in the side and when we get our core players back they will probably turn the ball over a lot less.

BTW I really hate it when posters say a player was putrid, that is a comment that is way out of line. We had a lot of rusty players and players playing out of position tonight and when they're not they will do better.

When ANB passed the ball off to Jordan Lewis to run out the clock, that was the exact moment I knew we had arrived as a team.  That was some real maturity from ANB, and so smart from Lewis. Both of them deserve a massive pat on the back.

In fact, I got shivers down my spine as it unfolded.  A year ago, ANB would have had a shot , missed, and Carlton would have run it down for a goal.

I don't know whose idea it was but that sideways kick to Lewis at the end was pure genious.  A shot at goal and a miss gives them the chance to run down the other end and kick a goal.  Instead Lewis could take another 30 seconds off the clock.

why do people continuously call players genius' for displays of common sense?

oh, mason wood looks at the clock and runs it down before kicking. what a genius!

leigh montagna waiting for opponents to come to him before kicking a goal from the square to waste time..what a genius.

it's common sense! it's like people have never played competitive sport before.

might i add, whats stopping a player from starting his goal kicking run up at 30 seconds from 50m from the mark and simply walking in at snails pace wiping another significant chunk of time off.

sometimes i feel like i'm the only genius around!

I don't really like admiring the opposition, but Casbolt was pretty bloody awsome for three quarters today and that SOS Jnr looks like a splitting image of his old man cosmeticly and in terms of ability (unfortunately).

Curnow as well.  He will be a good player for them.  Strong pack mark.  But they can't afford to lose casboult at the end of the year.

I often wonder if behind closed doors the club would be asking questions of umpiring like that.

Without the help of the umpires it would not have been that close

You might be onto something there.  Wondring if Calscum would be trying to enact the Father/Mother-Daughter rule for the woman's league?

Already done, and by Carlton too. Anew McKay's daughter I believe

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
