I'd forgotten about Hunts disallowed goal after all that. It was just a sublime effort to get to the spot where he kicked....I guess he maybe ran 1 step too far, but gee it wasn't much. If we had of lost it would have been a much spoken about topic..

Only 21 as well, he's never gonna be a game breaker but he's developing into a handy reliable player.

Was probably the right call, but jeez that was a disappointing moment.  Was great to see him really using the jets in the last quarter though.  Such an exciting player.

There's been a few of those "we were [censored], they were worse" games in the last few years, but I don't rank this as one of them myself.  

Agreed, I think it was a case of Carlton Vs MFC B Side, in some ways, but it was  generally a good standard game.  They played well today, I don't think we played our best, but we obviously played well enough to walk away with the 4 points on the day, which was a fair achievement from tines gone by, so I do rate this win.

I don't really like admiring the opposition, but Casbolt was pretty bloody awsome for three quarters today and that SOS Jnr looks like a splitting image of his old man cosmeticly and in terms of ability (unfortunately).

Many were calling for Lewis to stand up before today.  While I think he's proved his worth a few times before now, I think he well and truly did his job today.  Perhaps it's because it's because he's from Hawthorn that MFC supporters don't like him (to which I can empathise) but he is well and truly one of ours now, was one of our best players today and I'm very glad Lewey was singing "It's a Grand Old Flag" tonight, because without him I don't think we would have.

I agree, Balls. Just watched the game now and sure, he made a few shockers, but his inside work was pretty good I thought. Most of all, he took the knock; bore the brunt of Carlton's aggro all day long. 

Vince was poor, but I loved his 'throw something at ya' move while manning the mark with a Carlton fella (?) lining up for goal in the 2nd and kicked it out on the full! Seemed instrumental in the dying minutes though. 

Great grinding win given the circumstances and sets us up beautifully for a solid run to the finals.

I think it was a good move playing him further up the ground, got him more involved in the play even if he wasn't particularly great. Make him a true CHF for a while, play Pedders as a second forward and then when it looks like he's got his mojo back swap them around. 

As talented as he is,  the modern game is very hard to get back into full swing after more than 6 games out. The old days of  people Tony Lockett coming in after 6 games out and kicking a bag have long gone. Gawn is still struggling after 3 seniors games. Poor Jesse couldn't even tap to a player (on the boundary line) in the last qrt. Jesse will do better but it may take him a couple more.

Agreed about him at CHF.... good call as Jesse is very much a confidence player. I get the feeling he gets down on himself when not involved in a game so a spell on the ball does him good.Its water under the bridge and we are better off in playing him as next week he will improve. Moving forward we are at the right end of the season for him to hit some form. Poor blokes been out more than in, this year. I'm worried about Jones and Viney being out of shape towards the business end of the season but we are top four and Im stoked.

That situation was made even worse by the fact that Lewis ducked when tackled.

But, he turns the ball over FAR too often, and is below par when defending an opponent side by side. he has played much better games than today.

Salem cant come back quick enough for me.

Agree on Salem and let's also agree that we both watched a different game.

These are the players that had less turnovers than Wagner today.

Pedersen- 10 disposals, 0 turnovers.

Harmes - 19 disposals, 1 turnover .

Hogan- 10 disposals, 1 turnover.

Garlett - 7 disposals, 1 turnover.

Gawn- 8 disposals, 1 turnover.

Wagner- 18 disposals at 78% efficiency.

 Turnovers - 2. That's hardly FAR too often.

I've maintained for a while that Tmac wasn't such a bad kick per se but has problems with measuring the trajectory of a moving target. Most of his infamous clangers off half-back aren't shanks but look like perfect kicks - as if pin-pointed directly to a lone opposition. Probably why they are so aggravating.

And it's never been just the obvious clangers that I've found infuriating, but his constant putting the ball into space in the vague vicinity of a player on the switch. The few seconds to collect the loose ball can make a massive difference (Melksham did the same today, which led to the failed effort from Jetta to take on the tackler in the middle).

But the goal-posts don't move. And middling in their vicinity works a treat.

Without the absence of Jesse, we would never have had to move Tommy forward, and would be tossing up between him, his bro and Frost.  The move has allowed all three to blossom  

Perhaps a blessing in (very deep) disguise. 

Seemed to work in well with Jesse this week ie making space for each other and making defenders separate.    Haven't seen that with 2 big forwards for a long time - they usually get in each other's way.

Stretch as well could benefit from the VFL time, he's been up and down this year playing some very good games but some very poor ones. This was certainly seems to fall into the latter.

Between white clouds from inhaling my cheroot I watched a game of footy on the telly here in my rainforest today. It was an epic battle with Melbourne wounded from previous weeks and Carlton down two at half time but this .... yes this was a game of real footy. At one point in the last quarter the ball was on the ground on the wing and six blokes were too stuffed to bend over and pick it up. I love tough footy. I love ugly contested footy. You know I think I'm loving these new dees. By my cheroot they're as tough as teddy whitten and the Ronald dale and the jimmy Stynes. I cant get enough of them. And that Jordan Lewis and Bernie vince my sweet smoke don't they make all those young fellas walk tall. Sure they make some mistakes but because they take chances and tutor these impressionable like Oliver petracca hannan anb.  Not to mention the bloke the silk the Neville. For those who want to drop smith and Kent and stretch understand that playing one week with Bernie and Jordie and nev is worth thirty games for Casey. Let's beat the crows ugly..after the siren.. and no changes Tyson watts et al can earn their re entry through Casey... and only if Casey win... and leave Wagner to learn from Bernie and Jordie...

Wagner did nothing more than was obvious from his first pre-season game. Those that don't rate him were blind then and are blind now! Bernie Vince does a dozen important team things for every turnover. He is a creator, and creators sometimes expect too much, but to question his worth to this young team borders on footy ignorance.
