I mooted that Lewis might be rested well not after today well done.

And Lewis said on SEN he has only played 7 games this year after his enforced layoff so he said he is on that plane!

Gawn for Watts for me. Injured or not he needs a break and will benefit for it. Pedo can play Watts role next week

Are you suggesting he gets rested? It's football, they are there to play every week

Goody said Jones and Watts were kept off in the last as a precaution.  What a luxury to be 50 points up!  Would suggest these two are in if they pull up.

If Gawn is in, I have no idea who goes out.  TMac goes back onto Kennedy, OMac on Captain Darling.

Watts is so valuable.  Really want him to come up.

Great to have real pressure on selection.

Isn't it funny - 2 weeks ago everyone was pushing for OMac to be the 1st dropped with Bugg hot on his heels, but both have had very good week. OMac is in a lot of peoples votes tonight (including quite a few who have him as BOG). Also interesting was that I thought TMac had his best game since he's been pulled out of the backline.

Personally I think it'll be an unlucky injured player (Jones at worst). Watts in an interview with Fox straight after the game said he was only off as a precaution, so I doubt it'll be him.

If Jones is OK then it'll either be ANB who played better today, but still had some of the worst disposal for the team, or else Melksham if the selectors didn't like his shutdown role on JJ (but I don't see that happening). Whoever is out will have to consider themselves unlucky, but then again having players good enough that don't play is a sign of a good team.

Summary:

In: Gawn

Out: ANB

Might be a bit controversial but Vince is just going. Could he be the one to make way?

Yep it isn't going to happen but Bernie has been in the bottom few for me over the last bit. Maybe still suffering from his dodgy toe but a long, long way from his B n F form

Posted (edited)

While I don't think ANB did a whole lot wrong, it wouldn't surprise me if he made way. Doesn't seem to be all that damaging to me. Not saying I desperately want to see him dropped but he'd be a name I'd throw up as a possibility.

Vince I agree with a few others, he's not doing a lot for me. His kicking is letting him down (is his toe still giving him problems?) and appears to be a bit fumbly at the moment. Again I wouldn't say I'm desperate for him to be dropped and he's still one of our best taggers so perhaps give him a role on a WC mid next week. Otherwise I'd be thinking about bringing Trenners in for him.

Can anyone tell me how Spencer went this week? Did he put his hand up for selection?

I feel in the wide expanses of Subiaco a ruckman is quite important, there are question marks over bringing Gawn straight in for a trip to Perth and a 6 day break.

If someone gets dropped this week they are very unlucky and should be given a pat on the back.

Goodwin doesn't think so as he's said Gawn will play next weekend.

I agree with the last line as well - whoever makes way is going to be very, very unlucky.  I'm glad it's not my job to make that decision.

Out . Watts Jones

In . Gawn Stretch

Gawn comes in...but no necessity to play all game in ruck. He can play some time rotating through the tapwork with stints up front.

Stretch is more a top up in the middle than JKH at this level.

They're my thoughts.

Trengove is done!

Lets place some serious footy nous here! No room for sentiment when  place in the 8 is now a real posibility!

Melksham actually played ok up forward today.

Taking Maxy across on a plane for a 3hr flight and back on a bigger ground makes me nervous. Id be happy to keep him for the swans game, but I guess if he is ready then I trust the medical and coaching staff.

I hope JOnsey and Watts are ok.

Thought he was faultless today-he did his time at Casey last year-why should he step aside. He's ready.

Interesting; I am a fan but thought he had some really poor moments today.  inaccurate kicking on goal, poor disposal and decision making for the first three quarters.  Did some good things in the last.

Assuming no injuries perhaps Vince goes out, has points in the bank but on form over this season he should surely be out before bugg, anb or any others

Maybe Vince will be out with "soreness".

Melksham or ANB for mine. I'd also like to know when Joel Smith is returning. Seems forgotten...

Joel will surely need a few weeks at Casey - no way he will be rushed in, and for whom, where?

Geez.....surely they can afford a business upgrade for Max??

Jones and watts will both play, just taking no risks

If there is any hint of a hammy tear, and he'll be scanned, he won't play for 3 weeks. Sounds harsh, but is non-negotiable these days, and for reasons of reducing recurrence and chronic behaviour. Jones quad another story. If it settles and he gets through training, he'll play.

Well yeah thats what I thought. Stick him in the exit row or put him up the front. Let him stretch out.

I didn't hear that, that's fantastic news! I think the selection committee is going to need a lot of Panadol to sort out the headaches at selection!

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
