Did Harmes have anyone on? I can forgive his a little more, at least he had a genuine chance to score, he may not have known how long was left (30 secs?) so may have been worried the siren would go, he had the crowd willing him on and the forward line was crowded so difficult to pick out a teammate.

Vince's torp was unacceptable

Harmes had Jetta to his right all alone. To be fair was 30m to his right. Not in immediate vision.

For what it's worth I thought Petracca was outstanding in the last quarter when the game needed to be won.

He's going to be an absolute gun. Playing half forward for us isn't easy, but it's even harder with C grade talls around you who don't demand the ball.

Last week i was gutted but loved the effort.

This week i'm absolutely filthy by the contempt our coaches and player's showed for an entire quarter. Should not have even been in the position we were in at 3/4 time. 8 goals in a row ffs, with absolutely no changes in tactics or effort on the field.

Not happy

Sums up my feelings too.

We had American friends with us at their first ever afl game, they were perplexed after the 3rd quarter, - why did the Dees stop their intensity?

Hope the the players fell this loss badly.

And had nothing to do with those out, the team today let themselves lose.

unimpressed.

Our current forward line is unsustainable if we are going to play Watts in the ruck, he is needed in the forward line for his creativity and ability to both kick goals and bring others in to the game. I like Weid a lot but I have to confess, after today, he's got to go back to Casey and develop his game.

I understand that Pedo is out of fashion but he is needed to give Spence the chop out and allow Watts to do what he does best and that's not losing ruck contests in the middle against inferior players. Do we want to win games or risk losing them for the sake of an experiment?

We can't keep the ball in the forward line at the moment and our backline can't stop the opposition from scoring easy goals. Something has to change and soon.

Just watched the last 2 mins again of the last qtr. Noticed these mistakes. Feel free to add:

1. Vince's dinky kick which missed the target.

2. Weideman's fresh air kick on the wing

3. Frost's punch although had good intentions

4. McDonald's terrible high kick at CHB (after the deliberate call) to harmes (had Watts in the corridor albeit one on one)

5. Bernie's stupid torp which looked like something you'd see in the amateur's

6. Harmes hail Mary kick on goal with players free to his right.

I know I'm probably missing some...

Stop getting emotional

Is he playing well enough, based on his obvious talent and ability?

The burden of proof is on you, jumbo.  You're the one who thinks he needs a spell at Casey, so tell us why it should be so.

Just a couple of quick thaughts.

Our loss today was no where near as bad as last week.

We have a few passengers in the side that cost us badly. The weed, Melksham, Hannan and at the moment Tyson.

Petracca was great today, thankgod Jesse is back next week. Weideman is going backwards. Unnnnnngghhh

Weid is doing exactly what you'd expect a 19 year old KPF to do.

He should never have been in the team and is 18 months away (if not more) from impacting at AFL level.

The point is we didn't win either game, would almost certainly have won today and arguably last week with them. I'm talking what happened, not what should have happened.

I'm a believer in having ball winners in your team. Vince got it regularly and made a couple of errors. Melksham and Jetta didn't get it. I reckon that really hurts, more than Vince's errors.

No, you're talking what "would" (in your opinion) have happened if Hogan/Lewis had played.

From what happened in both games, we played well enough for long enough to win both.

We didn't, but just as I can't say we would definitely have lost both with them, you can't say we would definitely have won both with them.

And as for Vince, we are long past the stage where we should be happy with people who win the ball without more. Measuring output based solely on possessions, especially when you're comparing Vince and Jetta, is nonsense. And I'll say it again, Vince is a senior player and doesn't deserve the same leniency with mistakes that we (rightly) afford the kids.

Does anyone have the age and games comparison for today?

Average age: Melbourne 24y 0m, Fremantle 24y 11m.

Average games: Melbourne 72.2, Fremantle 85.3.

True, wise....I just want the kid to really kill it...really arrive..

Me too, jumbo.  I feel as though he shows flashes of his ability during games - the one grab marks, the side steps, his ability to twist out of a pack and kick a goal.  We just need that consistency from him.  A spell at Casey isn't required though.  He is playing well enough to be a part of our best 22.

WTF?  Honestly, WTF?

the number of times he was set near-impossible marking tasks on the members wing- and clunked them- was so important.  The snap for goal...

Weiderman has no ability to pressure or do second acts.

Frost did a lot of good things

Viney was putrid all day, luckily kicked the last quarter goal ( no excuse for missing the other.

jake did well in the ruck, and his marks and goals were valuable.

At the start of the third they were flat footed and 'contest watching'.  Only took 7 fricken goals for them to snap out of it.

annoyed, mainly because we gave this one away.  Ins and outs for the tigers will be interesting.

Hannah was good early but dropped out later in the game, he does some really good stuff but not enough of it at the moment.

Milkshake simply isn't good enough under pressure.

Weid needs to put on some weight and needs time in the two's.

Tyson has got to spend some time with the kicking coach, his disposal is getting worse.

Most importantly, the leadership group need to stand up and stop the capitulation we seem to face in at least one quarter a week.

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
