Mahoney confirmed that key forward would not play again this week and explained why.

“We think there has been some predictable, but unfair media speculation about Jack Watts’ non-selection. To clarify, the team is being selected on some key criteria, during the pre-season,” he said.

“Jack knows exactly what needs to be worked on and his past two or three weeks, he’s been working hard on what he needs to improve on in certain areas.

“He still remains a key player for us this season.”

Don't like it! this playing mind games Bulltish can end up going horribly wrong and lose a player like Watts momentum and confidence!

Don't like this at all!!!! Rubbish non selection

Out: Wagner, Garlett
In: Hibberd, Johnstone, Garland, Trengove

Hibberd in for Wagner. Will be interesting to see if they go with the same emergencies this week or if they give someone else a run. I'd certainly like to see Trenners and DJ get a run, maybe for Harmes and ANB.

Edit: DJ will play as per MFC website.

Leave out VDB forTrengove. VDB was woeful last weekend.

All this watts hype is quite amusing...

A couple of points

At this stage it's  assumed watts is upset about this

Rewarding players on good performance not reputation is a positive

It's a long season there is no way jw dosent play this season

We know what we'll get from jw there's no harm in playing youth. My opinion from this squad there are a lot of spots still up for grabd for rd 1 and plenty of time to get practice in beforehand

Good to see them stick with a strong line up, and like others I'd like to see Trengove and Johnstone also get a run at the expense of a few fringe players.

Hoping we can get another win on the board.

I'm confident Jeffy will play round 1 but we've shown in the past that we don't take in players underdone

Take Brayshaw for example last year

Just Wags and Jeffy for Hibbs and DJ?

Surprised there isnt more rotating, would have liked any of Watts (apparently still with issues?), Pedersen,  hulett,  T Smith, Keilty and frost to come in for a run. The fact Frost again hasnt been selected makes me think there are more than considering elevating J Smith to play in the backline come round 1...

Although does this now leave us with all 3 of Kent, BenKen and Jeffy on or just returning from the injury list not the greatest leadup for our smalls... DJ might even have a chance at a surprise early selection.

Sounds like Frost may have a small niggle (not sure what), but the AFL article the other day said at training he was just doing boxing on the sidelines with Jeffy, who's now out. We've still got a spot on the main list to fill, so wouldn't be surprised to see J Smith upgraded regardless of Frost's availability, particually now with Wag's injury.

How can anyone say this without knowing what he has not shown or done?

Trengove should be given a game ahead of Harmes or ANB based on last weeks performance.

Anyone wonder whether the Pederson situation is the same as Watts?

Just Goodwin finishing of Roos's mission to erase every last vestige of the Neeld era (besides our captains and mature rucks).

Watts, Pedo, Trenners, Garland, Kent, Jetta all missing from the first JLT? Coincidence or #psychologicalscars?

Harmes was no good last week but ANB was ok. ANB always seems to kick a goal when ever he plays which is a good sign.

I don't have either in my best 22 for round one.

Looks like minimal changes for this game which surprises me as I would have thought we would use this series of games to have a good look at as many of the players as possible.

OK by a fringe player fortunately should not be enough to get you a game anymore.

Goodwin has said all along he would be fielding strong teams. He needs to get the group playing together as much as possible, particularly Hibberd, Melsham and Lewis. I expect this to continue and for players only to miss through fitness (Hibberd, Tyson, Kent, Frost), discipline (Watts), form or resting. I could only see the old codgers (Jones, Vince and/or Lewis) being rested plus possibly Hogan. If he was experimenting/trialling I'd expect to see Smith, Hulett and Keilty out there (for eg.)

Watts (disciplined), Pedo, Kent and Jetta (all coming off injuries), Trennners (probably play this week), Garland (pretty much expected to be depth only with the current backline).

I'd say that the psychological scarring excuse is well past its use by date.

Everyone seems a tad sensitive this week for some reason.

A reasoned response is considered as being "a tad sensitive"? Physician heal thyself.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
