The reverse is true also.  Others of us that have been posting here for 15 years are not surprised at all that you jumped on this rumour the minute it came to light.  We all have our biases, you're no different.

Why wouldn't I share it ?

I'd just heard it on radio and it validated a recent report from a fellow poster.

I also realise that not all posters live locally and would be likely to hear the discussion.  Listening online wouldn't be everyone's bag.

It's unusual to be criticised for sharing information.

I also don't believe it will effect his chances of being selected in round one.  It's a message I suspect he's heard loud and clearly from a young coach who's universally loved by the playing group, but able to show he's hard when he needs to be.

For me it seems dense to think this whole story has been concocted.  But I don't wear a tinfoil hat.

Unlike trade rumours these types that go to air by a sports show invariably have reasonable elements of truth to them.

But as I've previously stated, if posters don't want to believe their darling has come back from the preseason in anything less than A-one condition they can.

Having posted hear for 15 years it's fair to say I have a healthy disregard for the views of most.

I don't think it's so much that I don't want to believe, more that I want to wait for more facts before I judge.  We can be too quick around these parts to hear a rumour and get stuck into a player without waiting for all the facts.  All we have is a rumour from one poster and Mitch Cleary saying he is 'hearing things' at AAMI park.  It's not exactly a lot to go on.

And if Watts has a 20 disposal first up game against the Saints, regularly hitting forwards on the chest whilst slotting a couple of goals himself I look forward that poster declaring he was, perhaps, mistaken.

Maybe Jack should stop partying up in board shorts and worry about backing up his 1 good season in 8 years. Signed a new contract last year too didn't he? Clearly got to comfortable with himself in the off season.

So can we clarify please.

A commercial radio reporter says an unnamed source in the club said that JW came back NQR.

Any word from those who have been able to get to training please.

From what I remember reading there were no "issues", other than a crappy hairstyle.

Please explain.

Was that a call in or confirmed from the club?  Again, not willing to judge if it's still just a rumour that's floating around.

The club website mentions that Watts, Hibberd and Jetta are all likely to be available for selection this week.

Call me naive but until the club confirms it I'm still of the belief it's a rumour.

Yeah agree Wiseman! Look, I saw him training twice over summer and he looked in excellent shape and in fine form!

All Chinese Whispers just to stir up sheeeit!

Maybe a small niggle or so! Nothing more

Move on!

I think I said this in another thread but anyway. I went to quite a few trainings pre xmas. Not may after. He's looked the good skill wise and they haven't done much pure fitness work so it's hard to tell where he's at that way. He was quite in the intraclub but not the only one and it was a short hit out.

Physically he looks pretty much the same. He's certainly not the strongest built nor the leanest.

I had my own suspicions on the hair dye job at the time but it's really not useful to add more speculation to a thread full of it.

Goodwin hates nothing more then Jason Akermanis and 90's boy bands.  When Watts rocked up to training with that hair do, Goody saw red.  Suspended until it grows out, the problem for Watts is, Goody hates frosted tips even more, he's in for a tough few months our Jackie boy.

The tabloid journo (a.k.a. "newsbreaker") tries to give the impression that the words are from Goody, although he doesn't say that straight out.

From the article:

Melbourne Demon Jack Watts position for Round 1 is in doubt says Mitch Cleary.

The Sportsday newsbreaker said coach Simon Goodwin has laid down the law at AAMI Park.

"He's returned to pre-season in poor shape, poor attitude is what I'm hearing down at AAMI Park" he said.

"He didn't play at Whitten Oval against the Bulldogs, it wasn't an injury concern, it wasn't a resting, he was simply not picked" he said

He says that Goody "has laid down the law" and then follows with the quotes - from "he said". It's meant to look like the quotes are from Goody (or at least from inside the club), but it's actually just quoting Mitch Cleary himself.

And where does this crack "news breaker" think Goody has laid down the law? AAMI Park!!!

For the original poster of the rumour, I take back all my cynicism.

It was a brilliant bait to lay for the first eager young space cadet to report it as news and think they're making a name for themselves.

And just think about it for a second - if the rumour was true, who is going to leak it? Since the coming of PJ and Roos, this club just doesn't leak. Remember??

Frankly I don't know whether it's true or not. But just analysing it for a couple of minutes, it doesn't sound right. Despite it confirming a lot of prejudices.

It would only be validation if it was confirmed by a different source. If it's just someone running with something they read here, that's not validation, it's repetition.

To be continued ...

I'm not rushing to any judgement, Jack has long been known as a player who works his butt off on and off the track, it sounds very strange that he would ruin it all after his best season so far.

We have also had regular training reports on here and none have suggested he hasn't met the standards. The only thing I will say is that there has been no response from either Jack or the club. Perhaps preferring not to give any oxygen to a fabricated story.

If Jack plays next week, dominates and is in good nick then I encourage all Dees fans to tweet Cleary for an apology.

I don't know what's happening with Watt's but I am familiar with the post generous contract blues too many of our players suffer from.  I just hope he builds on last season stellar form but if he backslides I won't be surprised.

Apparently, a sports journo would spread a rumour from a poster on a fan forum and pretend it's his own.  People actually believe this is more likely than him having a source connected to the club.

Apparently, training reports from boundary supporters are a legitimate source  of whether this report is true or not.

Apparently, if Watts plays well on Sunday, or in round one, there can't be any validity to this story, because the subsequent weeks/months wouldn't be enough for him to get his fitness to an acceptable level.

No wonder the Greens get votes.

Fair enough to share the info pd. But I understand nasher's cynicism given instead of simply sharing the info in the same thread as the original rumour you chos to start a brand new one. And I can't remember the last thread you started.

Still, can't blame you. If you start a thread, you want people to engage in it (hello Bobby Clark) and nothing drives engagement on DL more than one having a shot at wattsy.

Anyway I hope the rumour is untrue. I do agree however that rumours about poor attitude have more credence than trade one given managers fuel the latter and there is no incentive to fuel the former (except malice perhaps)

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
