You'd almost think his departure would improve that abhorrent excuse for "entertainment," but all I needed to read was Hutchy to realise this is a break-even outcome.

Must have been caught reading a book to get turfed out of the team.

I am curious to know what he has done apart from being his usual obnoxious self.

Not a great Footy Show fan, but when I do watch it, I thought Rebecca Maddern and Brayshaw were ok together.

But to replace him with Hutchison!?!? A surly, sefl-inflated grand stander who likes to take a contrary position on most subjects to make him look intelligent (which never works) and who does not let co-hosts finish their sentences because he has another pearl of wisdom to share  or another contrary statement to make. The worst footy person on TV, and that is a huge statement considering some of the gits who get given air time.

Nothing of substance holding the Footy Show together now. The bell is now tolling...

At this point they should just bring back Ed and Trevor Marmalade for a farewell season and then just salvage the whole set (and/or its hosts) for glue.

Astute move by Brayshaw. Couldn't leave with Lyon. Newman can't keep going. Best time possible to price yourself out and get another position while your profile is highest.

Could not agree more - after the first couple of years, the show seemed to pride itself on being boorish, mundane and dull.

To now recruit a balding sock puppet like Hutchison surely suggests the end is nigh.

Intelligence and the Footy Show are oxymoronic.

Listeners to his Sounding Board podcast will know the real Hutchy does appear to be a understandingly flawed person, a loyal friend, a cunning and eager businessman and a savvy media mind. The footy classified Hutchy is largely an act and he suffered this year from no Garry Lyon and Lloyd battling along in the 4th chair.

He could do well on the footy show. Bec Maddern has proven herself to be a pretty decent host.

The issue with the show is that it's Sam Newman's show. Everything revolves around him. And he hasn't changed his act in 20 years and it's more than worn thin with most of the viewers. Given that he's the centre of the show, the show also has struggled to adapt to the change in AFL media circumstances and technology.

There's no need to watch the footy show for the teams anymore. There's little need to watch it for news or opinion on footy stories besides the occasional interesting Damo news break.

If I were in charge I'd probably just carry on with Sam as the show whilst enough idiots watched it but it must be getting close to having to really reinvent itself and not just shuffle hosts in around Sam.

I agree. Good move by Brayshaw. Once Sam moves on that show is gone gone.

This is the reason I rarely watch it. They focus on side issues, silliness and Sam's personality quirks. It is the Footy Personality Show and has very little to say or offer about the actual games played or the games coming.

When "The Footy Show" started the idea was based on the old "World of Sport", mixing football with larger than life personalities like Dyer, Davis and Richards among others.

Light on football & personalities it has fallen way short of that goal.

Hutchy. The classic hands-it-out-but-can't-take-it rissole who is quick to pounce when he sees a weakness, and clings to it like a dog to a bone, but when the tables are turned, somehow the conversation is immediately steered to something else.

Are channel 9 so bereft of ideas and talent that Hutchy seemed like the best choice available? (He asks, knowing the answer before he even types the question.)

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
