Wow, you go off the Internet for an hour... But absolutely brilliant news!

It might be an obvious statement to make, but I'll be the first to predict that Jesse is going to have an absolute belter of a 2017 season. Getting this contract done before the start of next year will surely remove a lot of stress from Jesse's mind.

For those who missed his interview on trade radio (myself included), Josh Mahoney will be on SEN at 10:25

I went and had a shower once, and when I came back, Paul Roos was our coach.

Mahoney on SEN this morning, (paraphrasing):

  • Club confident Jesse would want to stay, despite recent speculation
  • No ultimatum ever put to Jesse
  • Think Hogan and Weideman can be a lynch pin for us for years to come
  • Hogan, in his exit interview, was very disappointed with his last 5 weeks and keen to have a big 2017

Good to see all the rubbish written about an 'ultimatum' put to bed!

Oh no My prediction was wrong.

I am slipping that is the second time I have been wrong in the last 20 years.

Must be the ageing process.

So at least OD's guts didn't have to hold out till May. Happy Days all round!

Club has managed this superbly. For this to not get out, given the level of speculation, is remarkable.

I've had a lot of mail about Hogan in the last month. but it was wildly conflicting and not worth sharing, other than the 5 years or eff off now yarn. Even that I only posted because the source was impeccable.

Clearly he signed for less time than what was on the table. But signs of a rock solid club not sweating under the spotlight.

One of the very few posters with insider info that I trust.

Keep posting C.I.P

This management team we have is quite something now, isn't it?

Compare this to how theseThings were handled in a previous administration and it is like day and night.

Ever day I get more impressed with the way our club is now being run.

I'll just add

  • Mahoney said we traded future draft picks last season because we wanted Weideman
  • Don't expect us to be active this trade period (Had previously mentioned helping Dunn get a trade and obtaining Hibberd)

I'm not sure if I'm more pleased because he has signed or because  those endless depressing speculative threads should now end.  Just kidding....

Yea totally agree. So much of this is about "kultcha". Says a lot that he wanted to stay despite the lure of home. We're really going to be reflecting on Paul Roos' legacy a lot in the future. Let that reflection start with signings like this

Heard someone on SEN yesterday say they had spoken to Hogan's old man and there was no family "pull factor". They're very happy with Melbourne.

So he has signed a two yr extension on his current contract which will take him up to 2019 with his current term included.

So that gives us one season not to talk about his next contract extension!

Thats gunna be fun when it all starts again!

in all seriousness congrats to Jesse and the MFC.

2 year deal is perfect for both parties. It gives the dees a chance to open up our premiership window, then gives Jesse the choice of money v success in 2 years time. We don't overpay Jesse in the meantime, and Jesse gets to see if the club can deliver a chance to play finals footy before making his next decision.

Great news!!!

2019 - just right!

Either we're primed for a flag - in which case he'll stay ....... or we're not in contention - in which case we'll need to push the reset button ..... by going forward without him.

Just about got all the bases covered - unless of course we've won it already!

No more dreaming Dees - just get out there - and do it!!

I am happy to hear he has signed and committed. While I am not as confident in Hogan becoming a superstar as others on Demonland, he is still a very good player and could potentially end up being a great one. This needed to happen prior to trade week IMO given his trade value and contract size, so it is a bit of a relief it is all over.

Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club, Jesse Hogan. Despite all the gushing from many a fellow Demonlander , and that's their prerogative, this for mine is the first real sign he has and will be a Melbourne player let alone a possibly great Melbourne player. This is my opinion granted but up til he signed he had not bought in. Now he has, it would seem and thats a Good win for the Dees.

As I suspected, something had to give before friday. It has and it a very hearty sign for things to come

go you good club.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
