Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Your right I actually think Salem will get away with the perceived lack of speed because he's got really good footy smarts - similar to Mitchell of Hawthorn - in that he reads the play so well he'll put himself in the right spots so will seem to have more space than his speed allows. Back on topic, Kelly is one GWS won't part with, so it'd be great to get the school mates together but I can't see it unless we finish bottom 4 and he requests a trade next year.

I don't thing Salem has a lack of speed, he isn't lighting quick but I don't think he is slow.  One of those blokes that moves so well with little effort, he would be great on the outside on a wing feeding the ball inside 50.

Trade week for us will be picking up Hibberd, trying to offload Dawes for something early third round late second, giving Dunn away to improve draft position.  I think we give away our second round pick and then trying to secure an early second round pick 20-25 by trading out these two with picks and hopefully also advancing second pick to somewhere is the 30-40 range.  That is really all we will be able to do and if we can execute this it's a win.

We don't really have any players of worth that we want to off load and our picks outside second round won't attracted any decent players.  Might try to get an uncontracted free agent.

Would hope we might be able to go to them without even using the 2nd round pick, will depend on how much they need to clear out of their cap and where they perceive we'll finish next year. Pickett would be my ideal target for this, but the same could be used for Barrett, WHE, Stewart, Steele or similar, although I'm sure they rate most of those guys much higher than what they'll accept in the end.

My offer involves just a swap of 1st Rnd 2017 picks, elevating them a few spots in Rnd 1 of 2017 N/Draft,  plus our 2nd Rnd pick.

So in reality, its a 2nd Rnd pick + some.  We just move back a little in the 1st Rnd of 2017.   We can make that up in other dealings, next year.

Sydney are having list management problems themselves, with the combination of COLA discontinuation and Buddy and Tippett contracts giving them headaches.  Looks like they'll lose Mitchell this year and Zak Jones and Heeney two who are yet to be extended beyond the end of next year.

Curious, the in-club (Matt Burgan) interview with 'Shifter' Sheehan, on the club's site, about the good/several draft prospects that might be available to us at 26 (sic. Now 27).

No mention of Hibberd/trading.

Stuff-up? Tactic? Insight?

They probably send Shifter round to every club to preview their first pick. I don't think we can ignore 26 until the deal is done. There's a disclaimer that it might not be our first pick.

Yep, I can't help thinking our LM guys will again proceed as they did, so well, last year and somehow magic a larger number of picks around (both sides of) our starting top pick.

I heard West Coast are an option for Tippett to free up some $$$ to retain Mitchell

Zachary Jones will come back to Melbourne to play with his brother once his contract is finished, if the planets align.

We gave our second round pick to Essendon last year (which they used) in return for Melksham (which we couldn't use)! Surely they owe us (considering that they have now regained the use of 11/12 of their suspended players for 2017)? Maybe the AFL are assisting us in working out a trade to EFC which allows us to retain our second round pick?

When does his contract run out and given how close he was to playing in a premiership team why would he leave?

Tippett played some great footy before he was injured and some terrible footy when he came back.  I read on BF (yes I know) that he was the focus of some post-GF discontent in the Swans rooms because he had moved on too quickly, so it may not be a rose garden there.

He's a tough one for the Swans.  He's got 2 more years on big $s (800k?) and he turns 30 in May.  To get him to move a WA club would need to offer him 2 more years i.e 4 years, or why move across the country?

I spoke to someone deep in the inner sanctum about this and he said it was complete [censored] and couldn't believe how crap like that could even get put out there.

Doesn't alter the rest of what you've said.

Why didn't he just come home at the end of last year instead of signing a fresh contract? It'd be good if this was true though as he has a combo of good pace and mongrel.

There was a lot of concern last year that we weren't doing anything and some of the posters on here were hysterical, (why aren't we doing anything, why do we always miss out) but this year we have been a lot more measured except for a few silly suggestions, I haven't seen a "Get Gary Rohan" thread yet, so we've been a lot more tolerant.

If we do nothing then so be it, if we pick up a few draftees then I'd be happy with that, we don't have to delist half the side every year.

And now a key insider, Jason Taylor, on the club's website going down the same path as Sheehan, implying our first pick will be live in the draft. Presuming Hibberd is intended and a 20s pick is adequate for him, seems to reinforce that we expect to come out of the trade period with a pick or two more in the 20s (at least).

The Hibberd trade is definitely something that I'm keen to watch unfold. A mid 20's pick seems almost like it's a given, but I wouldn't be surprised if we play a little bit of hard ball. Surely Essendon would feel some responsibility to do what their players ask of them, given the hell they've been through over the last couple of years

IMO nowhere in that article Taylor implies our 1st pick will be live in the draft.  Please quote where you think he says this.

All I am really looking for is to see if we can package up maybe Dunn and garland in one trade for a re entry to the second round assuming the original pick is used on hibberd. Would be quite happy to just go to the draft this year. With what we have available any other trade for a player seems very underwhelming based upon the names out there.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

    HIBERNATING by KC from Casey

When they locked up the rooms for summer at the end of last year’s football season, the rooms gathered cobwebs, the atmosphere became dense and the place developed a sleepy feel. They opened up the rooms to let Casey out to play on Sunday but the team was still hibernating and they missed the bulk of the opening quarter. By the time they worked out it was game on, their opponents from Box Hill had accumulated five goals and, if the game wasn’t over, it might as well have been. For a se

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side. But Melbourne’s empahtic 55-point win at the MCG on Saturday has truly put a fork in the Hawk and turned that history well and truly on its head. The Demons have now won nine of their last ten encounters with the other result, a draw.     And like a fork, it was the multi-pronged options that Melbourne had all across the ground.  It certainly helped that Hawthorn
