Shocking game and no impact when it was on the line. Has happened on several occasions and we need real leaders who can turn a game. Time for Jones to hand over the reigns of captaincy.

Jones no doubt had a stinker today but has still had a decent season.

That said, Viney is a better player and leader and is ready to go, so no reason they shouldn't hand it over next year.

He doesn't know how to win when we are down. Good servant and still borderline best 22.

Love him to death but been saying it for a while. It's not his fault but gee, you'd think he'd be playing angry today. He let us down today. Fancy going your whole 10+ year career unable to heat a handful of sides and unable to win at certain stadiums. He just goes through the motions.

Seconded.  Has a bad game and he has to hand over the captaincy?  Please.

Hogan had a mare today.  Time to move him on perhaps?

Totally agree. Club must make a serious statement as well relieving the pressure on Jones to allow him to play out his career without the burden of Captaincy.

217 games played for 159 losses & 58 wins.  Time for change.

Yep, let's ruin the career of another young promising player by giving them the unnecessary pressure of captaining a crap team.

2 disposals in the 3rd quarter when the game was on the line sums it up. We need leaders to lead by example.

Jack Viney will be captain from, I would say, 2019 on wards (2018 at earliest).

To give him the captaincy based on today would be idiotic.

Have we become Richmond all of a sudden. Wanting to eat our own? Jones' worst game in six weeks. To say he is borderline best 22 is probably the stupidest comment I've heard on Demonland.

Plenty of heart but little ability, poor skills and offers zero leadership when the chips are down.

He is one of our better players for sure but no captain material. Better if he relinquished the role and gave it to someone else. Like Sam Mitchell did at Hawthorn.

What a dreadful post! Nathan Jones has been the heart and soul of our club for years! He has one bad game and you want tio crucify him! Go away! Shocking post!

Someone said in the Game Day thread that Captain Courageous was playing with a dodgy knee.

It certainly looked that way, he certainly couldn't run more than a few steps.

So back off, folks.

Lol no..

I've been saying all year that none of our "leaders" ever stand up and impose them selves on a game when it gets behind.

Jones is one who has been out best option as captain and still is for now. But it is an area that we sorely lack in.

That and a game plan that when fails we don't have a back up.

Neitz was the last captain whom would impose himself upon a contest and try and turn it.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
