The club either trades him or plays him. No point having him on our list playing for Casey unless they see that as part of him regaining his touch. Tough call for the club but spots are tightening and with another year into Hunt, Wagner, Harmes, Salem, ANB, Jack will need to get 20% better. I think it's 50./50 at the moment. I for one am backing him to play on

He is an endurance runner an excellent mark and accurate kick for goal, I may be wrong but I cannot remember hearing people talking about how slow he was when he came to the club. MFC would be the bunnies if JT resurrects his career at another club, hopefully the Coaching team give him the opportunity for an injury free pre-season to get back to the Player that he was!! If Salem is fit, Oliver, Bugg and ANB have another preseason in them, Melksham is good to go and we bring in another experienced player (Hibberd to replace H), Trengove isn't even best 27. We need players 26-38 on the list to be development players.

I'm ignoring the development of Weeds and Hulett here too because they are different players - but we'll want them coming on too.

As an in and under type he's behind Tyson, Jones, Bradshaw, Oliver, Bugg and ANB. He's a less penetrating kick and slower with ball in hand than those blokes too. I think the writing is on the wall.

The hard thing is the only role i can see Trengove playing well given his speed is inside midfielder

so he's competing with Jones, Oliver, Tyson, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca Vince and so on.

I suspect another club would give him a shot as a rookie if we did cut him.

I'd rather a season full of games at Brisbane before being rookie'd if that was on offer.

Would you prefer a season full of games at Brisbane against being on the Melbourne list but not getting a game and then being delisted ( as has happened to Grimes this year,)

Trenners might be behind the first 4 you mention but surely he is ahead of Bugg.

ANB might, in time, be better but right now, Jack offers more.

As others have noted, he is not a jet but he is a smart footballer with very tidy skills who is strong overhead for his size.

I think Grimes will be moved on but Trenners I'm feeling will get another year to have a crack. We've put a lot of time and resources into him and I feel in this situation you just have to give him as much time as possible to prove himself.

I agree with that and there is always the issue of injury and loss of form to consider. I can see a time when Jones will play another role and not be an inside mid, to be honest his capacity to get the ball is good but his disposal, in close, is not great.

We have a few we can delist this year and i'd suggest that Trenners won't be one of them. If he can get himself fully fit and maintain his Casey form, he will get games next year, maybe not 22 but he will get games.  If his form has dropped off  bit towards the end of the year, it's probably because he hasn't had a full pre season.

I just read something messed up. Sam Frost will play his 37th game this weekend.

Thats the same number of games Trenners played when he was made captain. I like the bloke, he's obviously an outstanding character - but gees it makes you wonder what the bloody hell the club was thinking at the time they made him captain at age 20.

The thing to me about Trengove in 2010 and 2011 has always been that he does everything right. And he so often bobs up in the right place at the right time to take a saving mark, a timely interception, be the first link in the chain and so on. If we need somebody to find space in a crowded f50 to kick a telling goal, he's the guy.

He also tended to bring other teammates into the game. He was the one who'd find a teammate in space, even under pressure. And he was generally able to maintain the same standard, whether we were getting smashed, in a close one, or winning easily. He would always perform to the same level. Maybe he didn't have the X-factor of Scully or Sylvia or Davey, maybe he was never BOG with 30+ possessions, but he just kept putting in week after week.

We currently have a lot of "X-factor" with the likes of Hogan, Petracca, Oliver, Hunt, Kent, Brayshaw, Watts, Viney, Garlett, Frost, VDB et al (that's half a team, by the way). X-factor players are notorious for being up & down from week to week - in fact, if an X-factor player is also consistent, they're usually in the top echelon in the comp (Dangerfield, Hodge, Dusty, Buddy for example) - and there are a few on the above list who may well reach that "consistent-X-factor" level. But X-factors tend to be match winners one week, then you don't see them for a few weeks until they put in another stellar performance. We have more than enough of these.

In my opinion we need to balance these X-factor players with the consistent reliable toilers that will maintain their game at the same standard week in week out. I wonder whether one of the reasons for our up & down season is that we've left these sorts of players at Casey while trying to seek that elusive quality that gives us an advantage over other teams. These are guys like Trengove (who in my opinion does it better than anybody else), ANB, Stretch, Michie, perhaps Bugg.

This season so far, our consistent performers have been Gawn, T-Mac, Jetta, Watts, Tyson, maybe Matt Jones, and that's about it. Our usual consistent performers in N. Jones, Vince & Viney have all had up & down seasons, possibly due to carrying injuries, possibly because other teams don't give them any space. 

I think we've got plenty of X-factor and we don't need any more into this team; what we need more of is consistency. And this is where Trengove's value lies going forward.

Trengove will be much better after another pre-season, I prefer him over Michie,Grimes,Newton,Dawes,Lumumba. He will get better  without doubt.
