From memory

past no longer an issue but it was an issue last year

asked about having the youngest list, was it by design. Said no in his roosey way. Basically said the younger guys are earning their spots over older lads

says he doesn't do heaps of the technical side of coaching. Praised his assistants no end. Said he works with the leaders and makes sure mindset is correct, tries to drag each player out and chat

has a house in Hawaii that he can rent out at a reasonable rate :roos:

fantastic interview. Whilst he spoke I reflected on where we were and where we are now, we have a lot to thank Paul Roos for. We were below a laughing stock, we were irrelevant. Three years on we are exciting and the talk is all about future rather than past. Cheers Roosy

Yeah I didn't mind this interview, seemed freer, like a bourden had been lifted.

Was asked if he was offended about Goodwin getting the credit for how we're playing. He said paraphrasing "not at all, if anyone should be offended it's the other assistants who have all been fantastic at their jobs, if you knew how a footy club was run you'd know how much they all contribute." Cop that David King.

Addressed the veil of negativity around the supporters comment he made last year, says he understands the criticism he copped, doesn't care, he said it and they had to address and deal with it last year. All that sort of stuff (player negativity) is not mentioned now. No need, it's new players now.

Not talking finals, they all know where we're at.

But he seemed to me a lot more comfortable, proud maybe.

Welcome (a bit belatedly), DP. Your views about, and hopes for, our 'main (coach) man' are well shared here, I reckon.

But I'm just trying to work out if you have any 'main (player) men' ideas? (or are you just a Russian oligarch - and, if so, please put some no-strings-attached $$$ into our club, or at least into Demonland)

It was good to see him back on 360, I miss his usual spot but having said that it makes these times he's on a bit more involved. It really seems like he feels he's achieve at least a part of what he's set out to do. He's built a professional foundation and team, and is confident he's leaving the club in good hands with team Goodwin.

I sense a lot of love for Jack Viney from him as well!

Nope,  it's just that if he felt any other way, Jack would belt the cr@p out of him

bottom line is that we are 68 points per week a better side than when Neeld finished. That's in 2 seasons plus 7 rounds. That is seriously impressive

I don't know your calculations for that figure, but I believe you 100% from what I'm seeing week to week. When you put it like that it's pretty clear how important the dude has been for us.

I'm not sure who's responsible for the hiring of Plapp at Casey, but he's also seriously impressed me from the little I've seen/heard of him. Listening last week via Casey radio, he gave the team a quite deliberate kick in the pants for a 3rd quarter effort he didn't like, despite the team being up a squillion points to nothing. He was measured, calm, deliberate but very effective. I doubt any player left the huddle thinking a cruisy last quarter was an option. It was very Roosy TBH. It wouldn't surprise me if he ended up on the MFC coaching panel in the near future.

Not sure I know how to quote your post on the thread relating to Goodwin's possible replacement but your last statement may have hit the nail on the head. This is not a question of promoting him into Goodwin's current role over McCartney either as he is also playing a fantastic role and should be rewarded for it.

They both deserve a pay rise however, assuming Goodwin may be on slightly less than Roos, I am sure that we accommodate it (plus have a little over to ensure we retain a mentoring or development academy role for Roos).

Roosy has confirmed THE VEIL OF NEGATIVITY HAS BEEN LIFTED.

Not on D'land. He clearly hasn't read the Hogan thread.

How friggin' good has this guy been for our club!

Especially liked the discussion about the negativity of the past no longer being an issue and it's not brought up at all anymore. Great to watch some of the footage of the players in the huddle at games, seeing Oliver, Brayshaw, Gawn, Viney etc so intense and driven to improve. Success is not an optional outcome for these young guys, they want it now.

Roosy's legacy will go to another level by the time he leaves us.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
