Dom Tyson has to be dropped (Rd 1)

90% of the game's really good midfielders would have hit 3/3 or 2/3 of the chances he had in front of goal today. He fluffed all of them which must be demoralising for the team (it certainly is for the fans!). Thank God BenKen was running past him for the last one or it would have been 0/4.

Won't be dropped though, at least he found the footy and he had a dip.

Patrick Dangerfield must be in the 10% then given his misses last week. Tyson isn't a good kick, but doesn't usually have issues kicking for goal. Hopefully he sorts it out.

With the ball he wasn't that bad today aside from missing 3 goals (which was 2 really as the 3rd miss was a follow up to the 2nd). Defensively he was part of a midfield that had rings run around it. And maybe as the slowest member of that midfield he is most to blame. But the blame should be shared.

I don't think he's getting dropped any time soon. But he'll need to go to half forward more and someone else with some speed will likely have to take up some midfield minutes.

Tyson was better than Viney and Oliver today.

Viney and Oliver were good last week.

They were great last week, poor this week. Tyson was poor last week, ok this week.

The point is I doubt he's getting dropped.

Tyson ain't getting dropped next week, probably not even the week after, however, at least we have established that he wasn't a part of the greatest trade of all time as many on this Forum have touted.

All I've pointed out is that he is slow, one sided and poor by foot. Might be B Grade at absolute best if he can improve some weaknesses.  GWS knew which one to let go, and unfortunately they have also offloaded another NQR in Bugg.

Cannot believe the knives out for Dom. Seriously. He can be slow to react and his skills sometimes suffer as a result (remembering he's a bloke that plays in an area of the ground where the pressure is at its highest), but I think some of our supporters are getting ahead of themselves if they think he's not good enough or deserved of being dropped. Still one of our most promising midfielders. The guy has had an injury-riddled start to his career, but he can find the football and at his best has shown he's a goal kicking midfielder. Something we severely lack.

Further, he had the third most disposals for a Demon behind Jones and Vince. Cut him a bit of slack. Particularly, when there are other blokes running around barely touching the pill.

He will stay in the side for now but he may be competing with Trenners for his spot very soon. He can't miss goals like he did today as a senior midfielder.

Disagree. Trenners is competing with Matt Jones and/or Salem, IMO. I don't believe Trenners is an out and out inside mid either. He's a winger or half back/half forward, who can play through the middle.

Didn't butcher it during field play like he did a couple of times last week but jeez he just had to kick those..Same with Brayshaw.

He wont get dropped.

OK m8s.

Dom was woefully bad yesterday, and not much better the week before. He got a few touches, sure, but were they effective? He hasn't had a significant impact on a game since his first season with us. He gets a free pass because he speaks well -- but he shouldn't be talking to the media about next week when he's had a stinker. It's like fingernails down a chalkboard to me.

Here's a list of players who were better than Tyson yesterday, in no particular order:

Lumumba, Pedersen, Kennedy, Vince, Jetta, Salem, Oliver, Brayshaw, Jones x2, Hogan, Garlett, Bugg, Viney, Watts

(FWIW in my view our worst were McDonald, Gawn, Garland, Kent, vandenBerg, Tyson)

For what we paid for him, he should be in our top 10. He's in his fifth season, his third with us, and his stats are going backwards.

He is 100% deserving of a critical eye in my book. At the moment he's a passenger.

Agree he is out of form but he was nowhere near our worst yesterday, you are kidding yourself if you think Hogan, Watts n Brayshaw were better.

The whole argument that "he's not as bad as so-and-so" is bunk when he is consistently average or worse every week.

Hogan and Watts won it for us last week, and provided spark at the beginning of the 4th yesterday. Brayshaw is a kid coming back from injury (too early, by the sounds) and given that, at least he tried his arse off. Also realise that you are pointing the finger at two players in their second season ahead of Tyson. That is insane.

Trying is not good enough from Tyson. If he's out of form, like you say, and we (apparently) have some kind of depth now, why play him?

Pointing he finger?.....i was replying to your comment that they were better than Tyson yesterday.

They weren't.

Needs to work on bursting away from congestion. He'll often hesitate or take a second or third option resulting in him either getting caught or rushed with his possessions.

The missed set shots on Saturday were infuriating, but at least he found himself in scoring positions.

His work in traffic is sublime at times, the other half of the time its TMac-like and absolutely momentum destroying. In summary, he's inconsistent (a perfect fit for this club).

Looks to have regained his earlier form and some. With Viney stepping up and having some other support coming through it's probably taken the heat off Tyson when it comes to attention from the opposition.

We desperately needed midfielders who could kick goals and he's one of them.

And he has delightful hair.

Yeah huge plot-twist.  I'm impressed.  I was seriously doubting him a couple of games ago and being a negative b*stard.

He put on a couple of hard tackles early on against Richmond and you could tell he was really switched on - his intensity was fantastic.  And not a single handball to feet!

Good on him.

Quite rightly in our best 22 Dom Tyson.

Gawn & Viney may have the spotlight at present, but this guys game was fantastic v Richmond Sunday night.

I admit it I was wrong to start this thread. Tyson was magnificent on Sunday. Will be one of our elite players for the next ten years and next premiership. May it continue.

Don't want to even hold the middle ground.

Dropped to elite in a few weeks?

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
