there's been some really good logical points being made on this thread, i'm digging it and excited to watch these new young dees come through and learn together.

harmes will DEFINITELY be in the round 1 team. i agree that he needs to start kicking a few goals, but his energy and pressure adds a lot to the group and compliments the new attacking style we're attempting to implement.

i think the pressure will be on lumumba to force his way into the team.. i just can't see him getting in front of the players ahead of him at the moment based on a few "ok" casey performances (assuming he plays the next casey game).

also, the lack of respect for pedersen on here is quite disappointing. i love him. he goes hard at it and plays his role. clunks marks and kicks straight. he's not a world beater, but he's a toiler and provides a good foil for hogan, watts, gawn, etc..

like a few have already said, it's such a nice change having to stress over leaving someone out of the team, as opposed to wondering who on earth will play 3/4 of the positions!

anyway, can't wait for the gws game and i have full faith in the coaching staff and whoever they choose in the team for round 1. go dees

Has any D'lander been down to the closed sessions.

I just want to see what they are doing with CP5. Is he off legs or does he learn all the MI6 stuff.

In the open sessions he is not in rehab and they are not treating him with kid gloves.

He joins in the main session for "X" amount of minutes 30-45 minutes.

Has he been mentioned as playing for Casey this week?

Goodwin talked last week of frost's role as being super important even if he only has a handful of stats.

Dawes has previously filled that role in my opinion.

GWS had a tall foward line against the lions. it didnt work that well with the dangerous guys being Stevie J and Cameron.

Id love to see Omac get a run each week due to having a taller match up against a team like gws. who knows they could play smaller foward line, can Omac cover a smaller quicker opponent if required?

I spoke to him at Etihad yesterday, said 3 weeks away still, so assume 3 weeks of full sessions

Lamumba is under done - id go with Omac and run bernie through half back at times for attack.

Here's how I think we will line up round 1:

B: Garland Dunn Jetta
HB: Vince T McDonald Salem
C: Brayshaw N Jones Vandenberg
HF: Watts Pederson Harmes
F: Garlett Hogan Kent
R: Gawn, Viney, Tyson
I: Oliver, B Kennedy, Frost, Bugg

E: Grimes, M Jones, O McDonald

E: Harmes I Stretch I Kennedy

This is not my preferred team, but a prediction.

Lumumba will play NAB 3 and will play round one.

The sooner Brayshaw, Petracca and Trengove come back from injury the better.

After yesterday and assuming Pederson doesn't get suspended I think

Out Lumumba ( not ready) Grimes too slow and turnover King! possibly  M Jones

IN  KENNEDY & HARMES possibly Brayshaw ( depending on fitness!

Also Trengove?? Seriously hasn't played for nearly two years game will have passed him by

Harmes a bit stiff and may come in for Frost/Pedersen if the Giants lose Cameron and go in with a smaller lineup.  I think Heritier has kept himself pretty fit and he'll be right to go in Round 1, more pace and run from the backline will be invaluable.  Just can't find a spot for Grimes at the moment though he'll undoubtedly play some games during the year.

Isn't it great to see we've got a healthy list with those out (Petracca, Trengove, Dawes) only a few weeks away from being fully available!

I never thought I'd say this, but Matt Jones is worth a spot on the bench ...

He's had a really good preseason. Who gets the credit? McCartney?

If he keeps this up we'll be calling him "Junior"!

I suspect he's being given a very simple role, which is being well communicated to him and he's playing within his limitations. It makes a difference. He's now a role player.

Nice to hear McCartney's name mentioned. It appears that all reports emerging from the Club only mention Roos, Goodwin, Mathews, Rawlings and Alison. Surely he could be given a bit of press?

Great news about Brayshaw!

And I like that Petracca and Trengove are being held back slightly and will play a few games at Casey at the beginning of the year.  Would love to see them in the side by Round 4 or 5.

Most teams seem fairly similar apart from one or two players. Harmes deserves a run for mine, but not sure who you leave out. He offers more than Kennedy IMHO, though not to take anything away from Kennedy either. The other variable is Lumumba. If he's fit, which he seems to be, he'll be included.

As for Oliver, as much a fan as anyone, but wonder whether we won't hold him back. GWS's greatest strength is in their midfield, perhaps there could be some reluctance to throw him in the deep end quite just yet. A start against Essendon might make more sense.

Whatever happens, going to be some unlucky players.

FB: Garland, Dunn, Jetta

HB: Lumumba*, T. McDonald, Salem

HF: Vandenberg, Pedersen, Kent

FF: Watts, Hogan, Garlett

FOLL: Gawn, Vince, Viney

INT: Brayshaw, Frost, Grimes, Oliver

EMERG: Harmes, Kennedy, O. McDonald

* If Lumumba gets through next week i reckon he'll play. Harmes & Kennedy unlucky to miss out, but it's good to see we have some options.

You've got Grimes ahead of Harmes, Kennedy and M. Jones. Based on what?

This is almost identical to my team with one exception. I'd leave out Frost and play the extra runner. In this case, against a speedy opponent I'd give Matt Jones a run. Will be really interesting to see if we select Pedersen, Frost, Watts and Hogan all in the same team. Most here, seem to think we will.

Possibly, although Lumumba gets a look in due to playing across half back where guys like Wagner and Hunt haven't established themselves.  Harmes is fighting for a crowded spot in the forward line.  Different cases.

Looks a lot like what I want to see. My only query is whether Frost plays or not. Do we need the extra tall against GWS? We appear to have really worked on our running fitness over the pre-season but if GWS is going to beat us it will most likely be due to their run through the middle and off half-back. I'm inclined, though not convinced, to go with M Jones over Frost for extra run and back Watts and Pedersen in as the assisting tall forwards for Hogan.

I think the key with the rotations limit is to have as many mids as possible that can 'rest' back or forward. Vince across HB, AvB across HF for example.

Mids: Gawn, Jones, Vince (B), AvB (F), Bugg (B), Tyson, Viney, Brayshaw (F), M Jones (B), Harmes (F), Kennedy (F), Oliver (F)

Backs: McDonald, Dunn, Garland, Salem, Jetta

Fwds: Hogan, Pedersen (R), Garlett, Kent, Watts.

Emer: Grimes, Frost, Lumumba
