Exceeded my personal expectations today.

Clearly the speed of the game (both generally and the way we move it these days) are things he needs to adapt to but he was strong, looked good with ball in hand and got involved.

Fingers crossed it's onwards and upwards from here.

Jack did ok. 

With the exception of looking to switch play down back, double back and poor disposal straight to Mitchell - I thought he did reasonably well first game back in tough conditions.

I'm not as positive as some, because I'm just not sure what position he'll end up in and his lack of speed looks as big a worry as ever. But there's no doubt he gave a good effort and he still has some skills and smarts. 

Hoping he can build from here.

I agree. It was a slog today and that suited him. He still looked a little slow in everything he did. Time will tell whether that is just match fitness and conditions or is actually his limit, but I feel he would have struggled on a dry deck.

I don't want people to take this as a sledge on him, I am still positive, just would have loved to see a little more zip. Hopefully that comes as he gets back up to speed.

All in all, it was great to see him back.

He's no slower than Dom Tyson, and has just as good hands both in close and marking above his head. He'll be an inside mid, and will get heaps of it.

Jack will need a few games to get used to the pace of the game and our game plan, remember when he last played we didn't have one. 

He was a bit slow to react today but that's to be expected, I would imagine he was a bit nervous. He will be ok and will get better.

Jack hasn't lost the ability to create space for himself nor has his ability in reading the play waned ... his effort to beat 2 hawks whilst incapacitating McEvoy at the same time was the play of the day in my eyes.  Footy smarts should never be underestimated and there was a reason why he was such a top junior.

He's like a new recruit and is still quite young ... to get back is an achievement in itself and if he remains fit he'll be a real asset ... so, where do we best utilise his talents?  A defensive half forward?  A link player who can set up other players into goal scoring opportunities? 

I've always liked Jack's look-away handpass or kick whilst taking contact from an opposition player.  Tyson often does it to good effect as well and it's a classy move to have for a footballer.

He looks slow but hard to know if that's the long term effects of the injury or lacking senior match conditioning. 

But what he has which is priceless, is a footy brain and an ability to work through situations. If he stays fit and healthy and can improve his speed off the mark, I think he will be a wonderful addition to our team, and wouldn't that be great!

What are you on? Seriously! You need to go have a lie down and or sober up. 

He played well today didn't star but worked into the game 19 touches and was blowing a bit by the end but will be better for it. Jack is 24 years old. ffs and you have already put a line through him, that's just sad.

Yes, Jack looked slow but so did every other player as the ground was heavy and it was scrappy football.  The ball wouldn't bounce so no player on either side went for a run, not even Jeff when he had an open paddock in front of him to run into an open goal.

But I noticed that Jack has great poise, took his time to dispose rather than just belt it somewhere, and made good decisions. He has a good footy IQ and similar traits to those we admire in Jack W. 

Its a really good time for Jack to come into the team - a few games before the bye.  The young guys will start to tire later in the season and if Jack T stays physically fit and increases match fitness he will fit very nicely into our team, especially as we really need a few mid 20 yo players to carry the load.

People are so caught up on speed.

Mitchell, Lewis, Hodge none quicker than trenners, Scotty Thompson, swanny no quicker. All champions.

Blease, Lewis Jetta etc all much quicker...

 

He uses the ball well and competes. As long as he picks up the game plan and plays within his ability he will be a bloody good footballer for us.

His fitness base is so far behind everyone else it's not funny. Next year after a full pre season we will see Trenners as a very valuable player for us.

I don't think any player looked particularly quick given the weather conditions yesterday. Considering Trengove has been out for over 2 years he did well, he'll only adjust and get better.
