Any word from training watchers how Trenners has pulled up after the weekend VFL practice outing?  That's really the critical test.  It is pretty predictable that a player of his capability will dominate that level.  It's his foot recovery that matters.

Honestly seeing how the senior team (not all that far from best 22) performed on the weekend, the way that Trenners and Petracca played for Casey and the fact they are both in full training could see both of them pushing for selection in the next 2-3 weeks. Pressure from below will hopefully drive certain individuals to perform well and consistently.

It is going to take them a few games in the VFL - especially Trenners. He has been out of football for sometime, I doubt there will be a rush. I suspect the club will also want to get at least 4-5 games into Petracca before making him available for selection. There is no rush with these guys.

With footy undergoing some real change, Trengove's aerobic capacity will be a major factor once he returns to the senior side ... however, with the growing list of potential "next in line" types growing by the week, Jack might have to bide his time until an opportunity arises.

Petracca, ANB, Stretch, vanders*, Oliver & Trengove himself will all be pushing for a spot in the rotating midfield that is a prerequisite of modern footy.  And there are others who will push for selection in that midfield too - Michie, Newton, Grimes & Matt Jones included.

It's just terrific that Jack is up and running again - many had written him off and a lot of us thought it was going to be a big ask for him to play footy again.  This time last year quite a few were living in hope that he would get full mobility in his foot again.

If ever a footballer deserves some luck, it's Jack.  The bloke is made of stern stuff and I wish him well.  He's already getting a lot of the ball which has to be seen as a real positive. 

A strength that escapes a few is Trengove's ability to run to the right spots ... in doing so he creates time and space for himself - it's one of his best assets.  It was hard for Jack to do that with the boundary hugging Neeld teams (and he was almost certainly restricted by his foot issues back then as well)

The day Trenners makes his return to the G will be a very special day. 

To me it will signify in some poetic sort of way the end of the suffering. His suffering and ours. His fate seems almost intertwined with the club's performance. He's had shocking luck and so have we, suffered a lot of setbacks as have we. Been through hell and so have the rest of us. 

His return will signify the beginning of something new, something better and I for one can't wait. Nobody deserves to experience success at Melbourne more than Trenners and Jones.

I like it! That's right up there with the great legends.   He could represent the Excalibur to Melbourne's King Arthur. Or the long hair on Melbourne's Samson's head (of Samson and Delilah).

And here's the nub of it. Trengove's aerobic capacity. With a sister who's a world class marathon runner and another who's a rower it seems like the genes are on Jack's side.

Ghirmay Ghebreslassie may not beat Usain Bolt over 100 meters but would outrun him over 20, 30, 40 minutes or more. And the ability to get to more and more contests throughout a quarter of football is just as important as blistering speed over 20 metres. So if Jack gets back his endurance will be his weapon and not his pace over 20 meters.
