Casey round 3

This might seem the most prudent path. Whether it's round 3 or another. Just start him with a half or so for a few games and monitor closely. No sense undoing all the hard work. He's proving to be made of stern stuff with laudable mettle. Bravo to the lad. But ease back into it son.

Let's see him do two weeks of full training then assess when he will play.

Full training is the main kpi, no doubt about that.

Be interesting to know how many k's he is doing? Especially on what looks to be a hardish surface.

It looks like central park in the photo. Thats around 6 miles. And there hasn't been any snow so good weather for running.....

We potentially have a number of exciting new recruits this year, many of whom were on our list in 2015.

Petracca, Kent, Trengove, Salem, Frost. Not a bad list of players here. It's the first time in years I'm not waiting for our most recent first rounders to do that much, immediately at least.

Bring it home Dave Misson.

Yeah but having said that, there's every chance Oliver will do what Brayshaw did and make a real contribution too

as I mentioned elsewhere, Viney+Vanders+Salem+Tyson missed 33 games between them last year

then there's Kennedy, Melksham and Bugg

That's 12 players mentioned who are poised to contribute something they did not last year.. that means sweeping lineup changes

Exciting

Not sure you should be counting Frost in yet RB.

I am far from convinced his foot is ok.

I used to live next to the park, it's a gravel track and very forgiving surface to run on. (None of you ever had to watch sex in the city obviously, because the cute brunette used to run around the lake all the time, i think they call it Jackie Onassis reservoir or similar). It is actually a ripper place to go for a run as there are some super serious athletes who motor around the park. If he had run there earlier last year he would have seen me kick a sherrin to my son with us both in Melbourne jumpers. The only real danger around the park for Jack is doing his foot turning around to check out the candy. Some seriously cute girls get down to the park to run (Broadway actresses and similar).

Based on your years of medical experience and close inspection of the injury...

well a 4-6 week injury that  became 8 months and then had a "hiccup" is quite a worrying predicament, medical experience or not

Considering his foot is still having problems I can see his point. While 'none' of us have any information or medical report on his foot it is a concern that's its been an on going problem for nearly 12 months now and with Frost having missed fair chunk of the pre season so far he will be a fair way behind the pack. I really do hope he comes good soon though I really rate his freak athletic ability and feel his best spot is down back taking on the big gorilla forwards like Cloke Kennedy and Franklin.

Loved this bit:

Based on what he’s observed on the training track this pre-season, Trengove expects the Demons to continue their improvement on the field with the often-maligned Jack Watts to be leading the charge.
“This pre-season’s been tremendous. I’ve seen a lot of improvement, a lot of the guys that have been around for a bit have really taken that next step,” he said.
“A prime example is Jack Watts. He’s copped a lot of stick over the time but if you ask any of the boys at the moment who the best trainer is, Wattsy would be right up there.

Of course the haters will find a way to make that comment into a negative (eg 'well he's coming from so far back....', 'should have been happening years ago', 'says more about his previous standards...'etc etc) but the haters gonna hate.

The quote from Trenners aligns with the obsevations some DL track watchers have made about Watss' voice and leadership in training.

Good onya both Jacks

This view shared by you and perhaps others is maniacal.

I can't imagine one supporter that doesn't want Watts to succeed and have a fantastic year of footy.  Notwithstanding my personal views as to the likelihood, I'll do cartwheels if he can kick 40+ goals.  Btw, I realise his success doesn't have to rely solely upon goals, but that's where I see his highest value.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
