Yeah I stole your thread idea Return To Glory (sorry) but as it is the off season it seems like it could be a bit of fun. What were your opinions or feelings regarding a player that were completely wrong?

The one that comes to mind for me is that Addam Maric just didn't get enough of a chance.

I've so many I don't know where to start.

Jack Viney: thought he'd be too small and skills too scrappy to be any good.

Nev Jetta : same.

Luke Tapscott:...but he looks so strong and likes hurting people...if only he could find the ball.

Two blokes I owe apologies to:

Lynden Dunn: other than his first handful of games where he looked like he'd be a good HFF, all I could see was a bloke that was prone to brain farts and who was more interested in being phoney tough than playing football. "We'll never be a good team as long as he's in our 22" was something I was pretty fond of saying until not that long ago. I don't know if it's maturity; him finding a position that suits him; the right word in his ear at the right time or shaving off the mo, but I'm pleased that he is comfortably picked each week and is someone dependable in our backline.

Clint Bartram: "Why the hell is he getting picked at all? Bloody useless. We'd be better off a man short." Yeah, that's what I thought of him for his first couple of years. But geez at the end he was the shutdown king on small forwards. If his knee had have held up we'd be a 2-3 goal a week better side with him in it (that is 2-3 goal we don't have to worry about getting kicked on us side).

On the other end of the scale:

Tom Scully: Yeah I was seduced. I thought he was going to be the Fyfe of the new Melbourne era. That 18 touch last quarter against Footscray seemed to prove the point. But he's proved to be a very expensive good ordinary player. Still he saved us $300 million a season and got us Hogan, so I can't hate him for his backstab. Nah, who am I kidding. He's still a turd, but lucky for us he's not our turd.

Cale Morton.

I still believe with the right weights program and in a decent team that didnt destroy his confidence he'd have been ok

Not so much confidence, but having it drilled into him from the beginning in the AFL that he was an outside receiver that should float around collecting cheap possessions, and avoiding anything physical or contested.

I would've walked on by Biffen.

I did, however, buy a Glen Campbell greatest hits album and I still like it and anything written by Jimmy Webb.

Felt Luke Tapscott could be Rene Kink - like if he could get on the park. He's doing very well for Sorrento.

Please don't tell us anymore, BBO.

I don't want to be an accomplice after the fact...

Um, jeez, I don't know - about every player I suggested during my cringeworthy Flag Core © madness from a few years ago... Morton and Gysberts the most laughable.

But the ones that were the reverse - wrote off Garland after Rd 2, 2008. Dunn has stopped jumper punching and pulled a career out of the fire I didn't think he would be able to get. Not many of these...

I was right onto Viney and Hogan. Knew Viney would be this good when his mum had parents of older boys complain to her about how he played his footy.

And as soon as I saw some footage of Hogan before the Mini Draft - it was by any means necessary...

So it's not all delusion and stupidity.

thought gysberts was going to be a star.

thought brent heaver was going to be a star.

thought sean charles was going to be a star.

thought jurrah was going to be a star, and a pillar of the community, and inspiration for a legion of aboriginal players coming through.

thought jakovich was going to be the greatest goal kicking full forward ever, and lead us to the promised land.

thought northey was the man to take us to a premiership.

the list goes on and on...

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
