The way I have painted it is Toumpas for Kennedy which seems fair. Both are living off their U/18 potential and done sweet bugger all in the AFL to date. Both lack composure.

Which leaves Howe for pick 29 and 50, seems like a poor result. I think Howe is worth two picks in the 29-35 range.

We better use 50 on Bugg and not 29...

I'm willing to bet we will use 29 on Bugg. He has more value than Melksham and Kennedy + this club is as weak as [censored]!

Wait, nothing has been confirmed yet right?

Lets wait for official trade confirmation before we all go nuts.

If however the deal above is correct, than as per usual, we got screwed by stronger clubs and [censored] players changing their mind and playing games with us.

I really looks like every club went into this deal trying to get rid of players and looking for suckers to take them on. I'm a little disappointed nobody actually did the "We'll give you pick 20 and Kennedy for pick 25" routine.

I can only assume that our recruiting team see some sneaky value in the mid-late picks. The trades in this draft seem to suggest that -

1 - everyone wants to hang onto their very early picks.

2 - picks in the 25-50 range seem to be valued higher than usual.

Maybe it's a weak draft with a long tail? Like an emaciated apatosaurus.

Lets chill out. We need to wait until the end of Thursday to decide if the trade period has been positive / negative for us. You can't look at the JH and JT trade in isolation. Too much is going on behind the scenes.

Port

+ Toumpas, pick 32

- pick 29, 50 and 68

Melbourne

+ Kennedy, pick 29 and 50

- Toumpas, Howe

Collingwood

+ Howe, pick 68

- Kennedy, Seedsman

Adelaide

+ Seedmans

- Pick 32

Is this just a hypothetical?

People are losing their [censored] over something that hasn't even happened yet, right?

Posted

Righto, I find this more underwhelming than the melksham deal. Using the picks-points values and logic gives the following:

Seedsman to collingwood p32(584 points)

Howe and p68(59 points) for kennedy and seedsman (584 points) - adjusting points values gives Howe for Kennedy and 525 points(approx p35)

Port traded p29(653 points) + p50(273 points) + p68(59 points) = 985 points

For Toumpas and 32(584)

Therefore Toumpas is worth 401 points(p42)

Based on points values we traded Howe for Kennedy and p35 and Toumpas for 42.

No one rushing to defend Mahoney now...

Pretty ordinary seeming deal the mfc.

DA the hard part for footy clubs is players can veto any move. So even though we apparently had a much better offer from the Suns, we couldn't take it as Howe didn't want to go there... Makes life very fing difficult.

Both players wanted out, it was nothing or what we can get I would have thought.

Jimmy T good luck, wished you had stayed and become a permanent member of the team.

Howe gfy.

I don't think we got dudded as much as some think. We just didnt make a profit.

out...one very over hyped 1-1/2 trick..ive got tix on myself one way runner/turn over merchant as well as one broken, never quite got off to the start he showed and could hardly crack it for our best 25.

Many here over valuing these two.I wont.

We traded iut what we dont need and might get in what we can use.

Thats actually progress.

well despite the above there is no confirmation the deal(s) have been lodged with afl

i'll wait for the fat lady before deciding to celebrate or barf

Howe has been an average AFL player and Toumpas has played one good game. Yet all of a sudden we should be getting 4 second rounders, 3 players and a partridge in a pear tree.

Plus the deal isn't even finalised yet. The only person who has put something out there is Anderson.

I'll still back the FD.

Ooh, that doesn't look good. I see Kennedy and Toumpas of very similar value.

Meaning picks 29 and 50 for Howe, which is pretty disastrous.

I dont think we got shafted at all, Howe and Toump are hopeless players.

The frustration is because of the Howe to Gold Coast deal that was all lined up but is now just a pipe dream.

It was a pipe dream the moment he nominated the Pies. Once that happened the deal was over with GC.

yeah I agree, so the club then has new rule. The last year of the contract is really the 2nd last year of your contract. No more of this wait and see rubbish from players and managers. If you don't sign with us, you will be traded before your last year

AFL reporting that the paperwork and announcement of swapped picks will be happening later tonight or tomorrow.

Relax for now and then have an unwarranted meltdown at your leisure.

I have to question what the hold up is with formally announcing the finalised deal, especially the picks.

Surely there is some sticking point, and I'm willing to bet it is us.

All other teams will be happy with their outcome - if we walk away all of this falls apart.

There will be twisting of arms and greasing of palms to get this over the line, but it is clearly not finalised with all parties happy.

How could you even manage to get 4 teams into the one room and coming to agreement on a deal like this?

I think some have jumped the gun or tried to call it early while it suits them.

If GWS accept 50 for Bugg (fat chance) we've done alright, but there's no chance of pick 3 now without an extra second rounder for Howe. The pick 50 in this trade should've been at least 32.

I also equate Toumpas and Kennedy as a reasonably logical trade, so 29 and 50 as the return for Howe is mind-numbingly poor .

Give the man a prize.

Yes we got dudded on the 'dream' deal

But back in reality it is what it is.

Im annoyed by the filth but i dont think we got done per se. Just missed the prize. Two essentially different things.

What were you expecting for Howe? Take away his speccies and there's not much left

That's not the point.

The point is that he was worth so much more to Gold Coast, and this trade if true is less than that value.

Posted

I can't say I'm disappointed in this trade. I don't believe Howe was going to get any better. Yes he was great to watch at times but when moved forward he struggled to kick a set shot and he only knew how to run one way. I've also always thought his attitude on the ground was quite poor. Toumpas has no pace and as an outside mid thats the one aspect of your game you need. I thought he was pretty gutless at times and hasn't really added much to his body since being at the club. I don't have much to say about either Bugg (presuming that trade gets done with picks we receive) or Kennedy but I honestly can't see how we loose really. I think we just break even really.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
