The Frawley Factor

pitmaster

Recommended Posts

It was mentioned in the commentary Friday night that James F has not won over the Hawthorn supporters yet, and Friday could be his big chance.

We all know how that turned out.

He might get another chance this week (if he ain't dropped) but what is the chance that Frawley might make top clubs think twice about pinching free agents in future?

Apparently the Pies are going a little cold on Kreuzer BTW.

Frawley is one of those blokes that had an All Australian year when he was young and hungry to make a name for himself.. He stopped working hard and just went along with the flow on the back of that achievement thinking he had already made a career for himself. Unfortunately for James, he forgot to keep working hard.

Hawthorns famed recruiting has taken a bit of a dip...Frawley, O'Rourke, Garlett.

Not everything you do turns to gold, they can afford a few mistakes.

Interestingly placed now with ageing players they can't afford any more and maybe they've made one mistake too many.

Each case will be different.

Kreuzer's body is the thing that will keep him from huge money.

There still needs to be some form of restriction on top 4 clubs getting FAs, I don't think Frawley's troubles will deter them on other players...

Frawley is a very good one-one on defender. Not so good when he has the ball. Very Average forward against decent opposition.

He was played out of position on Friday night. Should have always started on Kennedy or Darling. Once moved onto Kennedy in the second half he kept him goalless after he kicked 3 in the first half.

He'll be a lot better next year when Lake retires.

Wrong.

I was there at Subiaco last Friday. What Frawley provided in that final was typical.

Don't worry about Tom Scully. James Frawley is the most overpaid and overrated footballer in the AFL. He is a shocker. Like Lyon said, with ball in hand, he is horrible. He wont have Hodge Mitchell and Lewis darting to provide clear options for him for too long. They are slowing up. As his choices get less and bunched, his decision making and execution will come to the fore.

I am rapt he left Melbourne. Absolutely rapt.

I may have called it in his AA year too.

Reminds me of a chook with his head cut off when he has the ball.

Free agency has been an absolute boon for us....as well as the Scully walk out.

Undid some of the damage of our recent draft [censored] ups.

James Frawley is just another in a long string of recent Melbourne players who thought success would just come to them. People always talk about those players getting "Melbourne'd"; but in reality it was Melbourne that got screwed over by the Moloney, Frawley, Morton, Blease, Maric, etc mindset. Not to mention "blueprint basecamp" Schwab.

What few players of that ilk are still at this club have had their brains so scrambled by our lack of success that they now believe that no amount of hard work will result in success. I won't name names because those players are still on our list, but hopefully it won't be long until they're all gone.

Apart from Moloney, all the players you have mentioned were (or are) all physically under-developed. You can add to the list Watts and Grimes. Just compare them with the physical shapes of players like Vince, Cross and Lumumba.

Given some of those who did have strong bodies (Sylvia, Moloney, Tapscott) didn't set the world on fire either, it wasn't just physical under-development that's been an endemic problem. But it sure hasn't helped.

Not sure how you can categorically say that I'm "wrong". You disagree with my view, that's fine, you may end up being right, but until such time as 1) Lake retires and 2) Frawley takes over that role, my view is as possible as you think it is impossible.

Hawks should play Spangher above him.

When Frawley was younger and I was a huge fan then, every time he lost a contest you could see the frustration all over his face. He would put everything into winning every contest and be livid when he didn't.

You stopped seeing that a few years back and he has been bog ordinary ever since

Sometime in the last few years he started to give away far too many frees when defending one on one. Not sure if rule interpretations changed or he became clumsy or lazy, but the amount of frees he gave away got very frustrating.

Given we got Angus Brayshaw with the pick we got for him, he deserves a life membership.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
