Daniel Currie or

Daniel Gorringe as ruck depth and compete with Spencer for the back up ruckman gig.

Currie will be a number 1 ruckman at another club next year. Almost won the JJ Liston last night from his first 9 games before injury ruined his year.

Season is over for us so thought I would make this topic.

My question is who do you want in the red and blue next year?

Who do you want that you think is realistic chance of us snapping up?

I have put a few names down.

H Bennel for Howe would it get it done? I think it may well giving Harley's latest indiscretion.

Here is one for you Shaun Atley. offer North a 1st round pick for next year in 2016. Giving there ageing list a first rounder next year when the likes of Boomer, Dal Santo, retire will be very hard to say no to on there side.

Still on North. Dan Currie would be handy pick up as ruck. About to hit 26 years old, peaking age for rucks they say. Would not cost much and he can play second fiddle to Gawn.

Last one Jed Anderson from the Hawks for me running tough mud starved of opportunities.

Adding Bennel Atley and Anderson addresses our speed factor in the midfield.

Thoughts? Opinions?

Our immediate needs are obviously an A grade mid, a classy running back, & a power marking & nasty forward pocket.... I Want us to address these needs, asap.

so would like Danger & Hawkins f/a; trade hard for JO'M ; trade hard for a Kreuzer/Vardy/follower type ; & running back? Hartlett or any others?

Melbourne needs Royalty, a Prince; so from the draft, I'd like us to go tall & young

Charles Curnow with P-1,

& find/trade in a 2nd pick for Sam Weideman,

&, also don't know what pick gets it done; but its time we invested in SuDan... Gach Nyuon - Height: 201cm, Weight: 81kg, Born in Sudan, he arrived in Australia with his family aged seven.

.Athletic ruckman who played a major role in the success of Vic Country being the outstanding ruckman of the championships and winning All-Australian Under-18 honours.

.Provided first use to his midfield and continually provided a target around the ground.

.Best on ground in first round of TAC Cup finals gathering 19 possessions, seven marks and 32 hitouts for the Stingrays.

.Member of the NAB AFL Academy. Averaged 22.8 hitouts per game at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Kade Kolodjashnij - Half Back Flanker/Wingman with elite kick and running ability

Nathan Freeman - Highly rated midfielder with serious running power and x factor, hopefully can overcome hammy issues

Bennell - The A-grade talent we're crying out for

Tomlinson - The hulking CHF who would love playing with best mate Dom Tyson at the G.

Adcock - Another experienced leader with a hard edge, is clear he can still play and would be the right replacement for Crossy

Bennell out of the realistic targets, Prestia would be perfect but is more likely to happen next year. I'd like us to trade this years pick and hopefully get a player + a later pick to choose either Riley Bonner or Kieran Lovell

May be a controversial call but I see a lot of upside to Ryan Schoenmakers. Been in a good team and at times I think has been unlucky not to crack into the team. Is big bodied and quite quick for his size. Can play forward and back. I think we could get him for little as well.

Kruezer as a FA pick up, at a sensible price and if the medical clears him.

Josh Walker as a 2-year low price contract and a token late draft pick.

Any genuinely high quality midfielder that becomes available should be seriously investigated (e.g. Redden, Treloar, O'Meara, but not so much Melksham)

Delisting the obvious 6; Bail, Terlich, McKenzie, M Jones, Fitzpatrick. Riley.

Retain Watts, Garland and Grimes, mostly because I think between the three of them they ensure that every poster on Demonland will still have a player they maniacally hate. Also, I think 6 delistings, two 'pushed' retirements and the near-certain exit of Howe means enough exits, at a count of 9. Players like Watts/Grimes/Garland/Dawes/Dunn/Lumumba are needed for now, as mature depth if nothing else.

Besides, there has to be someone left to delist in 2016 to make room for free agents Hannebery, Rich, Sidebottom, Harlett and Armitage.

We could probably afford to offer every one of them 750k a year.

I think this year is mostly one for monitoring opportunities, being ready to trade even our first pick to get a suitable premium target, and clearing out almost all of the outright not-AFL players.

Again, I think 2016, when we've just won a final and smoothly transitioned to Goodwin, is when the final round of big moves will be made.

He's always looked slow and mechanical at AFL level. Like Jamar of late (who still largely dominated the VFL). I don't know how much better than Spencer he would be. So I wouldn't be in a hurry to find out. I'd rather draft and develop a guy who has the athleticism for AFL.

We won't be getting any AA midfielders until we're consistently up near the top end of the ladder.

Unless we get stupid with $$$, which isn't going to happen.

Reality.

Let's revisit this post after the trade and FA period see if you're right.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
