Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I don't understand why, but is there any player on our list more polarising than Garland?

People have strong views on Watts and Toumpas, but with Garland people seem to either think he's an underrated superstar, or an overrated VFL hack. There really doesn't appear to be much in between.

Personally, I fall into the 'overrated' category. I don't think he's that talented really, but that to one side I cannot stand his attitude, lack of leadership and body language on the field. For someone who, whether he likes it or not, needs to be a leader of the club, he is failing big time, and that is the main reason I wouldn't mind moving him on.

Don't believe I have ever read that on Demonland.

I'm on the keep him bandwagon (amazingly close poll at this stage) but has it actually been confirmed he has been signed? I have seen nothing official.

With Howe going, Garland provides depth and a senior body down back. I'm happy enough for him to have another contract, but hope he is challenged for his position over the next season or so.

Hopefully Mitch White can start to take over in the next year or so.

We could stand to recruit another medium defender who can contribute offensively.

Fair point there Chaser. I think we would all agree that something we haven't had enough of is competition for spots. We are getting better, slowly, in this area but if we can improve it again further next year then it can only be a positive thing for us going forward.

Yeah, people are kidding themselves if they didn't think we'd miss Howe AND Garland over the one off-season. Howe's clearly out the door so I'm happy to hear Garland's staying. He's been a loyal clubman through tough times, and he's one of the core group of long-suffering players who deserve success.

I reckon I'll vomit if I hear that again....

So poor, these long-suffering AFL footballers.... What a tough life Garland must have.

Give me a [censored] break.

Did he make a meaningful contribution yesterday?

I thought he was 'meh' again.

Yesterday's game typified and exemplified exactly the problem that I outlined in the opening post. A group of problematic players.

Who set the tone early yesterday? We were 'lead' by Viney, Hogan, Salem, Brayshaw yesterday simply in the way that they wanted to play the game. Jones and Vince were on- board also.

These are the guys that are dragging the club out of the mire.

Yesterday I again witnessed efforts from Garland and Dunn that just had me baffled.

I'll be gob-smacked if Garland stays.

A couple of ordinary kicks, at least one marking contest where he stayed down when he should've gone up but otherwise some pretty solid efforts. Read the play pretty well. Set up young Mitch White and Oscar McDonald in good spots for them to impact. Likely played a high TOG percentage as well.

If we are trading Howe and can't get good FA compensation from Garland then it's a no brainer to keep him on a 1 or 2 year incentive based deal.

Oscar Mc and Frost might be the future alongside Tom McDonald in our backline but if we get rid of the competition and depth that Dunn and Garland provide then those youngsters (especially given Frost's injury status this year) have to do a lot in a hurry.

The problem is that Roos keeps playing him without considering that we might be a better team with a more attacking backline.

The attacking Howe has played half back most of the year. Salem has when fit. Stretch played half back. I'm not sure why Lumumba was getting a game all year but it certainly wasn't his defensive work. It might've taken a while but eventually young Oscar Mc and White got a chance. Frost has been injured all year and Terlich is Terlich.

I'm not sure who everyone thinks Garland should've been dropped for?

I'd love to have played Vince more at half back but he was our best mid and with Tyson battling injuries, Vanders injured, Brayshaw tired, Michie and Newton not coming on quickly we didn't have that luxury.

You can go around in circles all you want and eventually what you find is that the 22 who played round 1 for us plus Bernie Vince was probably our best team. Stretch, ANB, Harmes, Oscar Mc and Mitch White all put their names up during the year but that's how development is meant to work.

How was Garlands year as a whole? That's what the coaches are looking at. Not a round 23 dead rubber.

In the mid season review Roos had him as the most consistent player. Not alot changed in the second half. Garland has played in the backline on smalls, talls and resting mids in the worst side of the last decade. He can hold his head high over that time. You can't have a team off 22 leaders so I can't understand why lack of "leadership" is being held against him.

I'll be very surprised if Garland wants to leave or if Melbourne want to offload him. Expect him to be in our best 22 next year.

At his best (which was a couple of years back), Garlo was a stout defender amidst a fairly ordinary lot. He rarely (if ever) provided run or drive out of defense, and that's a quality which is paramount in today's game. If he is indeed on our list in 2016, I hope that his spot in our best 22 is quickly assumed by someone who has a strong defensive mind set, but can just as easily turn defense into attack through a combination of pace, quality disposal and excellent decision making and awareness with ball in hand. Garlo is barely average in these areas imo..

He took the game on more under Neeld than he does now.

One of the only ones that played better under him than Roos.

I though his season was average

Glad he has re-signed though.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
