6. Hogan - He again beat a repeat AA backman. Took more than the three CM he's credited with and converted well.

5. Dawes - Didn't think I'd be mentioning him in the best any time soon, but he was really good today. Kicking was much better, he held his marks and kept us in it when we were being blown away.

4. Viney - Keeps up his good form, he was once again a beast.

3. Tyson - Probably his best game of the year. He got rid of the ball quicker, linked up and was a threat going forward.

2. Gawn - Was beaten, but fought it out well. Needs to get fitter still.

Struggling to find another to give the nod to. There are a bunch who had OKish but not great games who could fit in here.

1. Brayshaw - Didn't get enough ball, but give him credit for that great goal. I still think he needs a week off to recharge his batteries. His output has been way down the last month.

6. Dawes - who would've thought?

5. Hogan - salivating!

4. Viney - never stops trying.

3. Tyson - working back into it.

2. Cross - never shirks a contest!

1. M. Jones - again, who would've thought?

6. Jack Viney - In a game where Vince and N.Jones were by and large invisible, he was the heartbeat of the side in what us in terms of guts and determination an elite effort.

5. Jesse Hogan - Immense up forward

4. Chris Dawes - great game and execution of the role of the second string forward

3. Dom Tyson - a return to something near best form

2. Jeremy Howe - very tough beyond the top four but thought he played a sound game and took some terrific clutch defensive marks that were a big part of the comeback.

1. Daniel Cross -

6 Dawes. Got us back into the game when we looked like wed lose by a hundred.

5 Hogan. This kid is going to be an absolute jet of an AFL player, if he isnt already.

4 Tyson. Best game for the club this year. We needed it, because the rest of our mids stank.

3 Brayshaw. Our best home-grown midfielder in years.

2 Viney. Our second best home-grown midfielder in years. Bullock our midfield into action.

1 Vince. Way down on his usual form, but still played a vital midfield role.

Dishonourable mentions:

3 Garlett. Who knows what would have happened had he marked that simple chester.

2 Watts. Blew a lot of chances by being too cute.

1 Garland. Atrocious disposal.

Yet your next 4 votes went to mids! We're the rest that bad? Edited by monoccular

No love for Tom McDonald? Petrie did nothing today! Usually rips us a new one!

I think many of us, myself included, looked at some of his kicking, particularly towards the end, and wrote him off. Might be unfair, but some of his mistakes stood out for me more than usual.

6 Hoges - A constant presence and first time I can recall one of our blokes beating Scott Thompson for quite a while.

5 Viney - How tough was he. Half the time he had Ziebell on him and his disposal was really precise this week.

4 Dawes - How good was he early when we were struggling and then he had to go and cover for a tired Gawny

3 Tyson - Cleanest game for ages. Seemed to know when and where to release this week.

2 - Howe - Shocking early but had an amazing second quarter as third man up on Waite and also provided dash.

1 - T-Mac - Had to go back on to Brown when Dunn couldn't cope with him initially and later returned to Petrie, but provided run and presence from back.

My reasoning is that our midfield stank in the first and fourth, and got us into in the second and third. So they both cost us the game and nearly won it for us. Such is the midfield’s importance.

Matt Jones was very good today.

Neither M. Jones nor Mitchie were able to kick a goal from a set shot 20-30 metres out. If they were capable our first quarter would not have been so deplorable!

6 - Viney ( 4 excellent quarters )

5 - Hogan ( intelligent game and took marks at both ends )

4 - Tyson ( looked to be moving freer and disposal was effective for the most part )

3 - Dawes ( his bad is rotten, but today he had a positive impact)

2 - Gawn ( didn't break even but wasn't disgraced by the best in the league )

1 - M. Jones ( far from pretty to watch but he provided some good run)

6.Dawes - one of our leaders who really stood up today and was great with his leads, pressure and could easily have grabbed 5

5.Hogan - as above and for the love of god just get the 10-12 year deal done just like was done for Alistair Lynch, he is the one we have been waiting for

4.Viney - continued his impressive form, and was our best mid who helped turn the game

3.Tyson - assisted Viney greatly and showed what he can do, please god a unninterupted preseason beckons for him

2.Howe - was our best defender IMO played the intercept role and set up rebound from half back

1.Gawn - improving all year and was good against the leagues No 1 ruckman

Clearly our best players were Hogan and Viney ...We were second to the ball in the first quarter until Viney must have been given a different roll on the second quarter because he changed the momentum in the middle on his own IMO, Hogan was simply dynamic, worked hard and is the complete package...how good are his passes to players inside 50..

6. Hogan (A powerhouse from half back to full forward)

5. Dawes ( His best game and against a good side)

4. Tyson (Showed his class again and was consistent in the midfield)

3. Viney ( A prime mover in getting us back into the game)

2. Howe ( a couple of courageous marks and good defensive efforts. Must keep)

1. Cross ( Always reliable)

Honourable mention to M.Jones. Took his chance and probably saved his bacon.

I have memories of how good he was at the start of the year so when he isnt keeping an opposition to 0 goals and having 25 himself his name just doesnt come up. He played a really good game and he is so smart. Watching him peel off to read the flight and help out his fellow backs is great. I was scared a couple of years back about loosing Frawley then Gardland, but now with the hopeful return of frost I'm feeling happy about it.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
