GAME DAY - Round 14

Recommended Posts

Our form has gone up and down all year, from week to week and even quarter to quarter. Most of us recognised before the Cats game that our best is very good but it doesn't come out often enough. That is our challenge, to bring it every quarter every week and start knocking off some big sides. Tonight is a chance, we just need to bring it 100% of the time. Again it needs to be taken into consideration that we are still very much below full strength with 9 genuine players unavailable. Also, the Eagles seem to matchup really well against, having beaten us the last 7, with 3 of those times by over 90 points. The fact they have never played in Darwin is very interesting, it could be that we are looking back at the end of the game discussing how that was big advantage for us. IN any case, I can't wait. Hogan, Brayshaw and Viney alone make the dees worth seeing these days, and I think we're building something special.

I'm not sure why but I'm nowhere near as concerned with Naitanui as I am with other parts of West Coast's side.

Their dynamic forward line is a huge threat, as is their midfield (Gaff, Shuey, Priddis, Selwood, Masten). Those are the two areas we have to focus on, way more than Naitanui IMO.

I know deep down we are capable of winning this but as with the Geelong game I also know that if we don't put in the right effort and have 22 performers we're not going to win. I'm so excited to watch it play out though.

60 point loss coming up, just got that feeling...

Wait I have that every week...

ha ha

No one can blame you for that - I wonder if the more senior players have a similar mindset going into these games

I'll be most interested to see how we respond if we can generate an early lead ala the GWS and Port games. If we manage to get in a similar position that will be the real test of progress. How much does the Geelong win mean and was it a watershed one? I've been very excited for this game, but the closer it gets, the more nervous I get.

mm best way to deal with it is keep your expectations realistic - hope for a combative effort - if things turn bad I have the latest Hannibal episode to watch :)

Sitting in the Bamboo Bar in Bali before flying out to Timika at 0130hrs tomorrow morning. Quite a few Bogan WCE supporters in attendance so hope to be sticking up them later today.

On a side note, Gary Abletts beard looks good.

How long until the Media™ criticise him for it if the Suns keep losing?

I'm surprised that no1 is suggesting McDonald to darling? Darling is renowned for his endurance and we have no other backman who can go with him? Dunn will have to pull something out of his arse like he has in the past on other forwards :)! Agree with garland to lecras too. Getting excited for the match!! Go dees!

Just seen the scores from our last 5 encounters with WC. Average 70 point loss per game. Funny how the mind shuts out such painful memories. We need to deliver some serious payback. This may be our best chance for a long time.

Why is it a specialty?

While being too tall seems problematic for Darwin, conversely for the last few years we've been undersized every time we play WCE. It's not Jamar's fault that he's a comparatively short ruckman, but having two genuinely tall ruckmen in the side is a big change which may well make a difference. Also, having a genuine crumber in Garlett makes the tall forward line less problematic.

But I still think we'll lose by about 8 goals.

I read yesterday in the herald sun that Gillon had made the booking to attend our match. Not sure if he will still make the trip after yesterday and the tragic circumstances but maybe he was going to have a look to see how the game goes up there and if people are interested.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
