Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Delistings/trades at end of the season

Recommended Posts

Looking more and more likely all the time, we want him, he wants to come.

in terms of the trade, say we lose garlo and free agency comp is pick 19 so 500k per year= pick at the end pf the first round

pick 19 & 23 for prestia and a late pick

personally id just throw up pick 5

I really hope this eventuates, just hope he doesn't change his mind with the Suns seeming to find a bit of form and Melbourne far from a wise investment regarding likelihood of finals.

Edit: Wouldn't mind a deal that included Lynch as well.

Heard from a friend of the Prestia's today that Melbourne have put an offer in front of Prestia and he is giving it serious consideration.

Whilst I don't wish to 'pick' on him, can some of you watch Garland today and tell me what he's adding to the side today?

He's already fluffed kicks. One of which was to a player less than 15 metres away on his own.

Do people see how one-dimensional our backline is?

Garland has value through FA. We need a different skill set in our side and in our backline.

Watch Garland for the rest of the day and you'll see what I mean. He is insignificant. Irrelevant.

I tend to agree with you.

I don't see in Garland what everyone else appears to see.

He is horrendously slow at disposing of the ball, generally makes bad decisions too. I wouldn't say he's a good kick - we have worse, but it's not like he has some silky kicks we can't afford to lose. I don't consider him good one-on-one, again we have worse but we have better. He's not tall or big enough to play as a key defender but we have Jetta to play on smalls.

I really don't see it.

Watched garland closely today. Sad as it is, reluctantly beginning to agree with STMJ and Titan.

Better in the 2nd half but terrible first half. Agree that we can't have Jetta, Cross and Garland in the same backline. Not the current Garland who can't run the ball out as he did in 2013. Injury and resultant lack of fitness have killed him. Would let him go for a 2nd rd compo pick. Would consider it for a 3rd rounder as well but the draft is shallow.

Whatever the offer is, add %10. Needs to be too good to refuse.

Our first pick and Howe... And fingers crossed.

As I've mentioned before, Mark Robinson has alluded to Prestia using the "unsafe workplace" argument if push comes to shove.

Not sure I'm a fan, but if we're in the winning side of that argument...

True. And we've had it used against us, so as far as I'm concerned, we're owed one.

Good point adam.

I have no idea why people are so harsh on Garland?

He performs consistently, he is a good user of the football, he goes hard and gives his all week in week out

He has gone through the same hell as a lot of the other players, and has stuck it out. He's had a decent season, and it's beyond me why people would want him gone

Howe on the other hand, can take his speccie highlight reel and back the truck out!

gotta disagree jaded.

garland is and has been a fine servant of the club, and him leaving as a free agent might gift us a second round pick. that's not being harsh, that's being an optimist (he's more likely to get us a third round pick).

he performs consistently middlingly, is neither tall nor small (same as lumumba, cross, howe and grimes) and he is a shocking user of the ball - he 'sits' on it rather than distributing quickly and cleanly and he turns it over far too often. he also no longer rebounds from half-back.

howe is younger and offers far more flexibility in terms of playing forward and, preferably, back. he also rebounds really well when positioned defensively.

we simply cannot go into next season with garland, howe, lumumba, grimes, cross all as 'third / fourth tall' defenders. they don't do enough.

I have a feeling we'll be looking at some FAs of our own this year, so that 2nd round pick may not be a given. If we were to lose him and pick up another FA, it may well cancel out altogether.

The usual suspects will be considered for moving on, M Jones, Bail, Terlich. Looks like it may be over for Jamar and we may see Toumpas offered up for trade - unless he turns it around soon.

Roos/coaching team will want to see what Stretch, ANB and Harmes have to offer for the future before deciding on which way to go at trading/drafting - how long will it be before they are high production mids?). They will want to assess the chances of Trengove re-establishing his career. Don't forget fit and in form he can play inside and outside to a high standard. Petracca is another player who likely can come in and have an immediate impact in the midfield as well as forward.

If all these players can come up then our midfield should be ok.

Given the number of young players on our list I would favour either a trade for an established gun high production mid or if we cannot attract one use our pick on a young KPF (risking one is available at our pick). We probably need a young KPF to come through.

What I didn't like was the stopping each time he got the ball, the poor disposal that then followed and the fact that 4 times he failed to retard Hooker, who he had hold of and then let him just run away with the ball and set up a score for the Bombers.

We can't go into next season with all 4 of Garland, Howe, Cross and Grimes, right?

Howe - Likely gone at end of season

Cross - May retire this year, will definitely be rested if he plays on next year

Grimes - Garland is far better than, otherwise Grimes would be in the side

But by all means, get rid of Garland.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
