He gets a quick massage out on the ground before he starts training every time, must be part of the routine, was bouncing around at training, got the usual arm breaking handshake when I congratulated him on his debut

Think even he was unsure as to whether he could cut it at AFL level, got better as they game went on, think we will see a step up this weekend

I tend to agree with this. He is certainly not confident yet as you would expect. Even his comment in his presser (paraphrased) that he thought he lowered his colours to his opponent on the weekend. He currently will be an asset in his role but wait until the penny drops and he is confident out there.

Yes having someone as experienced and smart as Chris Dawes around him will be a huge boost for Hogan. IMHO I think the "three towers" of Dawes, Hogan and Watts will be so much more effective together than seperately. Dawes will mean he will have the number 1 tall defender, and each of a Hogan and Watts opponent will go down one notch in seniority and skill. In addition, we now have Garlett, and a rejuvenated JKH at their feet. Should be exciting to watch.

In this clip, all three goals come from horrible kicks too. One from an opposition defender that he chopped off, one kick over his head from Matt Jones that required his best to mark, and a rainmaker from Howe where he drew a free kick while 2 on 1. He gets a hard time for dropped marks on here, but cripes we do him no favours in the way we get it to him.

Next time perhaps ease off with the diatribe though, TSFKA. There's no need for it.

So Saty can you tell us more about training itself, rather than telling us about the questions you asked the players?

We got one line of "ball movement and stoppages the focus" - did you pay any attention to who lined up where, any indication from training itself if Dawes and/or Vince are in line for an immediate call up etc? Can you elaborate more on the actual training itself?

Are there any reports about Cam Pedersen? I am becoming more and more curious about him. I thought he was pretty good last year. His contested marking and long distance goal accuracy were valuable.

Together with Jetta, I considered him to have shown the greatest improvement under Roos last year. He said all the right things about why he had improved and I was hoping that he might get even better this year. However since Merritt broke his nose he has become the invisible man in training despatches, and also in Casey games lately.

It is only round 1, but it is starting to bring to mind Mitch Clisby, who made a promising debut in 2013 only to disappear without trace in 2014.

Am I missing something or is there a chance that Roos has made up his mind about him, given that this is the last year of his contract?

I thought Pederson did better than expected last year too, but Frost is 6 years younger, a little bigger and very fast, so it seems he's considered an upgrade as 2nd ruck, so Peders is suddenly almost forgotten.

On Pedersen, after watching every training session during the pre season was shocked when he fell out of the picture, not sure what is going on, he trained strongly again today, doesn't seem an issue with his attitude or anything, but the list of guys who appeared last year and will have to fight their way back in is getting longer.

I'm shocked he didn't get a look in early as I think I read somewhere him quoting it's the best pre season he's completed and he is the fittest he has been.

Pedersen is too one dimensional. He either clunks a good mark, or he's pretty useless. He's an old-fashioned type more suited to 70/80's football. He's no dud, but when the ball hits the ground ground he's of no real value.

Frost is fast and aggressive and a better pinch hitter in the ruck. Dawes and Pedersen are competing and Dawes plays the hard leading workhorse role better even though Pedersen is a better mark.

I think it's all about depth. We now have a bunch of options in pretty much every position, and it's going to be tough for some guys to force their way into the side while everyone is fit and firing.
