Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pedersen is too one dimensional. He either clunks a good mark, or he's pretty useless. He's an old-fashioned type more suited to 70/80's football. He's no dud, but when the ball hits the ground ground he's of no real value.

Frost is fast and aggressive and a better pinch hitter in the ruck. Dawes and Pedersen are competing and Dawes plays the hard leading workhorse role better even though Pedersen is a better mark.

Wonderful critique, before you make a sweeping statement, have a look at Pedersen's stats, I know some don't value stats but his for a big forward, especially tackles and pressure acts are good

Frost after one game where he had a minimal amount of time in the ruck, agree he is fast and aggressive and he did some good things, but please

I think it's all about depth. We now have a bunch of options in pretty much every position, and it's going to be tough for some guys to force their way into the side while everyone is fit and firing.

This is the reality of the Pedersen situation

I also thought Pedersen was pretty good last year but I thought he did sometimes go missing during games. It's definitely between him and Frost at selection and I am very keen on Frosts speed and aggression at the ball, although I think Pedersen is a better mark and kick.

Anyone have the weird problem of Pedersen being put in [brackets] automatically?

I think this new-found depth is the key! In previous years we have all gone into panic when we have had two injuries in a match. Now we are all wondering who to drop to allow Vince and Dawes to come into the team for Round 2. As long as we don't get two many LTIs to our key position players we should fare better than last year when we were without Clarke and Hogan (& Dawes) for the first Round and had a make-shift forward line (Frawley and Pederson) for the remainder of the year.

This year, so far, Petracca (& Trengrove?) is the only (potential) star missing from our midfield/forward structure through LTI but we are able to cover.

You actually have no idea. wow. He regularly throws his weight around, bumping, harassing, yapping etc. Have you actually watched him play?

Yes he has done some dirty things, but to say that the opposition wouldn't fear him if they see him coming, OR standing in front to block etc. is just so so dumb.

I'm shocked by how stupid you are. You CLEARLY have never seen him play, so here you go:

We can absolutely criticise Dawes for his "hands" at times - he does get into good positions and drop marks he shouldn't. What can't be faulted is his hardness - his willingness to tackle, split packs, block, shepherd, chase, create stoppages. His 1% er's are what makes him a valuable footballer.

It's not a problem. It's only automatic when, as often happens, his name is misspelt with an "o" instead of the second "e". Next stop "Gartlett". Respect, blokes.

I agree, but apparently some don't. (*cough mos64 cough*) I struggle to think what game some on here watch at times.

the brackets are way more annoying than a minor mis-spelling

The best was Gary Lyons

On a related note, it annoys me no end the way commentators pronounce Vlaustin, as if it were spelled Vlaustone. Grrrr

That is how it is pronounced, according to the man himself. I was annoyed by the same thing, so I Googled it and found one of his tweets.

Funny, it crossed my mind during the game that maybe they'd checked, but then I dismissed that idea and concluded I was definitely right!

I'm not complaining, we had nearly 40 players out there again today, all fit, I spoke to Jack Grimes, he said the guys who missed out are all determined to get back in, there is no sulking

On another point, think the days of Fitzy the forward are over, spoke to a few of the 'Casey' players from the weekend, he had another solid game in defence, spoke to the man himself and he is feeling more and more comfortable back there.

I love moves like this. If he can become a decent FB/ruck option we have a long-term depth or better player in the wings.

Well, for the next several years a reasonable 200cm defender will be handy against the likes of Daniher & Boyd & Cameron, who will grow too big & strong for T-Mac & Dunn.

Correct. Just a bit of light hearted fun with the word censor I put on place a while ago.

Pedersen waiting for a spot to open up through injury or suspension I reckon. If one of our key backs goes down I think it will be Frost into the backline and Pedo in as forward 2nd ruck.

As others have said, 'tis a marvellous position to be in isn't it?

Doubt it. Hasn't done any training with the ruck coaches, so why would you think that he's a potential 2nd ruck?

Pedersen is in the same boat as a few others. He would have to show amazing form at Casey to even be considered for senior selection. His omission from the 2 NAB Cup games is a sign that he's not part of Roos' plans. He's a player with some natural talent, but doesn't seem to have the competitive spirit to be an AFL player.

Sorry Nasher mate, the commentators get it wrong every week. They always make it sound like 'vloss'- tin, instead of 'floss'- tone.

I can't comment how they "always" do it because I don't watch Richmond that much, but the other night they were definitely saying "floss-stone". That is what prompted me to look it up, because I thought they'd lost the plot.

Yes and fitzy has more speed than any of them including i suggest Frost, particularly in the first 20 meters. And like a lot of large forwards, they seem to get a great education for better forward plays by spending time in defence following A grade forwards around. Think David Neitz. He learnt so quickly that "Duck" Carey said he was the best tall defender he ever played on, then went back to the forward line and smashed them.

Yes, the more i think about it the more i think Fitz down back might well be another one of those Roosy smart moves.

You don't have the benefit of listening to SEN.

How his name was pronounced was discussed ad nauseum in the days after he was drafted.

Or it could simply be that this is a last ditch attempt to save his career. He hasn't worked as a forward and he hasn't worked in the ruck.... so they've thrown him down back as he has nowhere else to go.

I'm happy to see the club shift players around and not rest on their laurels, but Fitzy is no David Neitz. He will need to do something unbelievably special to get another contract from here, which if he somehow produces will be fantastic, but I don't see it happening.

We should have floated Fitzy to the dogs last trade period. Not good enough to fit in the forward line, no room in the backline, in fact, no room to squeeze him anywhere. He's toast.

There is a thing called "depth"... a couple of injuries and he may well be required. Then again, I suppose there are those of us who need a "whipping boy" even when the future is looking brighter than it has been for a while.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin ventured down to Gosch's Paddock to bring you his observations from this morning's Captain's Run including some hints at the changes for our ANZAC Eve clash against the Tigers. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
