The thing that must be taken into consideration with Tappscott is his lack of a preseason. Hell, the kid has hardly had a 2 month stretch where he was injury free in his career to date.

Wow! That old chestnut?

One more preseason....

Just one more preseason.....

Yeah, Nah. What I've seen in the games that he's played hasn't made me believe that it's a lack of fitness that he can't get enough of the ball - he's good enough to get drafted, but not to stay on a list.

Ahhh the The Colin Sylvia syndrome.

The Golden ticket to non-performance as C& B says....

So the question is, why hasn't Tappy been delisted yet? Beginning to suspect he won't be.

South Australian Mafia connections.

The underlying theme amongst all the recruits is Melbourne recruited them.

I find it hard to believe that we got them all wrong, and the fact that we have been unable to develop anyone says more about us than the individuals.

These guys put faith faith that club knows best how to train and develop them.

If players are commenting on 'how hard it is at another club' then Melbourne is the problem, not the players.

If anyone thinks they're not trying their guts out, then seek help.

But Misson has been in charge of fitness and conditioning and has been at MFC for some time now. He is supposedly very good at what he does? He has been at Sydney and St Kilda when they were contending. So why would our players be so far off the fitness levels of other teams?

When Neeld got the clubs preseason sheets from before he was at the club,A friend of mine{nameless}said he nearly died of heart failure when he realised our club did over 35% less than at Collingwood.

Forget whether or like Mn or not, this statement is very heartbreaking for us and those who were here at the time.

Then between the two of them (DM and MN) they decided to spend months on end of our players largely running 300m sprints and also put the disclaimer in that it would take 3 preseasons to get the guys up to scratch.

There's was a noticeable difference with Roos in charge this year in how much footy training the players did almost from the first day of preseason. Sessions went longer under Roos but with many more drills including grappling and close in handballing drills as well as getting the repeat running in long drills.

I see ideas in here to manipulate Trengove or Jetta onto the Rookie list or delist contracted players McKenzie and Evans who worked their way up from the Rookie list just so we can take ND53!

Ideas from people who know the price of everything but the value of nothing.

Ideas I do not agree with.

Maybe they're waiting to see what going to happen with Trengove before they make a move.

I always hoped he would do well, Tappy, but started to think this year that It might just all be beyond him.

The only scenario that would be valuable to delisting Evans would be if we could convince Newton into the PSD or someone of his ilk.

There would have to be a scenario of lightning striking twice with the previous scenario for McKenzie to be delisted and rookied.

There is no good scenario of Trengove being delisted and rookied. Only an unlikely premature retirement would be the most likely of unlikely scenarios.

There is no sane scenario of Jetta to be re-rookied.

I have said scenario a great deal...

Scenario.

We used that one with Sylvia for a while too. How old is Tappy now? 23? I just can't see him making it.

You may not agree with the idea but "manipulation" is a strong term given that it should only be done with the full agreeement of Jack Trengove on the basis that his contract is fully honoured given that he would otherwise most likely spend 2015 on the sidelines and on the LTI.

"Manipulation" is what the club was trying to do with Jack when it was involved in the attempt to "shop" him off to Richmond and, even in that situation, there were many who agreed that if it was in the interests of the club and the player, it was an acceptable thing to do and not only that, but that it's part and parcel of the way things are going in football today.

I don't agree with delisting Jordie McKenzie and placing him on the rookie list. There's no reason to do so and he has an established record at the club. With Nev Jetta, it's already been announced that we intend to uplift him to the primary list and I see no reason why that shouldn't happen.

As for delisting Michael Evans with the promise of being rookied (and again honouring the last year of his contract), it's not as if we're creating a precedent in the AFL. Evans is a long way off the mark as far as gaining a place in our senior team is concerned. He has worked his way up once and he would have a further challenge to do it again but that's the reality of life in the big league.

Finally, I don't suggest doing anything "just so we can take ND53" but rather, if the club has a specific target in mind for a player in the PSD, as a DFA or if it has strong reason to believe that a player it requires who would add value to the list would be available at 53 then it would be a win-win situation for all concerned if all parties are happy with the arrangement.

I looked up David Williams who played with us in the late 80's. Wikipedia said we traded him to the Tigers and then he did his knee - but my memory is otherwise. He did his knee - we delisted him with a promise that we would pick him in the PSD if he got through preseason. But Richmond used an early pick to nab him.

edit - on researching I looked at the 1989 draft - we were horrible at drafting even then ( our biggest haul was predraft of Stephen Clark from Essendon who played 21 games for us - the balance 4 players played a total of 3 games for us !!) but the Eagles in that draft took predraft - Ryan turnbull 129 games, traded in Wilson 117 games, pick 4 matera 253 games, pick 40 Dean Irving 43 games, pick 64 Evans 108 games, pick 92 Heady - 156 games, pick 112 McIntosh - 256 games !!!!! get me this recruiting team !!!!

Speaking of which remember the Cockatto-Collins twins David and Don early 90's?

There is no subtlety about Tappys game. The battering ram approach won't cut it at senior level. You need poise, lateral movement and good vision and I'm afraid they are qualities he badly lacks.

I never did.

Not with Sylvia.

I did last year with Jetta and was laughed at.

Fair enough.

He has red hair?

Nothing wrong with that Machsy, I don't care if our players have faces like a dog licking pi55 off a nettle as long as they can play or maybe have some mongrel about them to help out the team.

Been plenty of good fanta's in the history of our game

Truscott, The Great Norm Smith, Brereton, Hardie, Stoneham, Mcgrath, McKenna, Bewick, Voss, Leppitsch, Aker & Roughie

3aw reporting Blease a 1 year contract with Geelong.

Great if Bleasey is recruited. Good for him and it provides more data for our incessant discussion about poor drafting versus poor development. Look forward to seeing how he goes.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
