Evans is being underestimated here. I believe he has considerable upside should he get a free run from injury. He showed glimpses last year. Im looking forward to seeing him come on under Paul Roos

Agree. Blease plays pretty and it is exciting to see plus his potential can look limitless at times. Evans isn't so pretty but he finds the footy much more and has good disposal.

Evans will make it, Blease could, bit inconsistent though.

Strauss no chance.

Bail and Jetta slight chance.

Not sure about Nicho, he is a shocking kick.

Bit of an insult to Evans to lump him in with those spuds.

Lynden Dunn for me fits this group, he seems to have become a very solid player for us but at the end of last year i seriously wondered if he would be kept on, the extra year on his contract probably saved him

I want peoples opinions on this group of players, and who will take the next step under Roos and become a regular consistent player in 2014, not fading in and out of games.

Sam Blease

Rohan Bail

Michael Evans

James Strauss

Dan Nicholson

Neville Jetta

I could have added a few more but the microscope will be on these players. Who do you think steps up?

If I am not mistaken many are on the final year of contracts and will be pushing to play good footy.

Personally from what I've seen, I think Bail has no choice, if he wants to stay in the system he has to step up this year. I liked what I saw from Evans last year, and I think is more a half forward than a midfielder..

Will be interesting to see who will thrive off having more midfield support.

I posed this question early in the year.

Obvious leaders going into round 11 are Rohan Bail and Neville Jetta

Bail has played all year and been rather consistent, while Jetta has been an obvious improver.

What are your thoughts 11 rounds in?

I'm thrilled that Bail and Jetta have found their place in the side after years of inconsistant appearances but it's disappointing that first round draft picks lick Blease and Strauss haven't pushed for selection yet. Strauss especially is running on thin ice and needs to show something in the next 2-3 months.

Blease, Strauss and Nicholson are on the proverbial gallows with nooses in place. Bail is firmly cemented in the 22, and Jetta is playing good footy. The only question mark in the list is Evans, who has another year to run on his contract anyway, so he's got plenty of time.

Bail and Jetta were excellent today.

Bail will just run all day, he is a bit of dark horse is Bail.

Could keep improving from here on in.

I know he wasn't on the original list but Cam Pederson aka the Pedotrain has got them all covered. Jetta, a lot will give credit to Roos but he played a breakout game in defence against the Dogs last year (the last game 2013) and has carried that over into this season. It's great to see Bail playing good footy after all those concussions.

I've always liked Nev but I honestly thought he wouldn't make it after being dropped to Rookiedom. I'm thrilled that he's going so well now that he's bee promoted and is holding down a regular spot in the backline. He's showing courage, a bit more speed than I thought he had and some good disposal. He could be the answer to the small defender spot that's been vacant since we lost Bartram.

Bail too has shown a big improvement in his disposal. He was always a running machine and a ballwinner, but the fact that he is now hurting teams on the scoreboard has made him a genuinely valuable player. I think we have to also give a nod to Jack Watts for working with him on his kicking given the results we're seeing.

Totally agree here. After last year I was disgusted with the trade to bring Pedo into the club. He seemed to be an utter waste of space on our list. Now he's become a genuine threat, is consistently taking contested marks and scoring and is useful pinch-hitting in the ruck. Massive turn around for him, and I think massive congratulations to him for the obvious work he's put in to get fitter and stronger over the off-season.

Somehow there has been a massive change in some players, and Jetta, Bail & Pederson are classics. They are now genuine contributors.

We seem to forget that Bail was going really well until he was injured 2 years ago . He has now got his confidence back. Isn't it good to see players persevere and we change our opinions of them .

You could add improvers like Matt Jones and Tommy Mac which is giving our side depth.

Don't give up on Evans yet. Plus Nicholson can run the pants off a Kangaroo, just needs to finish his work off. Jetta seems to have pinched his spot though .

One game in five years can hardly be considered a wonderful tally Moonshadow.

Puts his highlights reel right up there with Pedersen.

I hope you are right because we have invested a lot in a guy who so far has a few good games beside his name.

He has 2014 to prove that he is more than the "occasional Player" IMO

How things have changed in 10 weeks (re Pedersen, but unfortunately not Blease, who looks a long long way from even getting a game.

I think bail and jetta are already right on the cusp.
Evo for me, he can do it.
I hope tappy can add himself to that list and make it but time is against him.

I didn't mind Blease in the NAB challenge, but obviously wouldn't get a spot in the side from that.

Tapscott is a certain delist at seasons end imo, unless he can do something drastic.

It's important to evaluate the players correctly.

There's a small bunch of people who have long been adamant that Jetta had the ability to play in a good side.

The majority of posters were putt off by his relative lack of quickness and limited game.

But, Jetta showed a Swiss-army like versatility that a good side could use.

It's no use putting guys into b,c,d categories...rather consider a simple binary...can they contribute to a good side over a season? Yes/no.

Most good teams need +30 contributors over a year. Jetta is a clear yes for most now, Evans is a bit of a poor man's M. Jones but still a yes. A guy like Tapscott will probably be better in a lot of ways then Evans, but not totally sure could contribute to a good side. Nicholson - no

Tapscott reminds me of Johny Tilbrook. Similar name, similar build, similar profile.

The Pedotrain is a horrible nickname...

We must be talking about the other bail in the team. The Bail I've been watching has been a solid contributor and well improved. If I'm correct he kicked 2 goals today and had 20 touches.

I actually thought ol' diamond was destroyed by bad coaching and development, Funny that he then ran a development squad for the club.

Isn't it wonderful what Roos can do.

Last year Jetta looked horrible, was OK at VFL level, but nothing more. His first match for us this year was another "why did we even bother with him again" (pretty sure it was against Adelaide, I might be mistaken), but ever since, he's something different. Kept Wingard quiet today (until obviously injured), and there's just something different about him now. Looks a much different player, both him and Bail have been great for us and should both give themselves pats on their backs.

M Jones is another I have hopes for too, not the best player by a mile, but his first half today was absolutely great. Tried to take the game on but got caught a few times, which is frustrating yes, but at least he is having a go.

Then we have boys like JKH, Salem, Tyson, Viney, Toump, Michie, etc, who have all shown us that they will be absolute champions.

The Pedotrain probably wasnt on the list because we all thought he was so goddamn awful, and would never make the grade. Im am absolutely speechless when it comes to his transformation.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
