Dont know if anyone cares and dont mean to derail the thread though I thought it was worth a mention.

Petterd shines in Richmonds intra-club game off half-back.

Still wish we persisted with the kid.

I

He started on the Half-Back for us, and I always liked him there, but it is worth remembering that Maric was flying for the Tigers in the preseason when he left us as well.

:(

I truly hate reading stuff like this. Petterd was one of my faves for better or worse. Oh well, good luck to him at the Tiges. Will be interesting to see how he goes if they do intend on playing him at the opposite end of the ground when the real stuff rolls around.

Are you sure about this quote, Demonland?

"Are you Mark Jamar is back to his best. He is jumping off the ground again, unlike last year, and gave Spencer an absolute bath in the ruck. Sadly, Spencer still is not concentrating on the ball, despite his enormous height advantage, and apart from a good single mark, he did not touch the ball in general play or at ruck contests. By that I mean he did not touch the ball …"

I am not sure if you were watching the same game as me but Jamar was nowhere near his best, and in front of me was beaten three times in the air by Spencer in one-on-one ruck contests. Also, Jamar did nothing around the ground where Spencer at least ran forward, gave 2nd and 3rd attempts, went for marks and presented.

I can remember watching Pencils awkward kicking style at least 3 times, but reckon there were a few more.

Big Max was there.

Taggert a lovely goal was about 30 meters, was sitting just near man on mark.

Baffled that we would lock a thread with 5 or 6 thorough match reports to send everyone to a thread with one. Seriously...

Re: Don’t expect too much from Aaron Davey this year. While his delivery is simply sublime when he has it in his hands, he has simply lost the yard necessary to make the electrifying moves of years past. He was unable to open space between himself and his opponent constantly, and barely touched the ball. A loose bouncing ball in the goal-square would have been a certain 6 pointer years ago, but today only resulted in a scrimmage and ball-up.

Last year the opposition would have swept the ball out of the backline and kicked a goal, so a ball up is not such a bad result... he will still add great value with his delivery... small steps...

Hard working out the new players seeing that all bar one of the 14 new faces were out there and a handful of others have changed numbers.

Still not hard to work out Jack Viney, Jimmy Toumpas and the Hulkamaniac.

Dean Kent and Matt Jones look like they will add a bit of spice to the midfield.

I wasn't sure about Byrnes and Rodan but its clear they will play a bigger role than I thought when we recruited them. They won't be long term members of the team but if they give great service for 2-3 years, they should see us into a period of significant improvement.

Watching Mark Neeld's press conference, I couldn't help but notice the top he was wearing, which looked like a direct swap of the guernsey colours (ie navy yoke above red). Is that a subtle bit of pressure to replace the away strip with a blue-and-red one? (ie swap the red and blue, but otherwise keep it all the same). If so, here's hoping ...

Who says we're not immune from criticism.

We've taken RGRS's point on board and merged the threads.

George's article is also on our features and articles board as well ... and it's probably timely toi welcome George on board and thank him for hisDemonland debut article.

Cheers folks and it's good to have the footy back.

are we talking horizontal or vertical?

That was with his half-cousin, which is still considered Kosher in some parts of Italy and Tassie, perhaps Romsey.

Dancing with my sister is uncomfortable for me mainly because she is a big fat ugly thing and she stinks.

Apart from the futility of it, she accuses me of "[censored]-blocking" her.

So now we leave her at home when we go to the disco.

Can anyone remember last year's intraclub match at Casey? We ended with about 26 guys on the ground, and our game tactic consisted of getting the ball and kicking it along the boundary line.

This year we had enough for two full teams of 18, and there was a little more sophistication about our ball movement. The defence was working hard free up the kicker with a series of handpasses. There was more emphasis on Team, with players spreading and providing backup. They did cross the ball too, but mostly in conservative mode (from half back or pocket to the other half back, using a free man as the link). The moonball kick out of defence wasn't as prevalent, but is still used if you've got a boot like Dunn and Strauss.

Neeld said at the GM that supporters will notice the players running harder for longer, and that seemed the case. The guys were working hard to offer the kicker a target - usually a target that only required a short safe delivery. Both sides were limited by the absence of our two key forwards, but at least we had a good small option in Byrnes.

Out disposal is still a bit iffy and Jones (not Matt) was one of the offenders, although in fairness he does get the ball a lot. I don't think he will have the 'post-Bluey Truscott medal' blues, unlike the previous 3 winners. A special note about Jetta. He's fit and did some good things on the flanks.

Good to see the support there. And hello to Rob, the chiropractor from San Francisco, who was watching his first ever practice match yesterday. He's an ex Aussie and long time supporter who watches all the matches on cable. Great to see you there.

The bulldogs gave me both hope and fear last night. A bit of me thought well at least if we get Clark and Dawes out there together we will have tall targets and our kicking can't be worse than the doggies.

Then I realised nothing can shock me with how bad Melbourne can be and they at least have Boyd, Griffen and Cooney for some spark in the midfield.

Still I'm looking forward to watching us next week to see if we can be at all sharp with our ball winning and movement whilst also pressuring the opponents. That's what you want to see from NAB cup.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
