I was ecstatic when we picked up Luke for he had all the attributes we so desperately needed- Big, tough, brave- a booming kick and displayed forward nous.. I feel he is being wasted in the back line and hopefully with Grimes back and the emergence of Blease we can afford to play the big fella where we need him most: in the forward line.

This is as much of a Tapscott thread as it is a petition to move him forward. I see a spot for him as a midfield/forward- scaring the shite out of running defenders and bombing them from outside 50- ala Sylvia. Who's with me?

I'm optimistic of him getting his body right and becoming similar to Paul CHAPMAN, has the physical means just not sure about the rest of the package would be interested to see a comparison between the two of them at the same stage of their careers

The question is - do we want him frightening opposition backman or forwards ?

Either way is fine but there is something about a menacing forward ! Has he got a brother ?

Cheers

I was spewing that we picked up Gysberts instead of this guy. I was so stoked to see him fall to our next pick.

I think he is naturally a forward. Problem is that we have a lot of players demanding a spot in the forward line at the moment. I'm hoping he will be able to play forward/mid much like Sylvia does. I'm not expecting much from him at the start of this year due to his limited pre-season. I hope Misson can sort out these injury problems that so many of our youngsters keep having.

Posted

I agree Utah he is another player we want to be delivering the ball to our forwards. Like Sylvia he is best suited to a role that sees him working between to the 50m arcs linking our rebound to our attack on a wing or that High Half forward role, you would love being Clark, Watts and Jurrah if you can get the likes of Sylvia, Blease and Tapscott delivering the ball to you.

Posted

I am confident Neeld will move Tapscott to the half forward position and leave him there

Very dangerous forward like Jurrah but for different reasons

Has to learn to keep the umpires off his back with his actions or it will create a stigma that could curse his career

Using that power to benefit the team would be all Neeld needs to have a locked position for the next 10 plus years

Has Stewie Dew qualities

One of my favourite Demons to watch

What is happening with Tappy?

Did he play in the VFL last week?

Any chance for round 1?

Not sure where to put this, covers a lot of players in "The Locker Room", but is there any frigging chance we can get to see all these top draft picks that we've been working hard to get actually play in the same game? I'm talking basically;

Jones

Frawley

Grimes

Morton

Watts

Blease

Strauss*

Trengove

Gysberts

Tapscott*

Cook

(* Very early 2nd round picks)

We will struggle to win bulk games until all these blokes are on the field together. Relying on Pick 50's+, mature-age rookie selections, etc to take us to finals is not the answer.

A great start billy would be to have them all fit in the one week let alone year.

With Tapscott, the key will be whether he has a sufficient motor to play mid for spells. Certainly, would love to see him have a crack at playing forward

Posted

Exactly right, RTG.

Tapscott has some really good talent. He has great ball skills, is aggressive, wins hard footy and is a beautiful kick. But he hasn't really done a preseason yet due to injury. I'd love him in the midfield, but he hasn't done anywhere near enough running work in his time at Melbourne for this to be feasible. He hasn't yet, so he will be limited in the number of roles that he can play.

Posted

Play him off half forward with stints in the guts. A bit like Sylvia - maybe even rotate them..

Next year, hopefully with a genuine Missen preseason he may be ready for more time in the midfield.

BUMP

If this kid can build an absolute pristine engine in his tank of a body, he will be a significant player for Melbournefc. Re-sign him ASAP.

He can be an intimidating presence for the club, long term. Just what we need. Still only played very few games.

Posted

Starting to play some good football aswell! Liked his game on Saturday night, gave it a good crack, if he kicked that set shot it would have been awesome!

He is another one of our swing players, can play anywhere, took a few kick outs, took a mark inside 50, definitely helps the make up of our team

Posted

How long have we needed a mid-sized bloke who can kick and mark? Tappy is beginning to show both these skills and with his hard edge he could be a huge plus looking across the next 2 - 5 years. He is not only strong in his physique, but strong over the ball, string i na contest, and strong going for a mark.

Seing him, Watts, Blease, Nicho, T McDonald all playing together at last gave us a glimpse. I can't wait to see Davis, Cook, Gawn, Strauss, Viney and Gysberts added to this mix and for them to all play muliple games together.

Posted

Tank is still an issue obviously - saw him get it in the last quarter and he was willing the legs to go but they wouldn't and he got tackled. He was clearly absolutely spent. He got poleaxed a couple of times too - once by Fletcher where he went in to the fence (nasty) and once by Hurley while in the back half. Got straight up and on with it both times, and we know he can give it as good as he gets it.

Love this guy, but think it'll be a couple of seasons before he starts making an impact consistently. Byron Pickett with a work ethic...?

Felt a bit sorry Tappy tonight. Don't think he intended to hurt Fasolo as bad as he did.

Went into his shell for a few minutes afterwards but everyone was gunning for him and every kick he had was getting huge boos from the pies mob so he responded by going hard really back.

Know the feeling when you've got a whole team trying to get a cheap shot on you.

Other than that I think he's improving well as the season goes on. Huge strength but I think he's lacking a bit of balance at this stage, seems to get poleaxed a lot since he's always landing badly.

Big fan of Tappy.

im liking tappys aggression so far. i would leave him in for the rest of the year and let him build up some games and a good engine. missed the whole pre season so he is doing well now as it is.

Posted

Yeah I really like his game. We get slaughtered for being too soft and he is one of the hardest going around and neevr shirks a contest. Was maybe a bit cheap but he let the Pies know he was there today and cant fault that. Hope he saves some for Sc*lly though.

And what they did to Nicho was no worse so I couldnt give a **** about what Pies think, but man it was funny seeing Blair trying to act tough and stand up to him. only one winner there

I loved his aggression. Wish he could have cleaned up a few more. He got Maxwell near the boundary and Maxwell didn't really want to come back either. We need heaps more aggro exactly like it. And Blair was lucky he was on the field because tappy was about to throw him over the fence and thought better of it. I want to see us start punishing the opposition every way we can.

After the first five minutes I thought to myself "somebody start a fight ,somebody knock someone out"

Am I the only one who knows how to stop the scoreboard bleeding?

Dirty ,unsportsmanlike ,ungracious ,unadmirable attitude perhaps but I've had enough.

Victory isn't always pretty.

The best are rarely the fairest.

Is it fair that Wojo is running around for the Cats while Viney rests his Jaw?

Is it fair that Lynch punched his way to victory in his last game (whilst on roids)

F%CK FAIR!

Fair has nothing to do with it.

The holding ,blocking ,tackling(after disposal) , pushing and grabbing is what gets Collingwood over the line .

Wake up!

Winning isn't everything-it's the only thing. It's not a game of croquet with the boys from college.

We need EVERY advantage possible to ever have a hope of winning a flag.

Is it fair that Dean Wallis had a career?

Fair is for f%ckwits.

Keep fairness for your family and friends.

I like the fact that the Dees are playing a more spirited "unsociable" brand of footy recently. But, Luke Tapscott, WTF does he think he is doing? Fasolo annoys me as much as anyone but Tappy's attack on him was out of line. The attempt to launch Maxwell into the interchange bench was quite unhinged. If he continues to behave like this on the field he will be a very unpopular player. I would rather see him attack the ball with the same intent. Both Tappy and Silvia seemed intent on proving that they weren't pushovers. There's a better way to do this. Watch Jordie McKenzie.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
