Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

We need to manage a few if we're to have a decent crack at September.

Rest Hogan....or he's cooked. A no brainer really.

Personally I'd like to see Pedo in for Smith. Can at least understands the game.  Now is not about games into NOOBS...it's about assembling a finals team. Let's not cut off nose as they say.

I still think JKH is not up to it..

Some might suggest no change but I think it's imperative to give some a rest and tweak what is an imperfect line up.

If we're to do this...well... let's get serious mum ;)

i think we need to make September.. so play our best side. no resting for resting sake in my opinion. we make September we get 1 weeks rest before the first week of finals. Dont make september.. they can rest all they like.

We have some pretty good players to come back who could make an impact finals .

Viney

Hibberd

Hunt

Vanders

Maybe Kent if he can hit form.

Definitely Kent in that mix - he's ready again.

We need to play the best possible side this week and if it means Hogan is 75-80% fit, then he plays. Apparently no AFL player is 95%-100% fit and healthy at this stage of the year anyway.

We need to take this game as seriously as any other on the run home. We need to win by at least 10 goals to:

1) Negate Hawthorn's 10 goal win yesterday;

2) Ward off Geelong as they have 2 very easy games at kardina Park the last 2 weeks.

One thing to bear in mind is that although we won against the Crows by no means did we play well.

We had a great scoring burst late in the third quarter that won us the match. Two lucky goals.. one to Melksham and the free to Hogan. I'm not complaining about the win. After losing games where we dominated or were relatively even we deserved some luck.

If we are going to play Smith we need to give him instructions to lay the ball off to a designated nearby kicker. Similarly he needs to have killing the ball as his first priority.

Each of Garlett, Spargo and JKH have something to commend them but the fact is we are not getting enough out of the sum of those three players. On the other hand the cupboard is not exactly bursting open at VFL level. A case can be made for Kent and AVB as players who might just deliver that bit extra. I will trust the selection committee but I hope they consider the team balance long and hard and not just go the easy path and reward the incumbents for being part of a winning team.

Hogan and Petracca are vital to the next six weeks as is Brayshaw maintaining his purple patch of form. Get the first two to improve by 50% and we can really dare to dream.

Always been an AVB fan but people need to recall,  previously he was struggling to hold his place in the team. Not sure if this was due to the injury that put him out though

agree very much but he may just give that balance we need. A very hard call.

Would hope the VFL guys had a hard hit out over the weekend. That ill scheduled bye does no one any favours.

Smith is sort of the mini me version of Frost - some athletic abilities that few possess but it’s edge-of-your-seat time when he has the ball in hand. If he could sort out his disposal skills he could be fantastic. Big if though

That is the big if, needs to be a much better ball user. We're hardly laden with good delivery out of defensive 50.

JKH stays in. Played a good game. Some people on here are blind, fair dinkum.

Smith is a bit more in the gun. Loved his endeavour and physicality, but his disposal might mean he loses his spot.

Hunt is no chance to come in. Wasn't even in the 22 before he got hurt, and wasn't knocking the door down in the VFL before then. Demonland is slowly getting more daft.

Correct. We sometimes raise the ability of those outside the team beyond their actual level.

Which mid sized fwds have been playing well at Casey? Hammy issue for someone in the 1s I’ve heard.

Tommy bugg has been consistently in the best, surprisingly he can kick a set shot in vfl. Vanders has come back strong and kent is working his way back into form, although he always seem to step up in the ones. It will hurt if its melksham because none of those players can create opportunities for others like he can. If its spargo or garlett it would have to be bugg for his tackling avb a chance if its petracca straight swap for avb.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
