Oliver would have been on earlier if Swans kicked straight.  Rotations usually happen after goals, or when there is a stoppage is on the wing near the gates. The ball didn't leave their 50 for so long, that no rotation was 'possible' under the rotation rules.  Players often get caught on the bench for longer stretches than planned due to this.

To me that is the issue - that rotations are locked into set plays and the rules are self imposed and inflexible.

You would think when a key player is stuck on the bench the runner would go out to get at least a player over to the bench side of the ground to make the change.  There's a chance of a numbers mismatch for a minute but that seems a small risk if it means getting a key player on the ground.  Some flexibility is needed, I feel.

I don't like what Bugg did. He'll deserve to go for weeks.

But I can't help thinking of early Hawthorn under Clarkson - "unsociable football" - don't mind that tag too much. 

But last night we got belted - we're not tough enough yet. When Max went down, no-one came back at them.

Yeah and it can come back. Was it Robert Harvey that jumped off a high brick wall straight onto concrete so that he could snap the tendon that causes it? Think it was, not sure how hes walking these days tho...

True, but we all know the outcome if it doesn't work out.  If we deviate from the plan and we run someone off it could give them an extra number around the contest and potentially a scoring opportunity while Oliver tries to get towards the action.  If we had a few ball ups or throw ins on that side of the ground then it may have given him a chance, but we've got no idea who he was replacing and how they wanted to make it happen.

Swans kicking for goal was a bit of an anomaly so I don't think we can be too critical of what happened.

Not sure if anyone watches the Sunday footy show; but apparently Matthew Lloyd gave us a massive bake. Had a go at Hogan, Lewis and Bugg for their hits and Clarry for his social media. Also said we had achieved nothing and we're arrogant and getting ahead of ourselves.

Didn't see it myself but apparently Tony Jones stuck up for us and things got quite heated.

Regardless of the result I think we'll benefit from the experience on the big stage under Friday night lights. We'll definitely be better for it and almost certainly win our next one.

End of a horror run in regards to turnarounds, happy to be 3-1 after those 4 games. Happy to take that given our injury toll over that time as well. 

If we can get 1-2 key players back per week over the next month, and not lose any more to injury, there is plenty to look forward to come the back end of the year!

Need to lock down Docherty, Gibbs and Simpson this week.

i didn't watch the replay for the first time this year, we need some energy coming into the side and some good luck with our run of injuries, I agree HBD we really need to pay very close attention to Docherty, Gibbs & Simpson this week. Go Dee's!!!
