Not sure that will help.

At least two knocks I can recall were out wide and one was a footy kicked into the back of his head.

Most concussions I believe occur when players are moving at pace and the head is hit, or when falling from a mark or slung to the ground.

Those are less likely to occur close in to the stoppage.

Strange, given that Mahoney was interviewed during the first week and said he thought he was a good chance to play that week,

Would love to see Brayshaw back in form at MFC. Key part of our future. I see him as a rotating mid coming off the bench. Though needs 2-3 weeks at Casey first.

He looked so promising during his rookie season. I just want to see him string some games together and see what he can produce.

Yes. Even though he probably needs to get his head right (literally) with a few cautious games at Casey.

I definitely think once he's fit the club really invests some senior time for him and find him a role where he can play consistent footy.

One of our most important players if we're to get to Saint Kilda's level.

I didn't really pick up on what Mark said. It was along the lines that getting knocked out was different from getting a concussion - implying the latter was more serious.

I gather the incident at the start of the practice game last year resulted in a concussion, whereas the incident where Gus copped the ball in the back of his head (?) knocked him out. Then again, Mark did say his wife could no longer watch Angus play for fear of him getting injured, BTW mark is still a North supporter (who he played with).

Casey seems to be Concussion Central - less likely to get whacked in the firsts

We really need Gus up and firing, he brings a lot to the table when fit and healthy. Lets hope he gets a clear run at it at Casey, however, head high tackles in the VFL seem more predominant than in AFL. Thomas was lucky to get off with 3. Good luck Gus.!!!

Yep I agree.  The fact that we'd be putting him up for trade, or willing to listen to offers, would scare teams off given his history of head knocks.

Gus is perhaps a little like Salem. Last year we wondered whether he could overcome the thyroid problem or should we just cut our losses. We backed the medical team and now we have a good player.

Same with Gus.. the upside is very high... trade for a second round and we are most likely to end up with an average player at best and moreover  it will take that player two years to hit a reasonable peak. Okay we could trade for a third year player but we would get a "soldier type player" at best.

Gus gets this year and next to show his wares.

Hard to justify on the back of his form in the Carlton game. We have been carrying way too many players this year who haven't been performing. It's one of the reasons we've had such a bad start. Unfortunately the Weid was given a good run but was a waste of an important player. Pedersen should have been there. Hannan, T Smith, JKH. All getting games but giving the team nothing.

You don't necessarily run into form in the firsts. Sometimes it's much better to find form at VFL level where the game is played at a slower pace and you can work on deficiencies and confidence. 

 

Fingers crossed he comes good. His best in his first year was very exciting. We desperately need him firing.

If the current situation continues we would be lucky.

If he improves then he won't be on the table. However sometimes players just see that a change of team might improve their luck. He might have his hand up come August.

I get the feeling Brayshaw is going down the Trengove road. I just can't see things changing for a guy who seems is having regular concussion issues now going on for two seasons. The more he plays in the future the more he is going to have to take head knocks and the potential for further damage.

He won't be traded, so I'd say it's irrelevant

My favourite current player. His attack on the ball and player is footy at his best. And although his kicking efficiency has decreased and needs some work, he is one player who can play at full pace and impact contests. He is a cut or two above JKH, Hannan, Bugg and others who we are currently working through. I hope he makes a full recovery and gets back to his best. Wing sounds like a good option, but no player can play completely as an outside player; look how Jetta from the Swans is failing at the Eagles.

I compare Brayshaws first couple of years to Scott Thompson. In four years with the Dees Thompson careers was just littered with injuries and form and could barely get on the park.

He played 39 games in 4 years. After he got traded to the crows Thommo had a break out year in his 5th year and played the whole season.

Brayshaw is in the exact same spot and currently on 31 games who's also had his career filled with injuries and form. I can see him coming back in the AFL over the next couple of weeks and playing a good stretch of games.

I too also think Brayshaw will make huge strides next year and we'll show the AFL world why we took him high in the draft. The trade talk is just plain silly and ridiculous.
