Got tired of being censored and banned. Exciting draft for us this year hey? Langford excites me more than any draftee over the past decade. Those hands! Foot skills and footy I.Q from XL. Adds something that's been missing from our midfield. And our footy department recognizes that we have too many bruise free players in our forward line. I'm hoping that Aidan Johnson plays round 1. We've needed a head-cracker for a long time.11 points

Moore leads with the knee deliberately. He ended the seasons of two players this year with that action. As Macca says, the other one suffered fractured vertebrae, which could have left him paralysed. He's a dog of the highest order. As for Maynard, you will never convince me that an athlete capable of catching and moving on a ball in a fraction of a second didn't have time to register the contact (especially given he was the one who caused it) and react. You can clearly see that Brayshaw saw him coming and tried to catch him. In the same time, Maynard chose to turn and lead with his shoulder. That wasn't bracing for impact, it was a choice to hurt someone. So yes I would be thrilled if they both had opponents jumping knee-first into their backs all day. Maybe that would prompt the AFL to do something about players leading with the knee.11 points

How are things in Camberwell today, Chris? You might want to read my post again, but move your lips more slowly in an effort to comprehend what I said.9 points

I've watched him in the flesh at the under 15's stats national carnival when he represented QLD. He's an athlete for sure but was pretty raw at the same time as most tall players that age. You could see those athletic traits indeed but at the time watching his performance, he didn't do much that got me overly excited, but that level isn't about who's going to be the next AFL star. So much water to go under the bridge. The thing with Sam Darcy is that it was his last year of top age that really put him at the top end of draft calculations. Had a number of big games early on the 2021 season with Oakleigh Chargers and School Footy that really got recruiters talking. Just remember with Sam Darcy, he missed out on under 16 selection for Vic Metro where as Kalani White was an All Australian defender at that level. So just goes to show why you can't exactly determine a young players full talent at minor junior level.8 points

If we've been tracking AJ for years and think he could have an immediate impact why did we take Kentfield in the midsesson draft last season when AJ was available?7 points

I think it was John Northey who set that up a few years earlier than Neil...had a mate hiding out.6 points

"Push in the back" free kicks in general play are an extinct species, they are never paid and players know they can drive forward in the tackle with impunity. This change was partly brought on by the playing community diving forward at the slightest pressure from behind to simulate "in the back" and umpires' reaction to ignore that. The pendulum has now swung too far in that direction now and blatant "in the back" frees go unpaid.6 points

Cant believe that nobody on this site has spoken out about this over the past 1 to 2 years. Moore is indeed a sniping Dog who plays knee-first, whereas "Bruzzy" plays shoulder first. We have a player on our list who is very highly rated, but chose to console the meathead who put his best mate into retirement. It's a glaring example of why we never win flags. Yes bloke, I'm speaking about you. You and your media followers know who you are. Far too many supporters on this site who want to play kumbaya while being laughed at by the power cubs.6 points

Knocking Longmire is like knocking the all-blacks, you look churlish, he is an all time great as a coach, he’s been respectful in the game and his personal life has stood out as a model of dignity. By the by, as happy as I was for the Dogs to win it in 2016, they had a 20-8 free kick count and it stands out as the worst GF performance by umpires I have seen. Have never heard Horse sook about it when many others would have. For sure Horse goes in the woulda/coulda/shoulda GF coaching basket like Tommy Hafey, however I look at 14 years of sustained success as the measure of his abilities. I also would like to know what the hell happened to them last year.6 points

Do we have anyone on the list with any serious injury concerns?…….it appears not and if that is the case we are in a very very good spot right now. Out of sight, out of the news, off to the side of the draw and fully fit. As usual my confidence is building through preseason.5 points

I saw the photo and he is ripped. He will be bloody hard to tackle at his size. Genuinely can’t wait for him to debut.5 points

I really like our new training jumper. Hoping we can use something similar as a clash jumper next year. The royal blue clash has been in since 2018 and I reckon we could do with a refresh.5 points

I work with a rusted on ex South Melbourne supporter who regularly goes to watch them up in Sydney as he is one of our sales reps. He said that there's a big difference in the mindset of both sets of supporters. The Victorian based ex South supporters are very grateful for all Horse has done for the club whilst the Champagne Charlies that go watch them up there just want to win and be entertained all the time.5 points

I was watching some Rhettrospective on YouTube(inc. games from the 1960s) and it is interesting to note how umpires protected the ball-carrier, and a player's back couldn't be rammed and targeted, as is now commonplace.5 points

The use of the knee to inflict damage is probably one of the few acts that goes unpunished (mostly, or nearly all of the time) At suburban level back in the day, the use of the knee as a weapon was quite rampant Do people here remember when Hogan suffered vertebrae damage in a practice match against Geelong before he had played a senior AFL game? Can't remember which Geelong player inflicted the damage to Hogan but it might have even been 2 Geelong players (Hogan was playing in front) Missed the whole of the 2014 season (which was meant to be his debut season)5 points

Had a chat to the head recruiter at another club today and he really liked our picks. They didn’t have an early pick and didn’t put a lot of thought into the top of the draft but he had Langford and Smith as his top picks. He also liked Lindsay and thinks he has a good head on his shoulders.4 points

Especially since the AFL failed to act on it at the time and then outlawed the act later and secondly as it was the AFL who put Gus out of the game, on their direction.4 points

Now Demonstone old son, hope you are well! I played a lot of football and not once have I ever seen or witnessed anything like the action of that #%^&. NOT ONCE,! He become airborne with intent and concussed Gus... NEVER TO PLAY AGAIN. He certainly did not see it coming it was after the ball was away. Even allowing for this technicality rationale for getting of has more holes that a triple piece of swiss cheese. If it had of been Kossy he would have got 6 weeks. I'm still very angry about this whole event, the flowers, the chummy nature of some of our players in the next game, just a garbage result. I feel for Gus as I know many of us including independent supporter base of many clubs.4 points

Petty, for efficiency of effort and contribution, should be returned to the backline, full stop. His link-man roles are going to be important down there, and I suspect that this will give Lever more freedom to 'roam in' for his intercepts and timing (for marks coming into or across the backline) - whilst Salem is a champ, he is unsuited to these roles of which he has been expected to imitate (mostly unsuccessfully). This will give some pivotal receives to Sparrow and Rivers, plus Windsor/Langdon and perhaps, some of the newer but enthusiastic forward-line equipment. Aiden is going to play a leading role, I hope, in assisting to create forward clearances, unsettle packs and forge space pathways for the more dedicated, leading forward assets. Let’s not waste our energy or time hoping we will in any way shape or form get aggressive with the Pies to make up for what’s happened in the past couple of season. Going of last season we are more likely to give them hugs and kisses than bumps or hard tackles. Harvey Langford is the only good thing to come out of our recent games against the filth.4 points

So much written by so many who know so little about one player. I’ll give you my in-depth analysis of Trac’s psychological condition after I’ve been to training on Monday. You can take it to the bank!4 points

Perhaps he’s feeling a tad ‘sheepish’ (but not in a conspiracy theory way) after all of the brouhaha (now there’s a word you don’t hear too often) and is keeping a low profile. Regardless of what he is thinking, he’ll still give his all, as he is the consummate professional; and besides, he knows that in the interests of his ‘brand’, he must perform on the field.4 points

Looking at the gallery for today. There are some very fit looking lads in there. It loos like the entire squad has come back in sensational shape. I think the reports of our demise are somewhat premature.4 points

Love it. I do like the royal blue jumper though. Nothing wrong with having a few different clash jumpers though!3 points

It does really except for forced retirements. This is because it is too easy to game. Backend a contract heavily, get the player cheap for a few years, win flags, then ‘retire’ them outside of the cap, rinse and repeat.3 points

So we could get both? Kentfield was playing WAFL, which sadly given it was once very strong, is less competitive than the VFL. Better to get Special K into an elite environment and let AJ continue his development in the VFL.3 points

Maybe too strong, but career average of 62% ain’t no muppet, in the top 25 coaches for games at 333, 5th I think for winning percentage out of that bunch, is a high level of consistency, and equal 9th for number of GF reached. I’m not calling him Smith, Barassi, or Jock, but is a fair body of work. If I was grading him at school I’d say A-, is that better?3 points

Do you have any observations or comments to share about the track reports from the 2 or 3 posters who were able to get to sessions in Mansfield or the various MFC vids and photos? Because, if not, I'm sounding the hypocrisy alarm given this post knocking others seems to be your only contribution to the thread.3 points

Always leave room for people to grow and change… Tracc in the shadow of a potentially career ending injury (esp after Gus) is not the same as Tracc Round 1 2025. Go Demons!3 points

That's rubbish! It would take not even 10 minutes to write a formal complaint to the AFL. If St. Kilda can whinge and whine about an unfair system then so can we! The Melbourne Football Club needs to stand up for themselves!3 points

I was chatting to my neighbour Des Bell (101) played 7 games in the 30's, said he sent a text message to Angus after his speech at the Brownlow, he said he received a wonderful personal message back from him. Angus is truly an amazing human being, hopefully when he gets over the change in not playing we can get him back to the club in some capacity.3 points
