  1. It’ll be a cold day in hell when Fritta is not an automatic best 22. Did anyone actually watch the game? Fritta was moved onto Weitering in the second half and really curtailed his influence. He played a sacrificial role when it became obvious that Petty was not up for the task of drawing Weitering away from the contest. There is no better medium forward in the game. End of story. I would like to bring Woey into the 22. I love his ability to hit the contest and he’s a good user. Billings to sub for mine. He can make an impact but IMO we have better starting 22 options. If Salem is ready he will also be an automatic in, but unsure if they’ll risk him for a Perth trip post hammy. Also Chin is clearly struggling with his knee. I’d give him a well earned week off and give Kynan Brown a taste or even give Kolt another go in his home state. I wouldn’t take the Eagles at home lightly, but likewise think we can afford to try a few different things.

  2. Out: JVR, Rivers, Woey Don't need these kids getting any ideas about sunnier climates.

  3. That's true, but also if the umpire on just 2 occasions did the right thing, we would have one goal more from the rubbish dangerous tackle disallowed goal and they would have one goal less, from the incorrect ruck out on the full to Pittonet, who was the one who hit it out and giving them a goal. That gives us a 2 goal win. That is ignoring multiple other incorrect decisions, which of course can happen in a game. Here is the real question though, in each of the last 3 games against the Blues, all won by them by less than a goal, how many controversial decisions went our way instead of Carlton's. I have no doubt the crowd affects umpires and that is a fault with our game.

  4. Fair dinkum you blokes. The umpires do NOT have a set against the Dees. The umpires do NOT try to swing games in favour of the other teams. If they did, they would be out of a job. Full stop. They do occasionally make errors - split second decision, partially obscured view, all of that - but can we please stop this mindless bleating as though we are some sort of perfect team that never makes mistakes? Don't forget, the more F'ing and B'ing you blokes do only drags our game down and deters people from becoming umpires. Stop it. Just make sensible, analytical statements about our players, coach and game plans and the opposition players, coach and game plans. Talk about what you saw, not what you imagine. When you blame the umpires, it only makes you look like a nuff-nuff.

  7. By the by, I've been critical of the blues defence this season. But credit where it is due - they were excellent defensively last night, particularly in the first half, won some critical one on one battles and were a huge factor in the win - perhaps the biggest.

  9. Carlton are a top 4 side, match up brilliantly against us, and love playing us. And we suck in wet weather. We started awfully. Being down 36-0 makes beating anyone hard, let alone a top 4 side. It was incredible to see us stem the tide and end up feeling like we could have won, so that is a clear positive. Ultimately their cleanliness in front of goal early and our four awful misses (Petty, Fritsch, Pickett, Chandler) cost us the win. The fact it came to that despite Walsh, Cripps and Weitering playing stellar football is remarkable. Don’t give me “the umpiring cost us” though. [censored] me. We were gifted a goal from the non-mark call late in the third and there were a stack of calls that either went in our favour or were missed. Yes, the JVR tackle was a pathetic free, but we lost this game ourselves. We have a midfield problem though. All three losses are hallmarked by opposition mids dominating. I liked the different looks in there tonight with ANB but we are not capable of winning it this year if we keep having games where we’re beaten this badly in the middle.

  10. JVR PERFECT TACKLE. PERFECT. UMPIRE SAYS DANGEROUS TACKLE. WORST DECISION EVER. EVER. (Kozzy kicks to Langdon goal). and so many more GAWN KNOCK OUT OF BOUNDS. (Off Carlton’s ruck) RIVERS HIT IN THE HEAD. PLAY ON. RIVERS CRUNCHED IN THE BACK. PLAY ON. TRAC GRABBED TO THE GROUND. NOTHING. VINEY TACKLED AND SLUNG. KICKS OUT OF BOUNDS. DELIBERATE. FREE TO BLUES PLEASE MFC. PLEASE. ASK FOR EXPLANATIONS. IT COST US 4 POINTS.

  11. Liked McAdam’s game, 6 tackles more than outweighs the quiet attacking game. If it brings that pressure and has a day out he’ll soon be in contention. BBB not next week but at least he’s back moving better. Solid Kolt game Kynan Brown messier than usual but I like the way he always fronts up. Jeffo probably the highlight, stats don’t tell the full story, he was attacking the contest in the air with purpose.

  12. 21 years old. FFS! Name another key forward his age we had access to averaging more than a goal game. Give the kid a break.

  13. Huh? Our percentage is 121.%. It’s top 4 (only Sydney, Geelong and GWS are better). Carlton’s is 109% by comparison.

  14. When I was a wee lad when the Dees would lose a game I would often be very sad and and on occasion would take some posters off my wall and pack a backpack and tell my parents I was running away from home. I never made it beyond the driveway but I put on quite a show. Unfortunately now I live alone and have a mortgage, so the threat of running away does not have the same dramatic impact and I would only upset my cat, and even then I am not too sure it would mind too much. Always find it interesting how we re-act following a loss and wondered where others lie. Some options include The Masochistic Re-watch Do you re-watch the game (or at least extended highlights and other media) and try analyse what went wrong or where the game was won or lost. Are you searching for learnings? Blank Space Do you just move on to next week and not ignore it all until the next week. Not just with the Dees but I find myself not listening to podcasts after a loss (Sorry lads!) There are further options - such as the venting on a forum but what do you do following a loss?

  16. Appalling clear bias, NB #22 who always screws us, but we did lose it in the first quarter.

  17. Jeffo’s effort was the best I’ve seen from him (I haven’t seen a lot from the kid). It was like he was playing without fear and just gave effort!

  19. Not one for using the dreaded 5 day break excuse but our game on Saturday was as taxing as they come, 5 days later and it's a wet track against a contender. It a lot of ways it does make the comeback look pretty impressive. A forget game for me and hardly a representation of what the season holds for us, we'll bounce back.

  22. Two things can be true at the same time. we lost for reasons within our control. No question. Also, the umpiring was terrible.

  23. I slept well last night. I'm much better dealing with losses now than I was a few years ago. I used to struggle to get to sleep after a bad loss. I practice gratitude. Think of all the luck I've had in life. puts things in perspective. And i avoid the media after a loss (when we win i lap it all up). no point rerunning or ruminating on something that can't be changed

  27. A timely reminder that you never know what someone is going through in private, and we all should do better with some of the trash we throw at our players over a football game. It is after all just a game, but these players are someone’s entire world!

  31. Agree with you, but I have absolutely no doubt that different players are umpired differently. Take Oliver and Cripps as examples. Clarry is pinged for holding the ball or throwing in an instant, while Cripps is given an eternity to dispose and throws the ball without penalty regularly. I say that from years of watching both play.

  33. I'm taking solace in the fact that Carlton's very best can beat us by a kick whilst our very best would see us tear them a new a-hole.

  34. Every week Windsor does something that reinforces the fact he's gonna be an absolute ripper. His quick reaction to toe poke Vineys lunge over the defenders shoulder was forking brilliant. And watching Gawn launch one of his bombs is one of the best sights in the game.

  35. Love how he goes on AFL360 and tells us how hard his job is and then pleads for umpires to not be abused, yet is absolutely derelict in his duty when he has to make any important calls.

  36. Yes, the umpiring was very average, but if we turned up to play at the start of the game, instead of the 2nd qtr, we wouldn't have this thread.

  37. Just watched the second half again, despite giving them a 6 goal start we ground them down and we’re running out of our skins in the last quarter. How good is Petracca, Vines and Dukes shared goal, we outmarked them out run them, went inside 50 more often just let down by our kicking for goal and who says we can’t play in the rain and after a 5 day break. It really hurts that we lost but very proud of our never say die attitudes and behaviours. ANB was huge.!!

  42. JVR is a better ruck then Fullarton. The commentary on here with people thinking Fullarton is actually a ruckman of so far off the mark. He's literally a 200cm forward flanker that tries to attempt a few hitouts every now and then. If you think Fullarton would have made any difference as a 2nd hand ruckman then you would have been in for a shock.

  44. Too right. I could not be prouder of the players and my club.

  45. Thank you so much. Not just the ones not paid but 11 frees to Carlton in the first to our three was putrid. That's equivalent to 44 to 12 for a game. Who wouldn't object to that? Most of them were just soft gimees and then in the last quarter the umpires remember there is a htb rule. Instead of all the ones they missed prior. I really hope we ask for an explanation but it won't change anything. Umps seriously looked like having an agenda tonight and that free called dangerous helped them achieve it. Despite our poor start we would have won if the umpires did their job without bias. They got sucked in four times with dob by the crowd. Cowards . It really puts one off the game when they get umpired like this.
