  1. It seems Tiger fans have turned their attention to the next game. From 'Punt Road End': The gloomy: Can we forfeit this game. How did the VFL game go today? Could be a smashing on the cards, particularly if they open Richmond up early in the game. The Dees will obliterate us Along with the green flogs loving them so much. Might break the free kick count record next week. Rolling Jesus of the bench won't help next week. The MC have to take the bull by the horns and start blooding more of our kids as it is obvious some of our established stars are currently not up to it. We also want players who can play four quarters and not cameos I didn't see the game yesterday so have no idea. Except to say God help us against the Dees Sorry I can't watch this....I have to wash my hair It's a toss up whether I'll watch the grass grow or the paint dry. Melbourne will be a formidable opponent to combat. It could get ugly for Richmond. Out: Rnd 6. In: Bye Most satisfying aspect of this year would be to see the Dees denied a B2B. Three key midfield suppliers for the Dees, Langdon, Trac, Oliver.Tackle hard and make them pay. Again, we must always have one defender zone behind Fritsch. He marks from behind, he is similar to Dogs' Picken in the 2016 GF. Miller running through Fritsch would lift the young fella's confidence. The Dees are my most hated team this year. Dees and daylight. Some optimism, sort of: Actually, I think the underdog has won every one of our games this year. We might be a chance. This time last week I was confident. Last night I doubted. Now, ableit a few drinks deep, I am confident. Let's do these xxxxx on the big stage. Max Gawn is obviously huge for them , so I’d bring back in Soldo , the tag team has been great in the past against good rucks. How hilarious would it be if we turned em over tho Response from another poster: Not sure about "hilarious" though, craig. Reckon I would drop dead from surprise if that were to eventruate!! My absolute favourite: Aside from us winning it, there would be nothing better than seeing Melbourne beat Geelong in the Grand Final. Can you imagine it? It would do C.Snott's head in. Geelong losing another GF to a side going for back-to-back ... a side who has been no-hopers for much of his footballing life. Make it happen. From Bigfooty After being fixated with the lop sided free kick count on Saturday they have turned their attention to our game. They seem to think the free kicks were AFL payback on Dimma and Dimma didn't say anything about the umpiring as they think he's been muzzled by AFL after choice comments like: past anti umpire comments, not wanting to play at Marvel stadium, blaming Dan's close contact rules for having one player out, etc. The gloomy: I can’t see how Reiwoldt plays next week He’s a dinosaur now and the ball just pinged out of our forward line. dees look [censored] tonight if they bring that next week we'll beat em We will lose next week because Melbourne are too good, but should have won today. Not sure the team will give a fu** enough to fight back from 2-4 after the [censored] they had to deal with today. The minute silence won’t be just for the Anzacs but our season. Could get ugly lol We’ll lose by 100 next week gws won the free kick count 24-18 tonight against the shemans at the G. that will be corrected next week by the umps Am I the only one that still does not rate Melb? Lol ... ...Yeah I don’t think they really have a weak spot over the whole ground , there not even out of second gear and they won by 70 points Paint the picture. Dees win 24 straight. Unbackable shortest odds in history entering the GF and then half their team out with....well you know health and safety protocols. Oh the outrage from the cough, cough AFL boys club. They would postpone the GF for one week just to let them play I reckon. Well good luck at least half filling the G next week. Constant anti-tigers umpiring, poor selections, [censored] timeslot, who would even bother considering who we are playing. Some optimism: dusty back next week. sauce? can't reveal my sauces they just said dees haven't lost in 267 days we're gonna win next week they have beaten dogs by 26, suns by 13 , bummers by 29 , port by 32 and gws by 67. we'll get em imo Next week's going to be a very interesting match. Watched the ski brigade beat GWS after our game and it was their first really ominous performance of the year, they were very good. Prior to that, I would have said we were a red hot chance to knock them off. As things stand, I still believe that back at the 'G we're a chance, but we'll need to play far better and hope a few things go our way. This bigfooty part shows why it is really good that DL keep the 'post game' and the 'next week' threads separate. I had to wade through 26 pages of whinging!

  4. I was ropable that people were booing him. He elected to leave, which history would suggest was a bad move for him, but he had so much to deal with when he was dee that only the cold hearted could hold the decision to leave against him. And as luck would have it, we got May as direct result of his decision to leave. Surely Jesse must have had a few sliding door thoughts on Saturday night. I felt for him. Agree on his body language - in fact made that point to my mate right near the start of the game when he threw up his hands in frustration. Poor form

  5. The level of respect for umpires has diminished further because of this rule and it's not their fault. As usual, the AFL has decided to put out a very small fire with gasoline and our on field officials are being made to look ridiculous as a result. It's been suggested that on field abuse is a driver behind the shortfall of some 6000 umpires across the game so we need to "set an example" at AFL level. What a load of bollocks. From my observations, at junior and local level, the issue of umpire abuse has always been on the other side of the boundary, particularly parents of players. Penalising Harris Andrews for raising his arms does nothing to counter this. I'd like to see some empirical data supporting the theory that on field abuse is deterring significant numbers from taking up or continuing with umpiring. Data, not focus group driven claptrap. I'd like to know what the AFL has done to attract, train & retain umpires and junior & local level I'd like to know what the AFL is doing in terms of education regarding respect of umpires at local and junior level I suspect it's SFA. In the meantime. umpires at AFL level are made to look like mugs because of knee jerk rules that don't consider consequences. And the footy public - the life-blood of the sport - are being further disenfranchised by what's happening to "our" game.

  6. Let's not get ahead of ourselves just yet. As a team we a relying very much on big scoring bursts in just one quarter. I went back and had a look at what our results would be if you removed our best quarter each game. ... Yeah, nah, we still win every game. I really put effort into my MFCSS then, and it still didn't work out.

  8. Found it. Also, someone calls Christian Salem "Christian Slalom" and really enjoyed his own work. "they are corporate - of course they are hypocritical. Its not so much the affair which ruined him with the league - it was all the stuff that happened in the Gold Coast hub period. The Cotchins, Kebabgate etc. As i have said before, i have it on very very good authority that at a time when the AFL were scrambling to keep the competition running to avoid tens of millions of dollars lost....a literal lifetime or achievements [censored] away in one massive pandemic wee .... at a time when they were trying to work out the near impossible logistics of running a national league in a hub, re-accommodating 16 clubs, their entire list + their families, staff..... our club was BY FAR the most annoying, entitled and consuming of their time. Our demands were ridiculous - we had players contacting the VERY HIGH UP AFL officials about ridiculous request like asking for food to be delivered to their rooms at the AFLS cost. One story i heard was that a player contacted Gil directly to ask about getting their pet dog bought up to the hub on the basis that it was his GF's "emotional supporter" animal - it was totally, ******* ridiculous stuff. It all boiled over with the "Cotchins Wife" massage parlour thing. The club then got its [censored] together and just on the cusp of [censored] getting really dicey, Stack and CCJ pulled the "Kebabgate" [censored]. The AFL had ZERO time for our [censored], they saw 17 clubs doing everything they can to make this work & 1 being petulant flogs taking up their valuable time & then still nearly risked it all when they got in a streetfight breaking hub. The AFL had to suck some serious [censored] to convince the QLD govt to not send the entire league home. It was a BIG BIG DEAL.All the while when this is going on, the ******* coach was shacking up with a younger employee inside that same hub while his much adored wife sat at home with the kids. The AFL had a gutful. As i said, when Dimma STUPIDLY made those comments about Stack missing a ******* VFL game about Dan Andrews - the AFL had zero ******* time for it & wanted him under that bus as quickly as possible. You reckon that [censored] blew up into front news story by accident?? the AFL had already seen our behaviour damage their reputation with the QLD govt, & here he is now damaging our reputation with the VIC govt - another ALP govt. They are not going to take the knee off the RFC till Dimma is gone. Just like the Carlton / Elliot, Bombers / Hird & Collingwood Buckley/Macguire problem - it will not end till they have a scalp to hang on the wall as a clear example of "DO NOT fu** WITH THE SYSTEM" The best thing we could do is let the blood be spilt, bottom out & take the pick along with the medicine they want to serve us. Its over folks. 33-13 says it all"

  13. Ditto, totally agree. Let me put some perspective to this. Tom Scully when he deserted us deserved every boo he got plus more. Hogan is a completely different story. He has had some big challenges and has had to deal with some demons (excuse the pun). I wish him well and hope he does well at GWS.

  17. Absolutely no chance whatsoever. The game moves too quickly. It can't be stopped because a team doesn't like a decision. This isn't cricket or NFL where there is down time between plays and a chance to review discrete decisions. The umpiring was poor last night, and I am of the view the AFL needs to pump significantly more money into investing in better umpires, better conditions for them (i.e. make them FT and pay them well enough to attract new umpires) and better training. Simplifying some rules and removing others altogether would assist. But a captain's challenge is wholly unworkable and at any rate would turn into a tactic - captains would call it at a strategic moment to stop the game.

  18. Fine but the same goes the other way. I’ve heard plenty of umpires be just as condescending to players. Why is it ok for an umpire to explain for 45 seconds why he paid a free and if the player says “but” it’s a free kick? Perhaps if the umpires were not given such a difficult set of grey rules to adjudicate each week there would be a lot less for players to question. If the umpires lack basic consistency from game to game and week to week, why would a player not question something so he knows what not to do next time? Because truly in each and every game the rules are judged differently and it can absolutely change the outcome of matches. It’s not about the odd mistake. Umpires are humans and they’ll make mistakes. It’s about the lack of consistency and transparency. Last week arms out is not a 50. This week it is. Next week it’s a sneeze will do it. The week after I can scream at an umpire.

  19. It's a difficult issue. I grew up in what many would call an 'umpire abusive' household. "White maggot" was thrown around a lot and we were more or less taught that abusing all of the umpire, the opposition and even our own players at the footy (within reason) was ok. This was always at odds to how we were taught to treat people in other settings. It is odd now I think about it and it's not Ok. We need to avoid the game becoming like Soccer is globally. Players surround the referee, intimidate them, mouth of at them and gesticulate in all directions. I'm a mad soccer man and I hate it. So I support any measures designed to address the issue of umpire respect. That said, respect for respects sake isnt the way. It can't be token or forced. The media, the public, and just about everyone is readily abusive of players, politicians, administrators, and other people in high profile professions. It's part and parcel of accountability and how we as a collective shape behaviours and demand improvement. If the AFL cares as much as they say, make the umpires professionals. Pay them a salary and a game bonus and make it attractive relative to the scrutiny and pressure. Train them, promote them, drop them and raise the standards of umpiring, because they are poor and it is clear to all. They have a huge impact on the product, the results, the health and safety of players and the fortunes of an industry of people working towards life long goals. It's an enormously important and underappreciated role. I appreciate there are 8 games a week and what, 8-10 umpires per game? So its perhaps a staff of 50 all up. $10m p.a. at $200k each. AFLx cost more than that surely? They can't demand respect when the standards are so poor. They can't have it both ways.

  20. I've never had a problem with the umpires - insanely difficult job and more grey areas than most sports in the world. Yes, decisions are frustrating but, for the most part, it's swings and roundabouts. This rule rule however is a complete disaster and has the potential to make the gap and animosity between players, fans and umpires even worse (if it hasn't already). Players must respect umpires and there should be strict penalties enforced for those who don't (Toby Greene). Umpire abuse was already a reportable offense and could result in a free kick in other years; enforce the rules that are already on the books. To hear on the mics an umpire describe two players 40m away, raising their hands in the air as 'abuse' is bewildering and completely inappropriate.

  28. To be honest dazz I reckon it’s more likely that we were all desperately hanging out for our next big thing and got carried away in how we rated him. No doubt the off-field distractions didn’t help, but I think it’s probably true that he just is what he is: a decent but not great tall forward.

  31. De-rail slightly…… what do we think about Harry Petty’s spoil on Jesse Hogan that gifted his only goal on Saturday night? Was a perfect spoil in an impossible situation for me…running back, punched the ball and didn’t touch the player. Umpire knee-jerked to the fact he was running face onto Hogan to spoil, assumed it was ‘front-on contact’ because he didn’t mark it. I was a teeny bit ropable.

  41. There’s definitely a bit of sadness. Always really liked him at melb. I don’t understand the booing and the abuse at the ground though. Thought that was very poor. He did what he could for us. If your dad dies of cancer and then you get cancer and your family is on the other side of the country you get to do whatever you need to do. Unfortunately even Melbourne have their fair share of [censored] supporters. It’s not like we lost out when we let him go.

  43. Anyone see the irony and a tint of sadness in watching Jesse Hogan on Saturday night? Got given an absolute bath by the bloke that we pretty much traded a direct swap for. I'll also add that Harrison Petty when on him at times towelled him up as well. Steven May has gone on to become an All Australian full back and premiership player, whereas Hogan has had off field issued and at his third club after Freo pushed him out the door quick enough. The tint of sadness is that I honestly thought after his 2015 season he was going to go on to becoming the games best forward in the competition and certainly had the potential to be an 60-80 goal a season superstar CHF. Watching on Saturday night, it simply confirmed that nothing has changed with him. The dude is 27 and is body language is still poor, he still abuses teammates for not hitting directly at his chest and then wanting to sit out the back wanting the cheap goal over the top. A player that will always talked about as 'what could have been'.

  44. Players will learn. And then, much, much, much later, supporters finally will too. There is a culture of umpire abuse in AFL football at all levels. It's not only accepted but often encouraged as 'passion'. Umpires are scapegoats because there will always be bad decisions in 2 hours of chaos. It needs to stop. At lower levels of football many teams are having to sacrifice a player to umpire the game .... and those players nearly always say how much more difficult it is than they thought it would be. I suspect they also come out of it far more respectful of umpires.

  45. Agree 100%. I thought that was pretty much his best game for the club: he seems to be playing a slightly higher role, where he pinpoints kicks into the F50, rather than just crumbing deep. His vision and kicking precision are excellent and he’s really able to use his reading of the game to great effect. In general, it seems as though our younger brigade are really beginning to shine through, but what an apprenticeship they are being given!

  46. I can't recall a better defensive game for us than Steven May's. He was superb. Jack Viney IMO played one of his best games for the club and certainly one of his best non finals games. His intensity and defence at stoppage was vital in the second. That 3rd quarter was a joy to watch. So much so I watched the replay this week for the first time this year. I'll never tire of listening to commentators fawn all over us. Massive game coming up against Richmond.

  48. I'm more than happy just to bank the 4 points at this time of year, but that being said, welcome back Perth Dees. We have missed you. Kosi's third quarter goal will go criminally underrated. It's very rare to see that happen in a game of footy. And for good reason, it's simply incredible the amount of petrol tickets that guy is able to spend at one time. And then it was probably toppled by Sparrow's effort a short while later. In 2019, not only was I strongly opposed to drafting Luke Jackson, but I also called the Steven May trade a "bust". You guys should just put me on ignore.
