Half the team live at Brayshaws parents house. He is going nowhere.11 points

Angus has another quality 6+ years in him. I honestly think his best footy is ahead of him. He is so smart and brave. Can play in multiple positions. I don’t think he is irreplaceable but we should everything we can to keep him. He is a core team member and so important to our culture9 points

Hi everyone. This article popped up in my facebook newsfeed yesterday so I thought I'd share it. For anyone that doesn't known Dave Cawsey he has a huge collection of player issued Melbourne guernseys and is always on the lookout for more. I've known him since we met in Perth for the infamous 2.8.20 we once scored against West Coast in a season opener. Premiership Cup at home at Nellie Melba8 points

The AFL Supporters Survey released today, and hightlighted on The Age back page, talks about, among other things, fans fed up with the boys club commentary ruining the watching spectacle on tele. Who'd have thought? But the good news is Ch 7 is allocating this season Daisy Peace to the Friday night commentary team for special comments, moving Wayne Carey to Saturday. How good is that, but a good call by 7 after Daisy's suberb comments contribution on the GF. At times it was emabarrassingly good. Well done to 7 on that. She even had BT saying during the GF's 3rd quarter "....Daise , can you explain just what's happened...?" So she did. Priceless.7 points

Brayshaw made the position his own. It isn’t an afterthought He is one of the main reasons we won the Flag. On one wing we had pure speed, the other was take on Brute Force. Take your Pick….?6 points

I'm pretty certain he wants to stay, but I'm also certain that our salary cap will be getting tight. I'll quote a Dees poster from BF (billyboutsis): ''His current contract is approx 625k a season which was renewed when he was having a breakout season in 2018… Was great for us when it counted last season but its a lot of cap space for a player playing out of his natural position. Langdon is on a bit less than 500k for context. Happy for him to stay if they can resign him in the mid 500’s, otherwise emotions aside he is the one player who would be of value to another club, “replaceable” and frees up space to hold onto the younger regular first teamers who would be due a considerable bump up in their 1st or 2nd contract renewals.'' Billy's views perfectly sum up mine. I don't know how accurate his comments are, but they sound about right. I like Angus and understand the ''fabric of the club'' argument, but he's definitely a player I don't want to be paying too much to retain.6 points

ADONSKI talk about turning the clock back !! We missed out but in retrospect we were the winners on all fronts Smith was more than useful for Cats but I believe our supporters in D/L have underrated Angus team contribution all year. I bet if you went back and examined the games of his opponents very few would have been in the best half dozen. Things like spoiling a mark and knocking the ball out of bounds in that process were fine many times as well as his tackling stopping firsts forward. He in effect was another defender and attacked when he was in space. Yes he occasionally missed the mark with his kick but in Clubland he was snd deserved his recognition snd team role. If Angus does leave through FA with say 2 flags our succession plans of say Howes Rosman Jordon Laurie or even Bowser or AMW maybe Oscar Baker if he excels given an opportunity. The cupboard is not exactly bare in prospects for our Members wing st the G. BTW LUCIFER to suggest that Gus Granny performance was a Cameo again vastly undervalued his game long commitment and excellence. Many in the Club Will say that is his best game ever for us ( most valuable and impactful snd rounded ) and I totally agree having a seat on the non members wing between half forward and wing on his side of the ground in the GF. He was not far behind Trac Fritta Clarry/Salo as best in the top 5 players for us. Indeed your "cameo" referring to his third quarter was as good a quarter as played as he was in the thick of it before our run on and bang bang bang. A very valued Clubman like his family a thoroughly decent and humble human being who would be much missed by the Demons faithful. So good to see him get his rewards after his concussion struggles earlier in his career.5 points

Daisy is fantastic, but with BT calling, it still makes the Ch 7 Friday night games unbearable to watch unless you mute.5 points

Yes I do remember this clearly. One of my missus best mates is actually close friend of Daisy and they usually come up to Bright a fair few times. I've met Daisy once and was blown away with her in depth knowledge of the game around structure and game plans. Regarding Daisy's comment, I said to my other half whwn we first watched the replay that Daisy could see where the game was going well before the other commentators. I really do hope she gets into some sort of development coaching in the men's competition whether that's with the dees or another club.4 points

Watching the GF on TV live i remember Pearce's comments in the 3rd when Dogs went 19pts up. She mentioned how long it had been since we goaled and the value of resetting the momentum. Said something like that we just needed to find a way of getting a goal, toughing out a way forward, to reset. Then Viney pushed out space for Harmes to kick to Fritter and off we went She read exactly where the game was at and described it succinctly. Perfect commentary Wish there was more like that within the commentary team and less 'wow-wee!' dipsh*ts4 points

I'm in the 100+ club for the Q3 sequence. It's like Tolstoy's Resurrection when the ice cracks. However many more flags come our way, that 38 seconds (or whatever it is) will always be sacred.4 points

I’m of the belief that windows for a serious tilt at a premiership are only truly open for around 5 years (probably less). As such, I am more of the belief that shorter windows are realistically attainable. The Hawks flag in 2008 was extremely premature and an outlier, their 2012-2015 years was their true window. Look at the Cats who are trying to perennially contest a premiership (might keep fans happy, but that cliff is only getting steeper). Some have waited 57 years for a flag. They won’t be around in another 57. Go now and go hard.4 points

Neither Harmes not Hunt have the footy IQ for the role Gus plays. We tried Hunt and it didn't work.3 points

I was thinking that if it came down to prioritising Brayshaw or Harmes, we’d clearly spend our money on Gus. Only to find out Harmes still has 3 years left on his contract.3 points

Before everyone ties themselves in knots or trades Gus out while making ridiculous assertions about his value to the side.... The AFL CBA has clause 4C which states: "c) In the event that the parties are unable to reach agreement on the terms of a new collective bargaining agreement by 30 June 2022 or such later date as agreed between the Parties, either Party may by the giving of 30 days’ notice in writing to the other Party terminate this Agreement provided that such notice shall not take effect before 1 November 2022" To put it simply, the aim of both parties is to have a new agreement in place by mid- year. This is important because this one runs out on 31 October and clubs and players need to know definitively how much they have to spend and earn for the coming years. Gus's manager would be absolutely remiss to tie his player into an arrangement today, since he is highly talented and sought after. By mid-year everyone will have a better idea of how much is on the table ( and it may be less than the current CBA, with the COVID disruptions).3 points

Smith chose elsewhere and a very important role was nurtured. A stroke of good luck? Possibly, but also beautifully executed Gus made it a very important position.3 points

My guess would be Harmes' disposal and awareness would be detrimental on the wing. Definitely has Gus covered for pace, but I think Gus reads the play better and that's why he made the defensive wing role work despite not being a fantastic runner. Just intriguing if 'defensive winger' was even a role we had picked out given we chased Smith.3 points

Well done Dees. All adds to our culture. Dick and Carol are lifelong Dees and would have got a real kick out of seeing the cup up close. Dick absolutely deserved this as our past CEO, among other roles and I am very happy for him.3 points

Actually, the exact opposite is true FV. I saw most of Robbie's games live and he played in diabolical sides at times. His greatness was that he had SFA around him and was often the creator, hard-ball getter and finisher in the same passage of play. Keith Greg was a great player and won two Brownlows in good sides with wonderful players shovelling it out to him. Flower was better IMHO. He would be at least as good today. Arguably, he'd be better protected by the White Rabbits and his creativity and devastatingly good disposal would be supported by the hard nuts (i.e. Viney, Clarry, Harma, Hibba, Brayshaw etc.) getting it out to him. Think The Bont on steroids!3 points

Probably nine or ten times in full….the first replay watched was the night of the GF (couldn’t help myself ❤️💙) and the most recent one was last Saturday night with my dad who I hadn’t seen in a year….that was a brilliant experience!3 points

I'm having a holiday down at Ocean Grove at the moment and I've been walking heaps in the morning (13.5ks today) so when I get home, completely knackered I watch one of the finals. Yesterday it was the Brisbane game the day before the Cats game and the day before that the Granny. Today, some random game during the year, maybe Essendon. Watching the Cats game I just can't understand how the Saints let Stanley go. The guy down here who owns the pie shop is a dees supporter3 points

Let’s hope he is just waiting for the new CBA. Some people like to criticise his disposal but I think they are just displaying their confirmation bias… or maybe I am when I see him turn onto either foot and get the ball forward to advantage. To me he is a heart and soul, team man. Of course everyone is replaceable, but I would hate to lose him.3 points

There's always been talk about a move West, but after what he said post GF (It's your club, it's our club), I'd got the feeling he was MFC for life. And despite some (perceived) initial disgruntlement with being moved out of the guts, he's really seemed to relish the wing role and his place in the Winger's Club. Not sure why else he's deferred contract talks, but I'd be surprised if he's on the move.3 points
-
No it doesn't , you can count the times she waits for about a minute then points out why BThas just said something completely incorrect ,showing he's learnt nothing about the game since he retired. It was the second best bit of the grand final. It's like pencilling in the goal kickers in the footy record2 points

I'm amazed (and somewhat angered) at the number of negative social media comments I've read about Daisy as a commentator (both male and female). I didn't think anyone would / could object to a highly intelligent and extremely footy-smart commentator on our screens - but there you go. I guess there are still a few Neanderthal boys-club types about. I also amazed that Channel 7 don't listen to their audience and replace B and BT once and for all.2 points

Leaving the greatest Demon out, if Allen Jacovich was playing in this side, he would kick 100 in a season, while eating his Big Mac meal during the game. Clearly several of the Demon stars of years gone by would be as good, if not better in this current team. One of the most pleasing things for me is the depth in this squad. I can’t recall this quality of depth in the last 50 years. Thank you Jason Taylor, one of the best recruits ever to the Dees.2 points

Makes sense for both parties to defer contract talks. Many variables that can impact the outcome. In another world this approach makes sense but in the footy world it becomes gossip in the the footy media cesspit with all its distractions.2 points

Angus loves and the club and wants to stay. However he is 26yo and this is his last big contract negotiation. I think he wants a long term deal and he may have been offer for eg 3 years at 500k. I reckon he backs himself to have his best year yet and let his football do the talking so he can bank a long term deal him leaving would be a major blow to our team and culture.2 points
-
next cba should be negotiated shortly which will see a fair few players wait and see what their value is in market as contracts straddle the current agreement and then the next one he's a restricted free agent so it's hard to see us losing him for diddly squat if he does choose to leave2 points

Played one heck of a grand final but let’s be honest he’s a role player with strengths and significant weaknesses. We can’t be paying the top market rate for him. Doesn’t mean he won’t stay but it makes sense for both sides to get a look at what’s on offer from other clubs before committing.2 points

Gus doesn't seem the type to be motivated by money and doubt he would be looking for a FA type windfall. He would know he won't get what he is worth at the Dees but will most likely have a minimum $/term/incentives he would sign for. On the other hand, as much loved and as courageous as he is, the club may feel he is the easiest on-baller to replace with the range of players waiting in the wings. His 15 minutes in the 3rd quarter helped turn the tide in the GF. A cameo? Maybe. But the spoil then mark and goal were inspirational. He gave us the lead and team belief went up. His defensive wing role limits him showcasing and using his talent. Is it satisfying enough for hm? Does he want to be a role player for another 5-7 years... A different (midfield and perhaps a leadership team) role might be enough to entice him away. Would understand if he left. Hope he stays.2 points

I've personally watched the Grand Final in Full into the Early 20's. I break it up by watching a game during the Year and follow it with Round 23, Brizzy Final, Prelim then the Granny Again. I must also Congratulate my Dad who's in his Early 70's and I reckon Leading the competition with hitting the 60 Full Replay views. He's marking it down every time he's watched it. He must have watched over I don't know 100 and who knows how many games of Footy since we've won the Granny. The poor old bugger needs some help. Onya Dad.2 points

Ha we had some friends drop over for dinner last night and after too many beers and wine I sat up watching the second half again… I woke just eerily happy and couldn’t remember why until seeing this thread. How good is FOOTY!!!2 points

Not sure you're correct here. Healy helped us get Roos over the line originally, has talked up our players, stood up for Goody with all the stuff going on lately, and has made appearances on fan podcasts and the like. I think often people like Healy and Lyon get misunderstood by supporters because they try to be fair and balanced in their media roles.2 points

Nathan Jones. Very good player who soldiered on valiantly during some very very lean years. Such a pity he couldn't make the grand final team2 points

I included / signed my mum up this year as part of the family membership I have, so there is one more genuinely new member onto the tally. What's even better is that she was originally an Essendon supporter, so is proof that conversion therapy can work!! Incidentally I've also moved back down from Queensland, so now a full member again, not an interstate one and looking forward to getting to many a game this year a the spiritual home of footy and the MFC, the mighty G. My kids are going to love the atmosphere there when it's packed with Demons supporters, with the team taking down the opposition.2 points
