  3. I suspect CHOCO had a very big impact on winning the flag too. Keep him around for heavens sake

  4. Surely at least some from our 1900 flag could get a gig? No? Could that be because it’s pointless comparing players of different eras, where the skill level was different to begin with, and relies on faulty and incomplete human memory?

  5. Excerpts from the Bulldog's game days thread on bigfooty. To relive the unfolding horror through their eyes one more time ... Bont's goal: BONT!!! Captain!!! King Marcus Pressure pressure pressure eventually it gets to everyone thats the moment right there Harmes to Fritsch: Fumble by Baz unfortunately leads to that Why did Hannan give that handball? Felt like we were one goal away from making it bloody hard then Fritsch again: And just like that all the hard work is gone For fu** sake Ffs Brown: Far too easy out of the centre there Gah Oh for fu**s sake What the hell are these guys doing In three minutes we went from complete control to fighting for it again We need to get this centre clearance! I’m sounding like a broken record. Geez that Baz fumble is now being paid for dearly Brayshaw: FMD Daniel All that hard work vanishes into nothingness We're starting to look a bit tired. Petracca: I am so done with English SPOIL THE DAMN BALL That was just too good by Petracca…. He has just been killing us all game I think we’ve found a way to turn a very good position into a pretty bad one Reckon we’re in a spot of bother here and it’s through poor execution. Sad to say it's over. St. Kilda in 2009 is the only team in the AFL era to lose after leading at 3QT in a GF. 5 goals in a row How are we in this position Sparrow: That’s it.. done Mids getting embarrassed. How easy can these clearances get Cannot stop them getting it out of the centre There goes the premiership Yeah it's over. Game over fellas. Oliver: Eesh No way ! That’s ridiculous WTF happened? Can we play a defensive player in the centre square for crying out loud Oh, my. Oh, bloody my. What the actual fu** The dees are walking straight through us We can’t come back from that Well that was a really disappointing end to the year Was a great year, bad luck fellas Honestly can’t believe some of those clearance efforts. In a grand final. Wow All over just like that.. Have we ever scored 5-6 goals that quickly ourselves? We look done. That was bloody impressive.

  6. I recall Choco saying that he was pleased and surprised that Melbourne offered him a long term contract when he signed on, I think it was at least 3 years.

  7. I believe the panel and the additons this year - Yze and Willimas, Chaplin etc. and Richo's role - helped a lot and the pen should be out for them. This coaching /mgt team needs to stay together also, at least for 2022. Simon lead them beautifully, but I had great faith with him on the boundary (which I applaud, and Ross Lyon said would cost us ) , knowing Yze is up in the box.

  8. Can't help but feel bad for Hunty, he had a great year before he went down with injury. Played with a heap of tenacity and provided so much spring off half-back. Probably my number one favourite thing to watch in any Dees game is seeing Hunty put the burners on and sprint through the middle of the ground, ball in hand. He directly generated a bunch of scores from his runs off HB. Would love to see him back in the team next year (replacing Hibbo maybe?) and get a crack at becoming a premiership player like his team mates.

  9. A real improver this year. Helped by being played in his 'best' position. It was really sad that he missed the finals after missing the 2018 finals. Who knows if he wasn't injured he would be a premiership player. Nonetheless, his sheer joy after the GF showed how well he dealt with any disappointment and exemplified 'being a good teammate'. . Its no secret that he is my equal number one favourite player. He is OOC next year and a RFA. A bit of talent and competition coming up the ranks. Hope he stays.

  11. Some further good news! Simon Goodwin to be offered a new contract extension to continue as coach of the Melbourne Football Club. As a Premiership coach Simon now holds the upper hand in any contract negotiations. I suspect he will be offered either a 3 to 5 year contract extension by the Melbourne Football Club. Fingers crossed we get a few more Premierships at the Demons while he is coach! Here is the article about it: https://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/afl-fixture-2022-melbourne-primed-for-marquee-time-slots/news-story/3b110fb7514add22a86b6b7d4a79d033

  12. Hahahahaha! Good idea! I probably should! Just not while working! 😂 I just think Mark "Choco" Williams is fantastic. I cannot sing his praises high enough. I was absolutely over the moon when we recruited him as head of our development at the end of last year in 2020. Some people thought he was mad, and maybe he is a little bit, but we have won our first Premiership since 1964 and I believe he had a massively positive influence on our players and it is worth crowing about!

  14. He’s not a boy anymore. But still only 24 and should now be entering into his perfect age bracket to break out. Potential. So much potential. A big preseason ahead. I’d like to see him do a SAS type preseason. Conquer his fears. Gym work. Get angry on the field. Positive belief. Hours and hours and hours of kicking for goal. Hours and hours and more hours of marking of the footy.

  16. I think it was after Fritsch's 2nd goal in the third ... the one where he and Gawn flew for it ... the coaches & staff on the boundary are pumped because we're right back in it ... but Chocco just gazes on impassively. It's all going to plan. No big deal. Ice in his veins.

  17. The more you hear about this year and the the hub last year, the more I think that while Williams and Yze brought incremental improvements - the flag was birthed out of the guidance and drive of Goodwin with the support of his leaders on the field. He should be rewarded as much as we can within the soft cap allowances. Or pay the luxury tax - we can probably afford it.

  21. Honestly, do you think when you look back at this moment in the future you’ll think ‘it’s such a shame no one can see the bottom 3rd of my face. That’s the real story here’? Enjoy it for what it is. It’s a Premiership cup, with our name on it!

  24. This is the most significant part of the article: "The eight events are being organised outside the Melbourne Football Club’s control by event company, DAPS Entertainment". And odd attitude by the promoter: "I’ve got large overheads. I book all the players though their agents, not the club. I’ve got to hire the venue and the venues aren’t cheap. There’s tech crews, memorabilia and it all adds up... “I will not run these events at a loss. I’m not in the events business to lose money. I’ve got to cover my costs and hopefully make something in return from it". It sounds like he has engaged the players directly through their managers. Presumably the club has no control over their external promotion/appearance contracts. But gee whizz this is effectively promoting the MFC's Flag and importantly using the MFC Brand which could so easily be tarnished by this guy, so hopefully someone at the club has endorsed it. I wonder if he is using an official AFL replica Cup...

  25. Let's say it is $30 and a70,000 attend. That's a cool $2,100,000. That $2,100,000 can be used towards a belated thorough analysis the 2018 Preliminary Final.

  26. Ray, people will come, Ray. They'll come to Iowa for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up your driveway, not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at your door as innocent as children, longing for the past. "Of course, we won't mind if you look around," you'll say. "It's only twenty dollars per person." They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it. For it is money they have and peace they lack. I think we should charge $20.

  27. I wouldn't be surprised if the Melbourne Football Club offered him a 5 year contract. Simon Goodwin played a pivotal role in breaking our 57 year drought. We cannot forget this! Especially, when many of us have suffered through many many years of heartache and disappointment. It is time to cash in with sustained success a fresh batch of Premiership Cups to go into the cabinet at the Melbourne Football Club. The world is Simon Goodwin's oyster now. Many of us, if we were allowed to do so, would want to give Simon a massive hug and say thank you for what he has done to bring joy to our lives as Demons supporters. We also need to be mindful that if we don't lock in Simon with a long term contract that the Crows or even Port Power might come sniffing around wanting to snatch him away to help their own teams in South Australia. Let's give Simon as Demons coach the best opportunity to bring about a new Demons Dynasty that will rival the one we had in the 1950s and early 1960s.

  28. Not sure about that, but I reckon there's a way if Choco is keen to scale his role back to purely hands on with the players in skill acquisition drills at training that he could do for years and years to come. He could be 80 and if he's still in good health teaching guys how to kick properly, how to handball and how not to fumble.

  31. Pointless comparison. No way to compare what was a local amateur suburban competition to a nationwide professional one. Like comparing a T Model Ford to a Tesla. Best to honour great players in context of their own era.

  32. I seriously doubt that you will be able to have a photo with the Premiership Cup at this event anyway. Can you imagine the line for that? With 10, 20, 30, 40, or 50,000 plus people there (or whatever the cap is) there is simply no way that is logistically possible.

  33. Why oh why would either of you want to take a 21 year old premiership defender out of his position he held down for 19 games and an entire finals series with no problems? It's Tomlinsons problem now to try and break into a premiership side

  34. Gary Hardeman was a great CHB in the era where CHF were only 185-193 but now with CHF being 194-202 his ability to jump would make him very tired in the 2nd half of games. The fact that players today have only one job makes them fitter and faster than yester year. I have followed the MFC since 1952 and never saw players like Don Cordner, Ivo Warne-Smith, Jack Mueller, Norm Smith Allan La Fontaine, Percy Beams and Albert Chadwick at all. Also prior to the 1950's teams played 4 ruckmen one in the FP, BP and 2 Ruckmen until the advent of the Ruck Rover like Ron Barassi, Serge Silvagni and Ted Whitten. As you can see football has evolved to 2021 where 2 specialist ruckmen have now re appeared but they are now midfielders as well, not lumbering crash and bash players. Changes in the rules has made the lumbering ruckman obsolete like Terry Gleeson. The Cordners where 193-194cm tall and would now be cannon fodder as ruckmen to the modern 200-211cm ruckmen. The MFC team of the century was ok in the 1900's but would struggle against the 2021 professional Demons. The great MFC teams had great rovers which today don't get a look in, Viney at 178cm is tall verses 170cm rovers of yester year.

  41. I semi agree with you and then I think; Chris Scott was gifted a Premiership in his first year. Goody has earned his and if we trust him for another 5, I would think that might even be astute. Yes, yes, the above could be interpreted as another 5 flags! Think big I say!

  42. Has shown humility in acknowledging the contributions of many others to our success and an ability to re-invent himself after the disaster of 2019. Also it’s obvious the players love him as evidenced by the re-signing of our stars. So, I wouldn’t be unhappy if the CLub go for a long term contract.

  46. As Anthony Hudson said in a PF, with the Swans and Cats I think it was, " I see it but I don't believe it". It is some of the most powerful, perfect, team football I have ever seen and in a GF to boot. It just brings tears to the eyes of the long suffering Dees fans, well mine at least.

  48. Coming out of lockdown my Family got together on Saturday night in our colours had a BBQ and then watched the Granny together. We talked a lot laughed a lot and loved every minute of every great play and goal that we have memorised and then watched the presentation together for the first time. It was a memorable night apart from me almost burning down my daughters BBQ. This Granny is something that we will remember for the rest of our lives.💕❤️💙
