  1. Yes....from Demonwiki: http://demonwiki.org/Roy+Park "After his football career ended Park threw himself into a cricket career and earned a test call-up for Australia against England at the MCG during the 1920-21. He was dismissed for a golden duck in his first innings and urban legend has it that his wife dropped her knitting as he faced his first ball and therefore missed his entire test batting career. "

  2. I signed up for a digital membership, and I already regret it. Firstly I can already tell given the AFL is running the digital memberships that it is going to be a big dumpster fire, as apparently the membership and tickets are loaded together as the fixture gets released. Trusting the AFL to do anything digitally, especially in combination with the powerhouse that is Ticketmaster (remember the joys of trying to buy finals tickets on their server?) doesn't sound good. Had I known the digital membership was being run by the AFL I wouldn't have signed up for it. Secondly, they still mailed me a pack, which is pointless because I asked for a digital membership to save on paper, and the pack itself was completely empty except for a thank you pin for sticking with the club in 2020. WTF? If you are going to waste postage and trees and plastic, all the things I specifically didn't want, can you at least send me some stickers so I can drive around in my 4WD with my Melbourne sticker like a [censored]?! Uncool.

  3. Some other key notes. - Jack Carroll was a player of interest, but the order of players they had he just wasn't in that position for them to draft him. - Deakyn Smith will be training with the Dees after the new year. - Taj Woewodin has been invited to train after the new year. - Still deciding whether to offer Kobe Farmer an opportunity or not.

  4. Agree. Rosman is a huge athlete. Pace. Endurance. Size. Can’t wait to see how he develops. Bowey and Laurie. I think JT went for the most skilful kids available at our picks. Perhaps they are the two most skilled in the draft. Good signs.

  5. Good, since I recommitted to them last month, as one does. BTW have recently sampled the Fuchsia Gin put out by our gin sponsor. Very good, distinctive, with floral undertones. Suggest you G&T fans give it a crack.

  6. Personally, I think the exciting thing about this Pick is that we have recruited an 18 year old, Jewish, Carpenter.

  7. I think the exciting thing with this pick, is we have taken a player who has a number of attributes, who might be able to be developed into a very good player. We can then live in hope we have got a very good one. With some other players, you know what you are getting, as they were at their best in the younger competitions and may not improve much when playing against the big boys. That is a pretty common trait among many draftees over the years. Take Toumpas as an example, who was a very good player among his age group, but just couldn't improve in the AFL and didn't make it as an AFL player. We all know drafting is an inexact craft, every recruiter has had failures as that is the way of recruiting. With this kid Rosman, who has many attributes, such height, speed and endurance as examples, we have a base to work on, that may have a very high ceiling and that is exciting, as we take the journey with him.

  9. This is a genuine request for other people's opinions and insight. Hopefully it doesn't crash the internet! It seems to me that most areas of our list are now quite well stocked for now and for succession. We have many tall forwards, many small forwards, a variety of the running half-back types, many inside mids, a gun mature ruck and a young ruck, one outstanding winger and an list of options to experiment with for another winger or winger/forward. The part I'm not convinced is settled is in defense. Specifically, in the near future or in the event of any injury - one tall defender and one small defender. I can see that there are options including Tomlinson, Smith, Hore, and Petty for the tall, but I'm unclear which can fit as a genuine key defender rather than as a looser (not loser) role. Petty certainly has fans on here and I'd be keen to hear from them. Nobody can walk up and replace the deep character of Neville Jetta but someone sooner or later will need to take over his more material role on field. The list of options seems even shorter (figuratively and literally) for this one, despite the gap appearing more imminent. Like Petty, Lockhart has a few people solidly in his corner. After that it seems we have to talk about either attempting to develop some of our younger midfielders to be disciplined, or making the role a top priority of the 2021 draft. So, what are people's thoughts on the need for and best means of filling the future gorilla-keeper and ferret-herder roles?

  11. Before y'all go shoot'n me down, gotta get yo teach on about where I been at all day. I gots all them words all up in my face and it ain't pretty. By which I mean to say - good pick-up. I've been reading and taking notes on a pile of writing today that is all in 'American' so it must have infected me. It's important that we all monitor these things and purge them with bursts of hideous stereotype before the letter 'u' becomes critically endangered.

  12. Why do so many supporters dismiss Jay Lockhart? Easily The best small defender Developing and was outrageously left out from about Round 12 in 2020 by a Coach who just stopped developing him. Faith in ability needs to be shown fir confidence and Jays style and dare are just what our backline needs from the BP.

  13. Australia Post must spend a fortune on storage and freight. I would have thought it cheaper to deliver the mail rather than store and move it. I have posted a letter in the Mansfield post office addressed to a Mansfield Post Office Box. It is sent to Melbourne for sorting then sent back to Mansfield mail centre where they resort and send to the Post Office where they put it in the post box just 4 metres from where I posted it in the first place! You have to wonder.

  16. The most interesting parts for me: - Bowey is going to start with the defenders. Which I like. Confirms what I saw in his footage that his best attribute is his ability to change angles and kick quickly and accurately. - Laurie will be with the forwards but has midfield potential. Great spacial awareness and ability to release a team mate in space - Petty resuming training with the defenders - Nietschke always finding the ball at training (which I’ve witnessed). Will be with the wingers - Sparrow made good progress last year Is Deakyn Smith still eligible to be added as a cat B rookie? If he is I’d imagine he’s a decent chance to get a year if he trains well.

  18. Agree OD. Talk about Premiership Windows is a load of cods. Just another device to talk about nothing. Like predicting the share market. Just guesswork and opinion. I cant remember talk about premiership windows when the Dogs or Tigers got up. They won enough games to get into the finals and when they did they had opportunity, luck, were injury free and played great footy, like we did for two finals matches in 2018. You can retroactively go back and place teams in PW to fit the narrative but for a predictor for the future it seems very dodgy. Just go out there and consistently win games and become a successful club. Please! Time is running out for many.

  19. Thanks to all for organizing the interview with JT - he is certainly a straightshooter - hopefully our forwards will capture a lot of that in 2021 :) I'm hoping that the 3 Victorian lads have slipped under the radar a bit given their lack of exposed form in 2020. Obviously this can go both ways but he seemed quietly confident. I realize that Rosman is a bit of a smoky but he seemed genuinely keen on his potential - lets hope he can develop quickly and take hold on one wing as his own

  21. Great Sponsor, great product. Get behind a Victorian company. I've been sprucing up the property recently and the double discount has been saving me a lot of dollars. Sign up for a Haymes discount card and then show your MFC members card. Yes I live in Ballarat but seriously the product they produce is awesome and at a seriously competitive price.

  23. So we shouldn't expect to see him until about age 30, where he will develop a cult following after displaying some freakish ability, before being brutally cut from the list? Guess after that we can re-draft him during the mid-season draft the following year to revive his career.

  24. MELBOURNE Flag window: Barely ajar On paper, the Dees’ premiership window should be open. In practice though, promise has rarely resulted in solid, consistent performances since 2018. With Ben Brown providing a much needed outlet up forward, there aren’t any areas that in theory should be major issues in 2021. With elite talent on tap, all the Dees need to do is put the pieces together and execute consistently in order to be a finals / premiership threat. Until they show they’re actually capable of playing at a high level consistently though, the premiership window can’t be anything more than barely ajar for Simon Goodwin and his men.

  26. In normal years there’s a few players drafted on their under 17 form but mostly it’s assessing guys in their 18th year. In theory there should be a handful of Clayton Oliver, Bontempelli type bolters who would’ve jumped up in addition to next years crop. So possibly a few players per round in the draft more than usual. The counter to that is those guys are eligible for the midseason draft as far as I know. So if they come on strongly in the early games they could be snapped up mid year.

  27. I say this with a lot of hope and optimism every year goes by is like a hand full of goes left to see us with the Premiership . Held up high for all of the supporters to see. The group has to be mentally prepared and that is our Achilles heel. IMO we have the mix of the in our personnel. It just comes down to us in believing..... There is no window..in my IMV it comes down to the right combination and we have it.

  29. According to The Encyclopedia of AFL Footballers and other sources, Charles was in in fact 182cm tall, or just a tad under six foot in the old money. That is more in keeping of how I remember him rather than him being a mere 175cm.

  32. Funny how people relate size and physique to being a good footballer. Based on that theory, Majak Daw should have a few Brownlow's by now. Thank God some of you blokes didn't see a young Rob Flower at his first few training outings. A stick figure with glasses like the bottoms of coke bottles!

  34. Go to 11:29 @DeeSpencer I think you owe Jason Taylor an apology. Not only did you kick up a big fuss over the Max Holmes debacle you still didn't provide any evidence. Jason Taylor pretty much confirmed that while we were interested to some degree, we had hoped that he would be there at our 3rd pick. Taylor was not fazed one bit that Geelong jumped in early.

  35. I'm not sold on the Saints, a lot of teams have good first up seasons with a new coach (unless they've bottomed out) let's see how they go in Rattens sophomore season. They have talent on the list but not enough to push for Prelims/Premierships in my eyes. Billings, Gresham, Lonie all too inconsistent. Steele is very good, not sold yet on King (I don't think he's as good as his brother), Clark and Coffield are just decent soldiers so far. They don't have the game breaking ability that the top sides do.

  38. Went from 'good' to 'art'. The entire arc of Davey's long kicks became so perfect that sometimes I just watched the ball fly and lost track of the game for a moment. Of course, Fraser Rosman has almost nothing in common with Aaron Davey except his species, y chromosome and red-and-blue jumper. But that's enough for me to be sure he'll come along nicely.

  39. I agree I believe Greg Williams is one is the best players I've seen live, not that quick, could barely kick 40 was small but he was a Super player. And just quietly got a Brownlow ripped off a him. Me and my Carlton mate was at the game at Princess Park where we got our pants pulled down he crushed us and for no Brownlow Votes. He might a got one, can't remember, but that match cost him. Size is handy but great players come in all shapes and sizes. Hopefully our lads can produce something similar.

  41. I stumbled upon and watched the GWS draft night video. Some observations - - Clubs didn't enter selections via computer, they rang them through - GWS didn't rate Cox or Perkins in their group of players they targeted. They must have rated Reid. They were happy to get Bruhn. (could sense some dislike towards the Bombers) - Chapman was on their list but Freo took him. They then took Stone who they rated. - They were going to select Laurie with pick 24. When we picked him they did a trade with Collingwood for their future 1st pick

  42. So the teams who finished top 4 in 2020 are wide open, those who finished in the 8 are open, the bottom 4 are shut and the rest are somewhere in between ? Brilliant summer filler ?

  47. And you have seen them play how many times or you just looking at their Bio's and limited footage that the club/AFL has put up. Why don't we wait and see how these guys go after a pre-season and we get to see them play either at AFL or VFL level before we make any judgements. The best thing about AFL is there is 18 positions on the ground that are filled by players of varying height and body sizes. We had a 177cm Brownlow medallist this year, that isn't overly quick but he can find the Footy, work through traffic and hit targets.
