So if we're getting him for free, what's the issue? Outside of the 4 year deal, we aren't giving up a whole lot to get him and he's an upgrade on anyone else we have running around on a wing. If we also snare Langdon, and KK can get over the concussion issues (which is a big IF), then we've upgraded what we have running around the wings immensely from this season. That can only be seen as a win.15 points

I don't suppose anyone's spotted OMac touring, well, anywhere? I'd be seriously [censored] if Frost left while the other stayed.8 points

he's tall, strong, durable, and versatile in previous years teams have been willing to give up mid-first round picks for him we're getting him for free, right when he should be about to play the best football of his career it's a winner8 points

This is WHY this club is a Basket Case. We have a player who will finish top 6 in our B & F, we haggle over a few bucks, He has improved out of site YET WE KEEP DUDS like Oscar, ANB, Spargo, JKH, Stretch and others FMD If he goes to hawks two things will happen 1 I'll believe our List management team has NO idea and that might nearly be it for me I'll be Ropeable!! 2 Watch Clarko make him into an All Australian. JUST GIVE HIM A GOOD DEAL MFC another 100 K won't break the bank. He had a very good year! Here's an idea Put Spargo on Billy Stretch's Shoulders, GAFFER tape both of them together, Put a number 17 Jumper over both and let them play in Frosties Role!! FMD7 points

Classic Melbourne. Frost is no super star but at least we gets on the park each week and provides us with some run and dash which we severely lack.7 points

I was by no means happy with the team's output this season, but I'll be blowed if I'm going to extend the complaining to Jack Viney eating an ice cream on holiday, or thinking that denying them a break would help And if I need to feel depressed I can just come on here and read more than 36,000 of your posts, 99.9% of which are negative. You should take a break for your own well-being. Constant and relentless negativity isn't good for you or anyone else. If you feel the need to come on here and make 20 posts a day that are complaining and carping about this football club, you should also question the influence supporters like you are having on how the Melbourne Football Club is regarded and the reason it might be considered "irrelevant". Although, luckily, some keyboard warrior on Demonland is hardly relevant or influential either. When the club's own supporters are overwhelmingly and relentlessly bleating, what hope have we got of ever being positive about the future of this great club?7 points

This doesn’t surprise me. I doubt he was talking about the beginning of the season so much as when it became clear that plan A wasn’t working and we started making adjustments on the fly to turn things around. Goody has said on a couple of occasions that he though that they tinkered too much with the game plan. None of that would have been bedded down and we were implementing it with a team down on confidence. Although the midfield group was fairly intact for the season both forward and back lines were in constant flux and often in disarray. In the forward line TMac played poorly in the beginning of the year and seemed to go into his shell, not that uncommon when poor form hits. When he did start to turn things around he got injured. Melksham was out most of the season, Weid was struggling, Hannan wasn’t around, there were a lot of youngsters effectively trying out without any real leadership around them. You knew there were problems when they moved Lewis down there to provide some leadership. In defence there was at least Frost, Salem and Hibberd as stable players but the structure around them changed virtually every game. Lever joined only later in the season, May was in and out as was Hore and Jetta. Teams tend to play best when players are able to play their natural game and the coach puts in structures to support them, that was a big part o f the Tigers turn around. Dimma realised he was over coaching and concentrating on what people couldn’t do rather than what they were great at. Look at how much better Fritsch looks in the forward line playing his natural game. When you try to force an unnatural structure onto people they need significantly more coaching and management, without runners I can’t see that working. Imagine if you tried building a game plan that forced Clarry to play on the outside? You would have to send a runner out every 5 minutes to remind him not to dive in and put his head over the ball. It is too easy and simplistic to just blast coaches and players for being terrible teachers and leaders. The truth is far more complicated, and improvement is not going to be about sacking all the on field leaders. It is far more likely to come from building a game plan that lets players play their natural game and simple rules and strategies to implement when things are turning against us. That allows everyone to be an on field leader. Having a stable team with key people on the field week in week out will also make a big difference, along with an uninterrupted preseason where they really embed the game plan and lock in player roles.6 points

This is an indictment on our leaders and or coaching staff to use the players rotating through to pass on messages.6 points

Yes its not a flashy signing. It might be a bit Vanilla but its of lower risk. - Has been durable, playing the last 80 games for GWS (bar the one on the weekend) - Will be able to run out games with his elite endurance (something a lot of our players have not done well) - His size gives us a marking option further up the ground so our forwards aren't stuck on the wings as often - Loves to run and spread, a catalyst for something GWS do so well and something we desperately need - Has played finals four years in a row. Was close to best on ground in the prelim against Richmond in 2017 - He can pinch hit in the ruck so our forwards don't have to and has played both back and fwd if needed. True utility If the rumors are true I for one am very keen to see this guy cementing a spot in our side on the wing and playing consistent footy for us. He's a solid mark and has decent inside/rebound 50 numbers across his career. He played in a very deep side for his position at GWS and he could really add what this side is in need of.6 points

Sounds like we are still keen to sign him going by this quote: “When contacted by The Age, Frost's manager Anthony McConville said he was yet to receive a formal contract offer from Melbourne, but he was confident the two parties were having positive discussions. "He's been told he's a required player at Melbourne," McConville said”6 points

Definitely a player we could use. @Patches O’houlihan from what I've seen he kicks well on both sides. He plays his best football on the wing. Although as others have stated he can play a variety of roles with his size and endurance. He has always been able to pinch hit in the ruck which would be really handy for us in not having to use a forward in this role. He doesn't rack up a lot of the football but because of his running he is able to run and spread into space (a major part of GWS's gameplan) to open up the ground. He is a decent contested mark as well. Something we've been desperate for further up the ground. We badly need more players who can take a solid mark (other then Max) to relieve pressure in the middle of the ground. To me its a no brainer. We badly missed a bigger body playing up the ground this year and although he doesn't have the same grunt and physical presence AVB has he can definitely play that wing/high HF role consistently. You know what you're going to get from him. His stat breakdown shows he was a bit down on inside 50's this year but as you can see from his stats he contributes in a number of key areas. https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pg-greater-western-sydney-giants--adam-tomlinson?year=20196 points

We may not give any draft picks up to get Thomlinson, but we will need to give a decent 4 year deal and he does take up a spot on the list. Is he better than what we currently have? Yes. Is he spot on what we need? Not sure, wouldn't exactly call him an elite outsider. It could be argued that the SC space that Thomlinson would fill could be used as part of a deal getting a bigger fish this year, next year or the year after. It's not as easy as saying "he costs us nothing".6 points

Yeah let’s trade a player who has SPEED because we have soo many other players who are fast. He is obviously surplus to our needs. Bloody [censored].5 points

He's improved since this. We'd be mad to get rid of him. He'll be our best defender within 3 years I reckon. His disposal has improved steadily this year.5 points

Goodwin started the year in the box before moving to the bench didn't he? And the McCarney problems. So there's coaching issues not just playing issues. Backline: No Lewis, no Jetta, no May, missing Lever for more than half the year. Midfield: We should've been better organised with Viney and Gawn here but the wings are the structural players and they were a disaster Forwards: No Melksham, Tom McDonald unable to get a kick for half the season. Coach subbed half way through the year The lack of continuity in players might have made it close to impossible for even Hodge, Hurn and Selwood to steer this years playing group around the park.5 points

We paid 3 first rounders for Lever and May. In 2019 Frost outperformed both of them. He also got on the park. It’d be a blow to lose him for two key reasons: 1 - He’s currently our best lock down tall. He’s also the only one who can get on the park, so he wins by default 2 - He has pace, which is a key thing we lack He’s by no means a perfect footballer or superstar, but he plays a role and is durable. That’s more than can be said for the majority of our players at this point.5 points

Clarko would turn Frosty into an All Australian defender. Frosty is quick, a hard at it competitor, can play on small or tall, and should be a required defender even with Lever and May in the side. Letting him go would be madness.5 points
-
I understand the people who are saying he doesn't necessarily address our need for outside speed. His arrival could free up someone whose pace and disposal isn't being used to full effect (ie. Melksham) into a more damaging position. However, even if he dislodges one player from our current best 22, then he improves our team. I'm very happy to have any quality player (especially a free agent) who wants to join our club.5 points

I felt the same way. I rarely feel sorrow over the death of strangers but I felt a serious blow over this. Grief is a strange beast.5 points

I wish someone would post the 'out on the full' kick he made after this tackle. It's a much more accurate representation of what he offers the team.4 points

Keath? Not in Frosts league. Had a good year but a stopper type full back. We need Frosty at CHB. Played 22 games. That’s more than Lever and May. All 3 make an imposing backline.4 points

He's a funny unit Sam. he athletically is amazing but he does some bizzare things, i think he's a talanted individual but the amount of times he flies at balls he shouldn't and does weird things with ball in hand. you kinda want guys who just fill a role, especially down back and i think Sam is probably one who has currency,4 points

GWS utility Adam Tomlinson is set to return home to Victoria and join Melbourne this off-season, reports Nine. The 26-year-old had played 80 of 81 games for the Giants before being dropped for the elimination final win over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday. An unrestricted free agent this year, Tomlinson has often been linked to St Kilda and Carlton in previous trade periods but is now likely to sign with the Demons. The Dees will lure Tomlinson on a lengthy deal, likely to be four years. What do Demonlanders think?4 points

Tomlinson is best mates with Dom Tyson (I think both went to Trinity Grammar). They do a mini pre season together over the off season at Camberwell Sports Ground. Dom speaks very highly of him and says that he "runs rings around him" in both time trials and sprints. I know it's not a ringing endorsement on Tyson's account, but I think he would be a very handy pick up seeing as we have lost a Utility in Kielty and could possibly lose another in T.Smith.3 points

Loss to the game and the football community, a genuine nice guy, character of the game who gave back at grassroots and left a smile on the face of many who met him. RIP Spud thoughts are with Anita and all the family3 points

Heard the news before it was released to the media and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since..truly devastating. Danny was one of the good guys. Has hit home hard for me and I’m not entirely sure why...perhaps because he has three daughters and myself two, but I feel genuinely devastated for his wife and girls. No matter how someone appears overtly on the surface, we never really know how they are feeling inside. RIP Spud, I have always admired you, my condolences to your family and close friends.3 points

My 5yo great-nephew plays AFL for the Lantau Lizards in Hong Kong. Two weeks ago Spud was there for an inter-club carnival, giving the kids tips: The side of him few people would see how much and how far he went to give back to the game. He touched so many. RIP.3 points
