  1. Well boys today might just as well be my last ever Casey game Its been a hell of a 5 years for Dec and the family and I hope he tears it up today in defence like he did last week

  2. Drunkn your support for your brother and your contribution to this board have been second to none. You should be proud of Dec as I am sure you and your family are. Best of luck to Dec and yourself in the future and I am sure you will always be welcome on the board at anytime.

  3. If you don’t want to renew next year mate then don’t, that’s fine and you are well within your rights to do so given the reasons you’ve pointed out. It is a choice after all... For me...id rather keep coughing up regardless, because (if and) when we do finally break that drought and snag a flag...whenever the hell that may be, I’ll know myself that I have truly supported the club through thick and thin and i reckon that might make things that little bit sweeter. At the very least, no one I know has ever been able to accuse me of being a bandwagon supporter. We are a laughing stock no doubt, but my family and mates respect me for sticking by this basket case of a club. Makes me feel a bit better about things anyway...

  4. I’ve hidden a number of posts on this thread which add nothing to the discussion other than to indicate that everything’s about themselves and not the subject at hand. Any repeat will see an automatic ban. Thanks

  5. never even a question in my mind. Our club , more than almost all others, is really affected by member drop offs. unless i’m dead , ill always renew

  6. The thought of not renewing has never crossed my mind. My husband, daughter and dog will also get their membership renewed again. My parents and grandparents would roll over in their graves if I ever stopped being a member of the MFC. I think I would be haunted forever.

  7. Hore was a proven performer at AFL level prior to breaking his collarbone. That is why people were clamouring for his inclusion.

  8. Thanks @KC from Casey, really appreciate the amount of effort you've put into these updates across the season.

  9. And yet Brisbane are sitting on top of the ladder with the second youngest list. I agree age and experience is obviously a factor, but it’s not an excuse.
    10 points
  10. For sure. We have the best list we’ve had in 12 years. When Gus Clarry Trac etc are all 25-30yo we will be a force. Just need our coaching and maybe admin to get its [censored] together. Stick tight folks

  11. @Lucifer's Hero posted this at the start of the year, somehow it tells the tale of the tape before you add in injuries: The Roar has produced player list analysis: Team Profiles The Average isn't the best measure; I prefer The Mean Median. Nonetheless, the Roar tables are a good indicator of each team. I was a bit surprised to see Collingwood so high in the age profiles. The likes of Lewis and Jones are raising our age profile somewhat. For us to finish 4th in 2018 when on average age we were 9th and average experience we were 12th shows what a mighty effort it was by the club. An interesting comment from the article: "Overall the numbers hint at a few possible conclusions, one being that putting heavy 2019 expectations on the likes of Melbourne, Fremantle and Essendon because of their notable trade period recruits might be a little premature. Of these three sides, only one – Essendon – is in the top eight for age, and they are eighth. None is in the top eight for experience. That’s not to say that these lists aren’t capable of achieving great things in 2019, but instead that they are still some distance from hitting their high-water mark in terms of talent maturity". Nonetheless, the expectations on us will indeed be 'heavy' and we will rise to the occasion! Edit: change 'Mean' to 'Median' —- i find the line about expectations quite prescient in the article quoted. In 2020 we will lose Lewis, but have gotten games into lots of players. Hopefully this sets us up to be more competitive for longer.

  12. I’ve been a member for 34 years, the last 16 as an interstate member and make at least one trip a year over east to watch a game. I wouldn’t consider myself a fair weather supporter. There just comes a time when enough is enough.

  13. This club could drag me down the Monash Freeway by the balls and then hose me down with vinegar and for some reason id still renew. Kills me but I bloody love the joint. Already endured the worst of the worst, so why would I stop now. Deep down I must get off on this [censored]. Bring it on.

  17. still 100% believe this young list will do something very special, and we will bounce back hard next year so i will be a member again

  20. Yes, definitely. Including the GF guarantee. I'll be looking towards season 2020 with hope. Hope that my friends and I can finally get seats together in the same row of level 2 of the Northern Stand if enough Tridents members don't renew. Having lived overseas for much of the last 20 years I only returned 4 years ago so have missed a lot of the bad years, including the Neeld era so am not as jaded or disillusioned as some DL's. These days we try to make the day about more than the game itself so go for brunch together before an early game or search out a new craft brewery for lunch if we have a later start. The craic will usually be about anything other than football. This means the day isn't at risk of being sabotaged by what the MFC serve up each week and a win just tops off a great day. It works really well, usually, but I have to admit that from QB on this year I've felt little enthusiasm in going to watch our team play. This side gave up weeks ago and we all know it so I don't blame any fans for deciding to 'take a spell' and do something else with their time. Mental health experts might even recommend it.

  23. Here is the "Doom Loop" as Brendan Gale envisioned when he joined the Tigers in 2011. The "doom loop" is actually a common concept in the corporate world, albeit used sparingly because people are too scared or fearful of negativity and realism. This fear leads to unrealistic expectations and targets, because optimism leads to overly optimistic goals and targets. Essentially and simply the "loop" suggests that any negative impact both precedes and proceeds another impact, eventually forming a loop. So, negative on field performance impacts attendance, membership, and brand power, which impacts sponsorship, which impacts revenue, which impacts spending power, which impacts resources, which impacts on field performance, which impacts.. and round and round. What I am getting at is that, regardless as to whether or not you or I purchase memberships, there is an impact caused by and causing towards poor on field performance. Rather than saying, "We need your support", the club should be asking, "Why don't we have their support". We know that attendance the last few weeks has been poor and will impact the bottom line. Round and round and it's a vicious cycle...but you can break it. Another thread a few weeks ago spoke about "brand" and "identity" and some here ridiculed the concept. "Just play good footy!" they cried. But it is more than that. If the environment lacks a vision, coherence, realism, and accountability, eventually it all tumbles. Pert, Goodwin, Mahoney and co have a lot of work to do. Previously they have ignored the Doom Loop and instead painted a rosy picture, which some here have gobbled up like turkeys at feeding time. Goodwin now appears to have reached breaking point and sees the loop formed. He is angry and frustrated at both the process and himself: this is the first step towards redemption. He has let those around him down. No more pointing the fingers at each other, or at members that don't renew or don't show up. Instead look at the start of the loop and ask why it got to where it is. I'm more confident now that we can turn it around because Goodwin has admitted they [censored] up -- thus being "negative" -- rather than before when we were saying it was an anaomoly, all is well, we will bounce back, etc etc. How will you bounce back? What went wrong? What is the impact? How do you quantify the impact? For the first time ever the club has actually come out and said, "We stuffed up". And now the Doom Loop is vulnerable. But it became full circle when we had Barlett saying the year was an anaomoly with absolutely no context, solution, or rational reasoning. so if someone doesn't want to renew, my response is, "Okay, we are here: how did we arrive?"

  28. Yes I will be renewing my membership, been a member for over 20 years and followed the club for nearly 60 years and got to see "The Good , The Bad and The Very Ugly" during this time. Last year was a revelation and we still have that core of players at the club, we need to bring in some top talent to help support these players.and continue to build quality depth around the club.

  31. After their disasters: Do you mean before Bevo was appointed coach. At the end of 2015 2014 they sacked their coach and traded out their captain. Do you mean after the premiership and they fell to 10th in 2017? They retired their captain and an ex-captain. They traded out a leading goal kicker and fan favourite (Stringer). They read the riot act to a few 'untouchables' eg Liberatore, Dahlhaus. They sacked their List Manager/favourite son (Jason McCartney) who had compiled their premiership team. The Bulldogs have not shied away from the tough decisions on players or staff regardless of club loyalties and done so without fear nor favour. I hope our club can do the same. Edit: change 2015 to 2014

  35. Absolutely...I am confident of next year & regard my membership as just a way of supporting the club I choose to follow ...unfortunately in life sometimes things don’t go the way you wish but I could never support another club

  36. I will support a club that values me as a member. I don't think it's smart to just follow anything with blind loyalty. If they are open, listen to members views and take action then they get my money. If they try to deflect & not take the hard questions at the AGM then they lose me.

  37. So all in all there are 7 memberships in my family: - Grandma has an armchair membership as she’s 101 and watches from her armchair. Was a Fitzroy/Brisbane member but when Roos came to Melbourne she switched because she love him. Will re-sign next year - Dads sister is also and armchair as is in her 70s and still works full time by financial necessity. Will re-sign - Dad passed away in January at 66 years of age ?. 9 game member. Will not re-sign - My 3 kids all kids members of various types. Will re-sign so they get their kids stuff and because my wife’s side all follow dogs so don’t want the kids to drift over to the dark side - I have a 9 game membership and will downgrade to 3 game as I work a lot on weekends, plus have kids sport and can’t be arsed with the effort when we play like s h I t e. Also want to be able to tell the person in the membership department how disappointed I am with the effort from the team this year because I know they do pass on the feeling from the fans.

  43. Yes, I will renew for all of us. I try not to worry about the financial aspect even though it’s hard more often than not with 4 young kids. It’s become a great family outing over the last few years (obviously not enjoyable this season). The kids understand the game a bit better now and I’d like to keep it that way. I also understand people have a breaking point, I’ve also asked myself if the time invested on Game Day is really worth it, especially after performances like last night.

  44. This was my thought process every year up until now. But I’m finding it extremely difficult to hand over money to a club whose players clearly don’t care and aren’t trying.

  45. Our little group talked about it last night after the game. Group started with nine of us that became friends during out time in the Redlegs, My father, myself, my wife, our two kids and two other couples. Expanded to eleven with kids partners before fate stepped in and took the first my dad. Then added three more (grandkids) before fate struck again taking two more including my wife. One more added since another grandchild. We are all members and go most weeks, though must admit getting more difficult with kids sport commitments. We will stay members regardless, or until fate steps in again.

  46. To be fair, Oliver has a point. Fritsch executed a pinpoint kick to a team mate in space; this is not ‘the Melbourne way’. However, ANB retrieved the situation by missing the relatively straightforward shot at goal; in keeping with ‘the Melbourne way’.
