  2. Went along as it was close to home. Ground undergoing significant development but pleasingly there's a lot of seating that isn't up in the stand...just seats built into the terraces. Works well. Sausage was burnt, pie was good. Didn't try the lager on top but regularly buy Coburg lager from the local IGA. Its good stuff. Of the MFC boys: -Lewis. Played mostly well, it's either that the team has been told to play through him or he just gets himself open in the right spots, so got a ton of the pill. Either way, his kicking i50 was a highlight. Had a poor final quarter though, began to get caught in traffic and started lining blokes up as he is prone to do. In quite a few situations went for a headhigh bump instead of tackle and was lucky not to connect. Also squibbed a couple of high balls. A good game, not a promotion earning game, but we know his output can be good on his day. -Wagner. Always looks good at this level where he uses his speed and footskills to create. Looks like he knows his better than this and would love to see him bring this confidence to the 1s. However, his best position is definitely as a centre man and I think he's just too slight to ever be damaging at AFL level. Even in VFL, if he gets tackled he pretty much gets pinned for HTB 80% of the time. -Maynard. Opposite to CWag, holds his ground and frame very strongly in the contest and as a result is a key inside distributor at this level. You can tell he's been trained in a good inside midfield AFL setup. Also went forward and pleasingly took a number of good marks where his size stood out. However, for the most part his kicking and decision making lets him down in either finding a teammate or having a shot. But this isn't new news. Is good depth and good to have around a VFL team because he's a good player at this level. Wouldn't be surprised if Casey sign him upon MFC delisting like old mate mitch white. -Dunkley. I watched his VFL debut against Werribee and missed his day out against Collingwood...fair to say he's gotten used to the level from Werribee when he looked off the pace. For a 19 year old he has good size and the confidence to take on tacklers with a decent little sidestep. Is a long kicking player who fits a part time HF / midfield role quite well. There's something to like here no doubt, he seems to have good game sense and spatial awareness and a good inside/outside mix. Will get a game for the Ds at some point this year. He is a natural VDB replacement at a good age without the sheer pace and power, but a bit more craft. Doesn't have Hannans X factor so can't really replace Mitch in the 1s just yet. Saw he kicked a goal in the stats, must have been Casey's first as I did arrive late. Was pleased to see him blocking intelligently for Wagner at a number of stoppages to try and get Corey loose. -Chandler. Is a busy little player who seems to have a thirst for it and good ball skills, but I worry he's just not quick enough to have the weapons required at the top level at his size. A handy player at this level. May have gotten injured as I didn't see him after half time. -Bedford. With a year or two I think this kid might be playing in the 1s. Has some stuff to learn and isn't as skilled as I would like on the run on the outside, but you can see he knows how and when to use his natural pace, but in an unusual kind burst at the contest kind of way. Wins more than his fair share of contests and 1%s for a kid his size and is a willing tackler. Has some spunk and was very happy with his final qtr goal after getting a bit of stick from the very game Coburg crowd. -Bradtke. Is extremely raw in every sense and is out of most contests until the ball is in the air. Is half as thin as those defending him but reads the ball very well mid flight and takes or almost takes most things that come his way. Got the MFC boys in the stand very excited when he nearly took a mark in the goal square before kicking it over his head for a goal. Popular amongst the group it seems. -Keilty. Again, a very good player at this level and is a real leader in this team. Important all day around the ground with his marking/spoiling and tackling. Had one particularly outstanding smother on the half forward flank when Coburg were coming. Has a lot of attributes and with luck will be a Pedersen style journeyman, though his versatility may cost him like it did with Cam. Not brilliant at anything, but good to very good at lots. -Preuss. Absolutely dominated the ruck all day, a number of handy hitouts as well as a strong marking performance particularly in the 1st half. Despite this, I can see why he isn't getting a game beyond structural issues. A number of times at opposition kick outs he would sprint toward the wrong flank and the opposition would just go the other direction to avoid him. Because he only really has one burst in him he then very slowly works his way back across the ground, letting his Coburg man run off him in the process. The lack of tank is an issue they need to fix, and combine that with a bit of game knowledge. Nonetheless, a big strong player who makes the opposition worried. We are lucky to have him as depth. Whilst I don't think he deserves a call up necessarily, old Oscar Mc for Brisbane of Casey of old took a bunch of contested marks against the saints with Stefan Martin playing ruck 1, so this may be a week for Brayden to come in. -KK. Is very slowly getting back into footy. With time and space you can see he has the class and seems to have good running patterns that result in him receiving a lot of ball in threatening overlap positions. However, constantly misweights his kicks and misses targets. Conditions difficult yes, but a stark contrast to Lewis who hits most targets with a quick hand to ball drop. Isn't particularly great in the contest considering his stock but I he was steak knives for a reason. Has a way to go, I hope he doesn't get an MFC game anytime soon. For his sake, needs to have a good run of consistency at this level and hit the targets he should have the skill to hit. -Spargo. Charlie had a bit of a tough day. We know he's a good tackler for his size but when he gets it, seems to want to put a few steps on defenders with misdirection but invariably gets tackled and HTB. Happened several times. Has a bit too much instruction flowing through his head which is natural for a stint of 2nd year blues. Was called out at 3qtr time as someone who needed to give a bigger effort and he responding by Grassing a sitter in the goal square when Casey needed a goal after a well weighted pass from Maynard. Having an ordinary year. -JKH. Thought he was clearly in the top 3 on ground, was kicking with purpose and is noticeable he has better stamina at this level than most. Halved a number of contests he had no right to and generally ran hard and linked up all day, hit a lot of targets. May get a call up if a mystery injury to a mid/HFF happens. At this stage, I probably prefer him to ANB to be honest. -Jordon. Was very young when we drafted him and they've thrown him to the wolves by playing him in the guts for a number of weeks now. Gives his all against bigger bodies and is tougher than I thought he would be. The flipside is his kicking isn't what it is renowned for. Nonetheless, needs a couple of years down here and may be a player one day. Appears very coachable and compliant. Think that's everyone. The MFC boys were there in good numbers with no noticeable limps (I checked Viney as he pulled up in the last few minutes on Saturday). Frost very generous with his time to a number of passer-bys. Jetta part of defensive huddles. Baker seems in with the cool group of Oliver/harmes/petracca ....can only be mostly good for him to feel apart of that midfield. Lever there I think for the dual purpose of seeing the team and watching I think his brother Tyson no.7 for Coburg? Tyson seemed popular win the local Coburg supporters but wasn't overly impressive as an undersized left footed key back I thought.

  3. I said in the last see you later omac thread that after being dropped that perhaps he is struggling a bit with his mental health in part realted to tbe bagging he cops on social media (and dl is part of the social media landscape). And that perhaps with the bye the club might have given him a break to freshen up. Not picked at casey this week and not on the injury perhaps my concerns might have some validity So I find it quite weird that another se ya later thread has popped up about omac. With fans like us who needs opposition supporters? Also find it strange that on this very thread people are pointing out how well frosty is travelling. And that most (But not all thankfully) dont see the irony in this. Frost could not get s senior game until half way through last year. He was at casey working on what he needed to sort out.. He is at least a year older than omac. Surely frost is the perfect example of the folly of writing players off, as many posters did on dl and of the capacity of players to develop and improve.

  4. I note also that Jadyn Hunt and a Freo bloke got pinged for wrestling - I’m assuming that it was the one on the southern wing boundary line. Whilst Jadyn was clearly milking the “tangle” of legs, the Freo bloke unashamedly dropped the knees into Hunt’s head - right in front of the adjudicating clown. No mention of this any where in the MRP comments. No thought of a free kick reversal there! Just another example of the double standards.

  7. Another example of reading stats only one way. Despite our terrible bombs inside 50, I saw Weid make the contest and spill an easy Freo mark at least 5 or 6 times. Twice that I remember resulting in goals to us, including one to Lockard (double effort) and the Tmac sealer. Both Goody in his presser and Roos on TV made a point of emphasising his work rate. Did you and Range Rover miss this? I think Weid is tracking very well and could become the key forward to build a team around. The more games we get into him now, the quicker his development. Its boring seeing posters still bag him as a means of pushing their 'trade the farm for a kpf' agenda (not you).

  8. God there's some idiocy on this site. Young player, just came third in the Brownlow, well liked and respected - hey, let's get rid of him. Too many people with too much time on their hands and zero knowledge of football or the importance of culture and cohesion to football teams. The trade maniacs should stick to Monopoly, or read a book.

  10. Really disappointed in this bloke & good to see he got a week for headbutting. He used to be one of my favourite non MFC players because of his fearless attack on the ball & unselfish play. Saturday changed that - he was acting up for frees & milking it shamelessly. He was tackled legitimately but went down like he was shot & got paid a free for over the shoulder, later on he again got tackled fairly by Petty I think & milked it again & sucked the umpire in for another free. Spectators at the ground picked it up & he was then booed the next few times he went near the pill. Really poor umpiring.

  11. It’s a ripping pic - pun not intended! Never seen a player so gleeful while in a fracas! I reckon Jack’s close to the toughest player I’ve seen. Proper tough, not deck someone behind play, or grow a mullet and pinch your opponent until their arm gets a bruise tough. He’s at his best when he’s dealing and receiving hurt in equal measure. Just love it.

  13. Agree wholeherartedly. . For the doomsayers who have put him inthe the hopeless useless, never , his fault that we leak goals, his fault that we cannot kick goals etc. Let's put some comparisons out there : OMac 196 cm /1900 kgs 23 y.o Frosty (the inventor of "Frostball" . 194/93 A month off 26 y.o Weid : 195/97 ( also responsible for causing the Iceberg to drop into the Anntarctic sea and float up to hit the Titanic) 22 y.o Lever 195/91 23 y.o ( has been likened to JC !!) Common thread all these players have different abilities and levels of. But Weid is still considered as a WIP, Frosty after surviving numerous postings is now the flavour of the month, sorry week (a month is too long) They are all big kids , let them develop and assess their worth to the Club when their career is finished. In the meantime it is time to get off this blokes back !!!!! Enough is enough

  15. Maybe we should stake a claim on Victoria Park and seek to have that redeveloped as our base. Hopefully the Collingwood morons, sorry, members, would be up in arms and 'force' the Magpies to reclaim their home territory and leave the Olympic Boulevard properties for us.

  16. It was a gutless effort from Walters no doubt. Viney saw him a millisecond before the contact and did just enough to avoid being poleaxed whilst Walters flopped pathetically to the turf. He would only have the courage to 'go' Viney if Viney wasn't looking. Weak as water from Walters. A talented player but a flopper and an inept sniper.

  17. Last of Oscar? Why, because we don't need depth? Because if the last couple of years hasn't shown us enough that back up players will regularly get games and need to be developed? Many were calling for Frost's axing 12-18 months ago, before that it was Harmes, 2 months ago it was Weid. Omac isn't as good as May or Lever, but he can improve and is only 23. [censored] me, some people have short vision!

  18. Weideman is doing enough to stay in the side. 2 contested marks, a goal, an assist. More importantly he brought the ball to ground most times and did some good spoiling. Clearly not a great game, but as a young key fwd learning his craft this is typical. If his intensity or effort drop off then drop him. If we improve he will start kicks more goals

  19. KK played on one wing, JKH the other, they both had very slow starts barely sighted in the first quarter. JKH was the spark for the team in the 2nd quarter to get them going, he would've had double figure possessions in that quarter alone. After that he was only serviceable, same as KK was only just a game from him. Lewis was BOG by the mile of the straight, he worked tirelessly all day in and under packs and the outside with measured possessions. If he's not in for Wagner next week I'll be surprised. Speaking of Wagner his brother was also immense all day, our second best mid in terms of game impact even if the stats don't show it. Pruess was so dominant in the hitouts Coburg were just trying to read off his hands rather than their undersized under siege ruckman, around the grounds he was good but not great. It wasn't a day for big marks, conditions dictated that so he didn't dominate in the air as much. It was interesting that for the whole match we didn't have a single Melbourne listed player start in the back 6 after a goal, such are the injuries we've copped this year, so the defence never really filled you with confidence. Two Casey players both got felled behind the play today, one Coburg player at the very least #29 dropped Freeman in a cowardly act for which he was reported, plenty for the vfl tribunal to look at. Of the rest of the demons, Bedford, Spargo, Kielty and Chandler were very poor, Maynard was his usual industrious self in traffic and got better as the game went on, Dunkley was only ok and still haven't seen anything of note in Jordan. The biggest cheer of the day came from the 22 blokes sitting behind me in the grandstand who happened to play on the Mcg Saturday when bradtke attempted a huge pack mark, almost pulled it in, but instead grabbed the spillage and snapped it over his head for a goal, he's obviously a big favourite amongst the playing group. He's as raw as sushi, but the building blocks are there he looks a likely long term prospect. A bitterly cold day best forgotten, Casey did just enough against very poor opposition in trying conditions, they'll just be happy to take the 4 points and move on from this one.

  21. I’m with you blokes. Always a Frost supporter. However, the balls a bit like a hand grenade when he has it. He either gets rid of it successfully and destroys the enemy- or it blows up among his teammates Certain excitement either way!

  23. The Jones reversal is what is turning me off the game. You can charge someone (see Walters on Viney just as that melee started) while they’re not looking, yet you can’t do what Jones did. Even the remonstration that Jones copped from the Freo boys after that incident could’ve been reversed. If you’re going to pay one, then pay the next is all I’m saying. I’m sick of the umpires nitpicking what is paid a free and what is not.

  24. There was some contested footy in the centre square during the third where he crunched 1 Freo player bringing him to ground, tripped a second Freo player over with his head and then got up and brought a third player down with another crunching tackle. What amazed me in that skirmish at the end of the third was after decking Walters, he had three Freo players come at him and he didn't even raise his hands up to instinctively protect himself. He just kinda came at them and roared in full beast mode while they tried to rip his Guernsey off. You can see in the photo, his hands stayed down the whole time as if egging them on to throw one just to make him angrier. He's just brilliant to watch when the red haze comes over him.

  25. He was incredibly close GT.. if we had one more pick we would have selected Lockhart. He came back to Casey's day 1 of pre season in absolute elite condition to the point where it was now too good to refuse and he basically selected himself. Dont underestimate how incredibly hard Lockhart has worked over the past 18 months. He is the type of player you want around your footy club in terms of setting the standards on the training track but also culture wise because of how resilient he is.

  30. I got there at the 20 minute mark of the second quarter - I can't get used to the different starting times! Chandler was on the bench when I got there and didn't return. But I've seen him a bit and like him. I think he does have the speed and he's a very good kick. I'm not sure he'll make it but he won't die wondering. KK: Looked pretty good to me. Got the ball a fair bit and used it okay considering the conditions which made it hard for everyone. I think the FD see him as a starting 22 player in the long run and he'll return before many think. The FD clearly want to get continuity into the team and if that means sacrificing a little performance they will do that. And we have 4 in the team on Saturday who aren't locks. JKH: Was very good from what I saw. Clean, faster than most, found the ball, got in good places and kicked it well. I don't know how the FD see him. I thought the was not the worst in Darwin but didn't hold his spot. His form at Casey has been very good. DK: Not a big man's day. We all want him to succeed but he's struggling. Lewis was outstanding. Far to good for this level and a terrific mentor to the young kids. Good on him for doing it, credit where credit is due. It was an awful game in awful conditions against a stand alone team hell bent on knuckling a few of our blokes. You'd think the VFL would put a stop to it. Williamstown do the same. It's not tough footy, just thug footy. You'd hope we'd be past that.

  31. King, twice in a week. Whack on Pert re McCartney and now this. He can say he was right when we change leadership at years end...but the thought that that act cost him the captaincy is utter and out and out stupidity. King tipped us for the flag and feels made a fool of by the club I think, so hes getting his own back. [censored] him.

  33. Exactly right. But you are also wrong. Jason ventured down to Tassie on the back of receiving a list of names to go and watch closely. Lockhart was one of them. Taylor and Tim Lamb both went down and watched several games where Lockhart was the clear stand out on that list. What pricked our recruiters ears up was Lockharts BOG performance in the stage game against the NEAFL. Taylor and our recruitment team encouraged him to try his luck on a more high standard at VFL level. Before Tom Couch had signed at Casey Demons at the start of 2018 he pushed Lockharts case really hard to Jade Rawlings as well but also got huge endorsement from Jason Taylor as it was an opportunity to really keep an eye out on a weekly basis. Couch had played with and mentored Lockhart, especially from a fitness point of view. Couch really encouraged and pushed him to give VFL a real go. It was Jason Taylor and his team who first spotted Lockhart.

  34. Except for that fact Hogan is a hugely inefficient footballer who struggles at the MCG. Just as likely he would've dragged May to plenty of contests. Petty would've had a match up on Cox. And Freo would've had one less quick pressure player in the forward line. Those were the guys that hurt us all game. The vast majority of their goals came from our botched turnovers under pressure or creating free kicks with quick movement. We would've lost yesterday if Freo had their full complement of running players, so Hogan was a factor there, but there's plenty of evidence to doubt that he was going to have a big game taking marks or kicking goals on May. A typical Hogan game with a few nice marks up the ground but a lot of poor contests inside 50 and bad kicking was most likely. Weideman wasn't poor. He did his job. Created a goal going back with the flight. Kept away from McDonald and Smith. He has to get better but unless we land a big name key forward dropping him after a game like yesterday would be coaching stupidity. Shuffling him out for a player of similar talent on the basis of earning games would stunt his development. He more than earnt his game yesterday if you watched him play rather than the stat sheet.

  38. I reckon they will drop Hannan. 7 disposals and 0 tackles as a half forward is not a good look. Wagner or JKH comes in for him. Hannan needs to go back and get his hands on the ball and start providing that manic tackling pressure he is known for.

  39. I never bought in to the hysteria surrounding May's poor arrival at the club, as disappointing as it has been. His attributes are obvious and he's just served up an entree of humble pie for some that were having near meltdowns about how poor of a decision his recruitment was. The main course and dessert are only around the corner.

  42. We need to give young players a chance to get games under their belt. This season is finished. We cannot make the finals so let’s at least give guys like Weids, Petty, Baker and Petty as much game time as possible. I know Hibbo and Lever can play. They’ll still be good players if they have another week or two off to fully recover.

  44. U are dead right! He is a genuine forward. As soon as he gets it he thinks " goal". Others such as ANB do not, they instinctively think " who will I give it to" Baker disappointed me once yesterday, had the ball 40m out, slight angle, I was screaming at him to kick it, but he tried an impossible pass. Team play is to be commended but if the chance presents itself---/

  45. Don't understand threads like this one and the ANB one. We have more than 40+ players on our list and I don't see us using the same 22 every week for a whole season. Depth and development have been the things we've bemoaned so much about our club but then as soon as a bloke is out of the 'best 22' people are wanting them delisted and the like. Oscar might develop into a great spoiling backman and help us succeed, or he may just steady the ship when needed as a backup player (and help us succeed), and his contract status and opportunity will be determined by how he performs within that framework. It's not a matter of either 'he'll be a star' or 'he'll be delisted', there's so much space in between those things. Out of all the years for people to struggle with the concept of depth, who would have thought it would be this year.
