  3. He was a superstar and his football ability might be underrated by the wider footy community. Only two Demons have made three or more All Australian teams - Lyon and Ron Barassi (3 each). Stynes, Neitz and Flower made two each. He won two best and fairests, kicked 426 goals despite playing all over the ground before settling forward. He was named in the MFC team of the century and has a very handy 56% win record in 226 games, with 7 seasons as captain.. How often would he be thrown into the middle at 3 quarter time when were in trouble, and turn the game around? Great player and leader.

  4. Was there that day with a bunch of mates and its became a very memorable day for the rest of my life. We celebrated big time after the game and found our way back to a Heildeberg pub. I got enough courage up around midnight to kiss a girl I’d been keen on for some time. We ended up getting married, have had 2 fantastic kids and are still together today. Have to thank the MFC and G Lyon for their helping hand in setting up my life.

  8. I find it interesting that people still defer to the "big" clubs when looking at things like this. No disrespect intended, but why would it be a big deal if Collingwood and Geelong were also into Bradtke? With the way our recruiters have gone recently, it should be the other way around now. We are as good or better than anyone at spotting talent. His dad was a big big man, so I can see the young version filling out quite nicely, although Max has shown that if you have the height and talent, a beanpole ruckman can dominate at the highest level. Shows that developing a list is a 365 day a year job. It just never stops. Well done Dees, and welcome Austin. Hope you make the grade.

  9. Impeccable sources told me T Mac was absolutely focused on the correct rehab this year. He would call relevant staff every day in some cases to get their sign off for something he may have been thinking of doing, foot conditions status etc. Thus his comeback has been first rate (as opposed to how jack sought to come back early) This is another good example IMO of TMac simply being professional, sensing a concern and having it checked out.

  12. Tom Mcdonald trained for half the time. He then did a lap of the oval probably as a test, then finished. Christian Petracca a little sore the end of training (a knock during boundary throw ins) Also did a lap to test, appeared to be moving well. The Casey players finished 25 minutes early. Those who stayed on the field and pushing for selection included Cam Pederson, Joel Smith, Harley Balic, Lachlan Filopovic, Jayden Hunt and I think Dom Tyson. Rehab group was Sam Wiedeman (who was moving well) and Dean kent. I thought Oscar Baker was training very well. Jeff Garlett, Tom Bugg and Sam Frost looking good. There.was plenty of talk and support for each other in the training. They appear to be working well as a group. Plenty of smiling and general enjoyment in tbe squad. The 7 on 7 match simulation was done with very little space. They did fast spreads and were strong at the contest. Jake Melksham was a ball magnet. Jack Viney running hard and getting to many contest. Bernie Vince the play maker, as was Jordan Lewis. Jake Lever vocal and reading the ball, taking marks and working hard when the ball hit the ground. The 3/4 field simulations saw the ball moving quickly through the corridors. James Harmes taking some beautiful high marks. Neville Jetta shrugging tackles and creating plenty of time for himself. He is very encouraging of Dion Johnstone who is looking very composed and powerful. Simon Goodwin very active, plenty of instructions and encouragement. During the goal kicking drills plenty of talk and feedback was given by the assistant coaches.

  14. Seriously, if we drop our bundle and cop a heavy defeat to Adelaide on the back of one player out of our best 22 missing, we're not the team I was hoping we'd become this year. Yes, Tom's been in excellent form, but surely we can cover him for hopefully just the one game. If Pedo produces 70% of what T Mac could and everyone else continues their great form, we're still a good chance on Sunday.

  17. Really good long term thinking by the club. As we play through Max’s career peak, we will have a superiority over nearly all teams onball through Max’s silver service, but That can’t last forever. What better than to recruit a giant, very athletic individual with great sporting pedigree to be taught by the best over an extended period, and we all know how long it takes for big men to develop. I suspect given Austin’s size, his athletic pedigree and his learning under Max’s guidance, he may well come along a bit quicker than we expect. The great part about it is we have plenty of time to get it right. What a great prospect!

  25. If we lose this game the media will be so quick in pulling out the branding iron and stamping us as downhill skiers, flat track bullies etc. I don’t want that to happen. I think this will be another percentage boosting game for us. Dee’s by 59 points.

  27. His old man was on SEN this morning, from the sounds of it just about every club inquired, and they narrowed it down to 4. He then talked up the development system and coaches as the reason they chose the Dees. He named Egan, Rooke and Rawlings (maybe a couple of others) which I think is a massive tick for our development team. He also said learning from Gawn was a big factor too. One of the best things he said was that Austin is best mates with the King boys at school, their both potentially going to go top 5 in the draft (in most early phantom drafts) and both are talls. So even though he's not allowed to play footy for the next 6 months (to get to the 3 year out rule), he'd be having a kick at school with some of the most talented kids. Hopefully he'll be coming in only marginally behind those who've gone through the elite pathway, but I still wouldn't expect that we'd see him in the seniors until at least 2021/22.

  29. Also, on the broad subject of incestualism (Collingwood supporters), I had separate boyhood crushes on both mother and father growing up as a sporting lad in the 80s. Makes for supporting Austin now a little bit awkward - although I certainly wouldn't have chosen the name Austin for our fantasy spawn back then. Phileas Provis perhaps, or maybe Bradbury Bradkte (hint: I also liked fantasy sci-fi as a kid).

  30. It's an interesting point BBP, as now that we've found a structure that works, we should be able to cover him well enough that we still win the game we should be winning. Pedersen isn't a world beater, but he has the tank to get himself up the ground and have stints in the ruck. Same goes for both Hogan and Tim Smith - they have the capacity to play Tom's role and therefore we keep the structure of the side intact. Obviously, Tom is in ripping form and we're not the same side without him, but I believe that now we have a good structure in place that we can push on in a positive direction if we don't have him in the side.

  32. My research shows that Austin Bradtke's last official game was in a losing side with East Sandringham against Mordialloc Braeside in a South Metro Junior Football League Under 14's grand final in August 2014. The King twins from Haileybury College. Bradtke wore the number 25. Other teammates in that side with interesting names were Samuel Stynes and Darcy Tilbrook. I can't figure out how a team with those names lost the game.

  36. My wish for this game is, if Lever gets manhandled, for his MFC team mates to come barrelling in and ante up. Jones to come in with some rolled gold champagne jumper punching. Maybe a cheeky nipple tweak for good measure.

  38. Hes good enough, but he hasn't played an AFL game since 2016, we are loaded with big bodied mids/forwards and the team is hard to break into and will hopefully be even harder to get into as the season progresses. Reckon he and the supporters would be happy enough if he came back injury free and was able to play the season out at Casey and attack a full preseason for once. He deserves a fair run at it.

  41. I really like this signing. Coming from a professional sporting background is a huge advantage in terms of commitment and preparation. Should be able to take to the AFL system like a duck to water. If he has the goods he could be big max's replacement.
