Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Agree but I doubt we have the currency for pick 1.

How do we compare with the Hawks now ?

I don’t think we make this trade unless we have something else already in the pipeline.

Either we are trying to get pick 1, or we have a big name trade that we need to acquire top 10 picks for.

It's part of a bigger plan.  I'd say Petty is going.  They are going hard for pick 1.  10 from Adelaide and McAdam for Petty, gives us 6, 10 and 11 to work into pick 1.

That’s way over for Pick 1… way overs. Hold onto Petty and give WC 6,11 and F1. Norf cannot beat that unless they give up both 2 and 3.

Silly move, 1300 points for 2300 points.  Crazy.

Points are just convenient way to look at pick value. Picks 7 and 8 are together worth the same points as Pick 1, but you wouldn't trade Picks 7 and 8 if the player at pick 1 was Christian Petracca.

WC and Melbourne have been talking for a while.  They'll have told Lamb exactly what they want.  All the Petty talk is for a reason.  It's not in WC interests to work with North right now.

Don't like to get too wrapped up in points value, however we have given up 1000 points to rise from 14 to 11 while crows only gave up 400 odd points to go from 23 to 14. And they got a player.

Edit: end of the day we had to pay a premium for a prized selection that had competition. I'll back the club on this.

100% this.

You don't play footy with picks, you play it with players. Whilst it's tough to think about during trade week, each draft pick is a player and some are worth more than others. If we think that the first 3 players will be Hodge, Ball and Judd, whilst the next 3 are Polak, X Clarke and Sampi, then you'd be tempted to trade picks 4 and 5 for pick 3.

It just depends how we rate the players and where we think those big drop offs occur.

You just can't know what's really going on here so it's impossible to judge. Recruiters might believe there's a big gulf in talent between player 11 and 12 in the draft. Impossible to really know the value of the draft picks without knowing what the recruiting team are thinking.

I'd implore everyone to go back through the past 3 drafts, take away academy kids, and assess the performance of every player taken between picks 25-35.

Those picks are worth almost nothing to us - this deal is fine even if we sit on 6 and 11.

Whats the chances this creates a favourable McAddam deal in the future, considering how well they've benefited from this one.

I agree.

Otherwise, As it sits right now, how do we pay for McAddam and Fullarton with only P41 ?

It is a gulf between 11 and 14 so I’m not too mad in that sense - does seem a lot to give, but they have plans.

glad that we are holding firm on Grundy and if we end up with 6 and 11 that’s still a good hand.

This is true, but the different ranking of players by clubs means that the benefit of moving up from #14 to #11 is less certain. We might have sold two second round picks to get the same player at #11 as we would have at #14.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
